In my opinion, Enphase has the best support. They were able to remote into my system and fixed an issue with a couple of inverters that went offline. My installer said they would be able to monitor my system but they failed to respond to my issue, or reply to my email; but within a few hours Enphase support replied and addressed my issue within a couple of hours. So glad my original quoted system was replaced with Enphase. Just wish I had the IQ8 instead of IQ7. The battery has been the best too when the grid is offline.

Fireman- Joe, I sure appreciate the “how” in the way you educate. I have an Enphase 10T installed at my house and it works great except for one thing -- the communications between the components. The zigbee wireless modules constantly lose connection, even with an installed extender. I heard the next generation 10 battery will replace the zigbee modules with a hardwire solution. Definitely something to consider if you are planning to install an Enphase storage system this year (i.e., I would wait for the next gen hardware for the better comms).

Great presentation, thank you. I suspect there is a defect in the microphone XLR female connector because there was some buzz at times, including when you grabbed the mike and held the connector and maybe stressed it. There might be a cold solder joint on one of the pins.

Joe, one question I have had for a while, which I may have missed this at some point. If there are micro inverters at the battery, do you also need micro inverters at each roof mounted panel? Thank you for all the informative videos, they have been very helpful.

Hi Thomas and thanks for writing in. The answer is Yes. The micro-inverters internal to the battery handle power conversion for the battery only. The solar panels also need power conversion (DC-to-AC) at the panel level.

Is this an older video re-uploaded?The Enphase 10T (3x 3T) is being discontinued. The new batteries are the 5P with Iq8D inverters, System Controller 3 and Combiner 5/5C... These new 5P Batteries have wired communication integration to the other components so they will not loose connection like the previous generation batteries, combiners and system controllers....

@@ChuckD59 I apologize for your concern, you will be in good shape with the Encharge 10T, it is a great Battery and Dealers and EPC's still have Inventory to offer and install. Once that Inventory is depleted and Enphase can get the New IQ5P's into the field, they will no longer offer the 10T. Probably by the end of the Year.

@@GrinDiesel1969 Thanks for that reply. I worked hard to find an installer to work with, wanted Enphase (18kw array) and a system that'll be viable at least ten years from now. Not just covered by warranty but compatible with upgrades too. If I can be assured of a smooth path forward that doesn't involve having to gut or trash a system just for some component upgrades, I'll feel better about this. So do we know if the 5P is compatible side-by-side with a 10T? I expect my first upgrade will be increased storage.

@@ChuckD59Oh man I apologize for putting doubt in your Enphase System. Enphase has always been great about their Systems being modular amd backwards compatible. The new IQ5P Battery communicates to the System Controller and Combiner with a wired Interconnection. The 10T uses a wireless zigbee communication to these other components. In my opinion Enphase should have a solution to retrofit IQ5P batteries to a 10T Battery system, but I am not educated enough on that yet. We are dealing with Different, kWh, and peak power. The 10T is 10.08kWh energy storage capacity, 3.84 kW continuous AC power, -Surge capability of 5.76 kW AC for 10 seconds The 5P is 5kWh energy storage capacity, 3.84 kW continuous AC power, -Surge capability of 7.68 kW AC for 3 seconds. The 10T will back up more circuits for longer, the 5P can handle more peak loads at one time. You would have to install 2 5Ps to have the same runtime backup as your 10T. 1 10T will not start and run a traditional A/C compressor and definitely not without a soft start attached to the compressor. 2 5Ps would definitely have enough peak power to have the A/C compressor start... I hope this info helps my friend. You will be happy with the 10T, that is all I have sold the past couple of years...

I get that with one 10T those aren't an option, was never promised that. But down the road I may be limited to scavenging around for what will then be relics if I want to augment this system.

Daisy chain is not a parallel connection 14:08; it is in series connection, therefore this is not a redundant connection 16:08, as presented. If there is a single connection failure all components downstream are lost. I heard the phrase bidirectional. When do we see a bidirectional EV charger from enphase. If I have a 50 plus Kilowatt EV, I’d much rather make that my storage. I did not hear anything about connecting to a generator. I’ve heard that a generator (I have a natural gas generator), can be used to charge storage batteries and that redundancy in a solar storage/power home system is very desirable.

The 5P is actually has more power per unit of storage kWh. You would need 3x of the 10T battery to start a standard A/C using battery only.

When trying to ensure you have enough power to start your AC, the most important number is the AC’s locked rotor amps (LRA) rating. You need to verify the surge rating of the ESS can cover this demand and it’s duration, on top of all your other protected loads.
