A special shout out goes to our friend Dmitry Bortnikoff, whose Vetiver Nocturne is featured alongside more mainstream perfumes to explore the different ways 'The Oil of Tranquility' gets used in perfumery.

Ensar: So I want to go from that to one of my favorite types of vetiver. And this is what we call 'Bourbon Vetiver'. Bourbon means what?
Ehab: I don't know.
Ensar: Bourbon means that something comes from Reunion Island and Madagascar. It's like you know interchangeable.
Ehab: This is very exotic I'm telling you.
Ensar: Can you imagine like Reunion Island…it's like how far away that is?
Ehab: So exotic.
Ensar: And how old this oil…it's been aging for like 14 years. Vetiver is one of the oils that like oud becomes better and better and better as you age it, so fresh vetiver is never going to be the same as really old vetiver. So here we go…(Ensar swipes Ehab with vetiver) This is the Reunion Island…
Ehab: The Reunion…I can see why you like this.
Ensar: This is…wow! This is…to me this is like the Kinam of vetiver.
Ehab: Yeah, now this has the more subtle grassy, not rooty…
Ensar: To me, personally, I wouldn't say this is grassy at all. This is like orange. Like almost like bergamot. Like yuzu, yuzu is like the Japanese citrus.
Ehab: Oh, is it?
Ensar: Yeah.
Ehab: I haven't smelled that before so.
Ensar: You can smell it right now. You can get the yuzu. We have two yuzu bottles in that fridge and I'll show you directly.

Vetiver is hands down my most favourite perfume compound. For Indian summer, nothing beats the good 'ol Ruh Khus. Thanks for this video.

Never stop these conversations. Sometimes I feel I'm alone with this obsession for Oud. Thank you both for letting us be part of these discussions. I just tried Czar Ceylon. I love the hint that it possess that reminds me of Midori Qi. Keep up the awesome work and keep sharing ..

my favorite channel in the world. I wish Ensar would make a raffle for those of us who buy his products, so one of us can win a visit to meet him and discuss things on the program. Oh man that would be a dream come true!

14:28 I think oud is the complete opposite, it grows on you big time! First time I smelled oud I was off put by the smell, but now I love oud and it's my favorite perfume. The smell changes in your nose after a while. Also lately a fascinating thing happened to me. I bought this vietnamese oud that smells extremely wild and funky, most funky Ive ever smelled, and it generally is not recommended to be used on its own. First I was off put by the strong smell, but after smelling it a little bit every day for a week, now the scent has changed permanently for me. Its like my nose adjusted and now I percieve the scent completely different than before!

MashaAllah brother Ensar... a Very beautiful discription of Vetiver and so much educational. I would personally wont prefer vetiver as a single component or a linear fragrance - should have all the transitional vibes with different notes and then settled to vetiver... The magic is all yours. GoodLuck

To be completely honest, I haven't found yet a perfume from Frederic Malle that I can really enjoy or one that seems special and I do agree that some if not most of them seem cheap. This is purely a subjective opinion ofc. Being regulated by IFRA means using more and more chemicals rather than naturals and using reconstructions of the natural which in many cases are miles away from the true scent. One example of this is Tuberose 184108 from Firmenich which has nothing to do with the natural.

Salam alaykum brothers. Mashallah, a pleasure to see you again. I really like my monsieur oud sample; unfortunately I find that it does not last as long as others, such as oud extraordinaire. I would say the best vetiver perfume I have smelled is Sultan Vetiver by Nishane.

And may Peace be upon you! You can try wearing it on the inside of the collar of your shirt, as the oils are released at a slower rate when on cloth. Also if applied to the pulse points on the neck likely you'll experience it longer than if applied to the wrists. In addition to that, I found even after Monsieur Oud became a 'skin scent' when I went for a walk, and later exercised in the evening, its aroma came back in a powerful way, very robust exhibiting the full profile of its drydown. It was like walking through a tropical garden, frangipanis in full bloom just after the rain! Quite an experience =)

Just picking up from the discussion on synthetics in perfume later on in the video @Ensar Oud , have you tried Caron Poivre? It's become almost discontinued due to the controversy around some of its ingredients, but I would assume that like Vetiver, Clove - which is Caron Poivre's main note - is so cheap that there's no reason to use synthetics. Of the main French perfume houses (Chanel, Guerlain and Caron ) Caron took a very different path and used bold, raw, natural notes such as carnation and clove. What do you think of Caron Poivre, an iconic scent.... Would love to hear your thoughts
