Fun Fact: In the 1880's, a woman was stabbed by her deranged husband in a park, her corset deflected the blow, and a passer-by bonked him on the head with her umbrella. IDK what happened after that, but both women lived. And, although its roughly 20 years pre-suffragette, i believe its implied (from the post boxes), that the mother goes on to start/help the suffrage movement, which would explain why her arc isn't fully complete, yet. It can't be, for there are about 40 years between now and women getting the vote (1918).

@@PinkPopcast Women and men didn't actually have equal suffrage in the UK until 1928, (the legislation in 1918 let all men 21+ vote, even the poor ones😱, but only some women 30+). Women didn't get the vote until 1920 in the US, (though that mostly only really meant suffrage for white women for quite a while of course). On the subject of, didn't her mum teach her to ride a bike - I'm pretty sure it's really early for a woman to be riding a bike at all at the time this is set. What women were expected to wear wasn't really conducive to bike riding after all, and you have to ride a bike astride (shock, horror). Bicycling outfits were designed with things like divided skirts and less constricting corsets , all in line with the rational dress movement. Women cycling was pretty radical in the late 1800s, which I imagine means Enola's mother would be all for it, but also she wouldn't have been in a position to teach Enola how as a child.

Uh… that would be the case if women started the movement and suddenly men were like “oh shit you’re right! My bad! WOMEN CAN VOTE NOW!” No, it took about 72 years from 1848 to 1920 in the US, England it was 1928 and other countries different times like Saudi Arabia being the latest in 2015 and in some they still don’t have it (like Vatican City, and yes 5.5% are women) or other places where they legally can but women are still considered as existing for men only so there’s violence and the husbands decide and can leave them if they do so women are “strongly discouraged”, to put it that way (like Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Zanzibar)…

@@PinkPopcast 1920 in the US, later in most places (and a few earlier) and the latest so far is Saudi Arabia in 2015 but in some countries they still legally can’t and others they still technically can’t if they want to stay married or not have to endure violence for it…
