Great video! Some months ago I bought an Ensoniq EPS-16 Plus, and have been maxing it out, I installed the memory expansion in it, and this video made me order an Ensoniq SP-2 and a ZuluSCSI, it appears to be faster than the Gotek I installed in it. Thank you for showing us this!

LoL that demo song "Gift Of Gab" is the reason I bought an ASR-10. Was at Sam Ash back in the day and the rep showed me that song and I was like yeep, give me this. It was between an MPC, SP1200 and ASR-10 my choices that day.

This is helpful. I'm getting a ZuluSCSI drive for my ASR-X Pro and was hoping to see improved read/write speeds as the USB Floppy emulator is god awful. It's taking over 15 minutes and 10 user prompts (button presses) just to save a simple song. The SCSI with SD cards is light-speed indeed!

Yeah, if you have SCSI interface, SD is the way to go. Gotek USB drives are slow.

I don't mess with this stuff much anymore. But you should be able to get it working with a 16 plus if it has scsi installed. The hard part is getting the libraries to work. You almost have to be a software developer to get Ensoniq libraries to work properly.

Hey Hank! Question, have you ever had to resolve a "KBD Failed" Calibration issue with your ASR-10? If so, how did you resolve?
@HankCoffey Жыл бұрын
If you are lucky, maybe a ribbon cable connection is bad, or unplugged. There are 2 keybed circuitboards. With a connector connecting the 2. It is usually a bad connection there. Some people bypass the connector with solder. There are adjustment pots on the keybed boards, if those somehow go out of adjustment, it will cause the error also. There are coiled circuitboard traces under each key. If any of those circuit traces are broken, it will cause the error also.

How did you format the SD card so it can boot? And do you run the scsi all the way to the back? Or you undo the scsi and have it housed in the case? I have one of those 2gb brick he that connects to the scsi and this looks way better and easier
@HankCoffey Жыл бұрын
I think I made one of the drive IDs bootable using Chicken Systems Translator. Samplerzone sells a cable kit that connects to the drive internally. And runs to the back jack. The scsi bus on Ensoniq isn't powered. So I used the floppy's power connection.
