This is one of the biggest seal bulls we’ve encountered at the harbour. This seal accurately indicates how strong these animals are and what we’re up against sometimes. Fortunately, the seal calmed down and allowed us to finish our work, or else we wouldn’t have rescued him as quickly as we did. Although this seal was BIG, it had no chance of survival with a packing strap around its neck.

That was a tough one, guys, such a strong seal bull, dragging you along!! Thank goodness he calmed down a bit to let you cut off another one of these horrible packaging tapes. Well done, guys, that was a great rescue, you probably needed a bit of a rest after that one! 👍👍

I HATE those horrible packaging tapes ! I work at a school as a custodian and we get paper shipped in boxes that have these bright yellow horrible packaging tapes to keep the boxes closed . I ALWAYS cut those tapes into little strips and then put them in the recycling bin. It's so EASY ! Just cut up any plastic strips or cordage into small pieces before throwing them in the dust bin ( or recycle bin if this service is offered) . We ALL must do better because regardless of how careful We are, We still aren't careful enough.

@@MichaelTheoret I cut up anything that makes, or can make, a ⭕ circle. Shopping bags, including the handles, chip packages, those inflated package box fillers, plastic bottles that aren't recyclable, even the plastic linings of Kleenex boxes. I saw a short about how a small fish was trapped in the finger of a disposable glove ! I absolutely go overboard, (it's the only thing I'm OCD about) but to me, I just can't take a chance of hurting any animal. It's pretty pitiful though🥴😱

That was an excellent demonstration of the negative effect of a packing strap. The bull seal was exerting maximum effort in an attempt to escape, but quickly became too exhausted to continue. Thanks to OCN, he will continue to make contributions to the seal gene pool. Great video at my favorite location.

The relative size of our hands on that bull really put perspective on how ginormous he was! We are unfortunately only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. The goal of these videos is to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.
