The VAT was raised by FG from 21% to 23% because we were in recession and needed to pay back our secured loans and unsecured loans (thank Enda Kenny for that one). We are long out of recession and still the VAT is 23%. In 2011 we owed 100 billion. After 13 years of FG and recently FG/FF we owe 235 billion. We should be paying off that debt before the next recession.
