I love that there's no structural integrity mechanic like Valheim, this game's far more forgiving, flexible, AND it looks fantastic. Great tutorial, great build.👍
@alganhar1 Жыл бұрын
I both agree and disagree. As it currently stands Enshrouded gives more material options for building than Valheim, and those are just the ones I have seen so far with only about 20 hours in game. The lack of integrity is not so much an issue with me, its nice its not there, but I am used to dealing with building integrity, so really it does not bother me. I also like the single block option, which can be used for fine tuning especially in detailing a build. The single block roof tiles for example can be used to make some really nice wall, window, door and pillar detailing. However, there ARE some areas where Valheim in its current state is far superior building wise. Even unmodded you have better than 90 degree rotation for building blocks, which you do NOT have in Enshrouded. Furniture can be rotated in 10 degree increments, building blocks cannot. At least not currently. As such, no rounded structures, which is a shame as I LIKE rounded, more organic structures, and they are something you can do in Valheim especially if you are using the Gizmo mod, but even without it can be approximated. Another issue is snap points, snap points can be really, really finicky in Enshrouded, frustratingly so at times. Materials wise its less grindy though, another point in Enshrouded's favour, at least for the more common materials I am limited to at the moment. That being said Valheim had some of the same issues initially, especially when it came to finicky snap points! The really major downside with Enshrouded though is that very limited rotation option. That is ALMOST, not quite, but almost a game breaker for me personally....
@TheREALDocRabbit Жыл бұрын
structural integrity was a requirement due to the base attack mechanic in Valheim, same goes for 7 Days. This game is more exploration with no base defense requirement, so it doesn't need structural integrity. If you just page thru the various games that have/don't have it, you will find it coincides with base attacks.
@JohnPero-s6s Жыл бұрын
@@alganhar1 Don't get me wrong, I love Valheim, but for folks like me who don't have the design skills of the master builders, Enshrouded doesn't punish mistakes with total collapse. I too wish that there was better rotation on blocks, I'm a big fan of rounded structures like towers and turrets found in Victorian Gothic and Medieval architecture. I also prefer the terrain options in Enshrouded, the ability to create underground lairs and tunnels fulfills my fantasy of living in a home with secret passages, like Wayne Mannor with the Batcave. One other thing I wish for is a free floating camera or "godmode" for building, so I don't have to d!ck around with scaffolding. ...Ugh, what a pain in the A5S.
@JohnPero-s6s Жыл бұрын
@@TheREALDocRabbit I don't disagree with you one bit, but as a 56 year old gamer, my combat reflexes and patients are less than they used to be. That's why I turn off raids in Valheim. I like my home to be my sanctuary. Also, spiked walls and fences are less aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion.

Very cool build. Will definitely be using this for inspo on my first build. Just as a side note. If you build a half height wall on your top floor and then attach the roof to that; it makes the top floor a bit more spacious inside and allows you to have overhang on the roof (so they don't end at the wall). You can then go out with the roof on each side of the house by half and this will create a really nice 3D look for the cabin. I learnt this in Valheim.😎

Love the little cabin! I am not crazy about the rough wood's look, but the way you surrounded it with the stone pillars really did a lot to improve the appearance. The roof looked very tricky with trying to place the pieces without snapping them. Would it be possible to do something similar with snapping pieces, then adding or trimming as needed to get the effect? As to the the walls in the rear of the house not naturally forming the arch, I am wondering if this is a bug the developer's need to be aware of. It seems rather odd that doing literally the same thing has a different result, which is what makes me wonder if this is something that is not intended. I'm really looking forward to extended release. I actually am hoping to pre-order, if I can. I can hardly wait to be able to try my hand at building in this game, and watching your two videos (this one and the Hobbit Hole) as well as other building videos is giving me ideas. In the meantime, I've started playing Portal Knights, which Enshrouded's voxel system is based off of.

Thanks for the Vid! The Roof is very easy in this game compared to Valheim. With Val you had to worry about the roof caving in on your due to the weight and having to shore it was a nightmare. This looks super simple especially that the roof snaps together and provides the beams once they snap. Not that way in Val. But the thing this game has is the combat which is so much better than Val and the Skill trees which Val did not have. Also the graphics are awesome compared to Val. The amount of resin needed for torches seems off. Like, I'm farming tons of trees and would, just to get a few resin drops. Also, the time limit caught me off guard, I only noticed it when I had 2 hours left. I spent all my time grinding wood rock and building, I didn't even explore. Kinda meh.

True! Definitely a lot of resin needed! Also I'm guessing you realize you can create another world and explore for 8 more hrs? only 8 hrs time limit per world

I wonder he can build it for me than I can just import it into my game 😀👍

😄 Glad you enjoyed the build! Maybe someday they'll make blueprints to share!

My cornerstones ( above the windows ) are edgy and not angled. What am i doing wrong? Edit: You said it right after. "Just for some reason". Well sadly its my back working and not my front xD

Building is much better than in Valheim.

this game would be perfect with a first person mode imo. i think they should add it in

Thank you for this great tutorial! Everything was fine and dandy until I got to the roof - this is by far the WORST roofing I've ever dealt with in a building game. I've been spoiled by Valheim, I guess! Hope they tighten that up a bit on release because yikes!
@Chiselchip Жыл бұрын
Glad the tutorial was helpful! Yah the roofs are finicky for sure! I think the "Q" button doesn't really do what is was supposed to with the snapping, but we'll see if it gets better!

Roofing is not the biggest problem, it's deleting roof parts brick by brick. I always aim wrong and delete what should have stayed. Been pressing 'y' a lot.

It would take me less then 40 minutes to build a house like that

The game is driving me absolutely nuts by making the "Inverted Stepped Wall" sometimes into smoothed arcways and then doesn't on the other side, no matter what you do. It's always one L-Formed half of the house into smoothed edges and the other L-Formed half into non smoothed. God damn.
@Chiselchip Жыл бұрын
Yah I spoke to the devs about that! They are trying to find the reasoning for that, but yah it's weird that it only happens sometimes and not others depending on the direction
@DrPlonk Жыл бұрын
@@Chiselchip I actually found why! It depends on the placement of the foundation. If you move the pillars into either direction by 1 block it works as you'd want it. If you don't, and you put a foundation down without looking if it arcs where you'd want it to, every additionally snapped foundation will also not work. You can see it when putting a 2x2 Pillar down and putting blocks right around it. It seems to only smooth on every 2nd grid-block of the map in one direction.
