I'm glad they didn't shy away from Jacob's death. Nobody wants to see a man get lynched but it's an important bit of reality amongst all this high visual fantasy. Real life, especially when bigots are involved, rarely works out favorably, and Jacob's story is not confined to fiction. Then of course we get the best fight in the entire show immediately after. From Ah Sahm to John Wick, never mess with a man when he starts chuckin'.

Unfortunately...stuff like the Chinatown riot in this episode actually happened in US history. In 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act passed which led to suspending Chinese immigration for 10 years (this law would later get buffed and made stronger later in history). It eventually supercharged the anti-Chinese sentiments among people believing Chinese workers were "taking jobs away" and soon after a "driving out" period occurred across the west coast. This led to events like the Rock Springs Massacre in 1885, the Hells Canyon Massacre in 1887, riots in the cities of Tacoma (1885) and Seattle (1886) in Washington state, and more. The events I mentioned took place around the same time period this show is set in. And while this show/episode takes place in a fictionalized version of San Francisco, the actual city of San Francisco had a riot/pogrom occur too back in 1877 that lasted for three days. So while this show is work of fiction, it actually reflects a reality that actually occurred at one point in US history.

For anyone who doesnt know "Enter the Dragon" was one of Bruce Lee's most famous movies and he used a lot of nunchucks in that movie. Also the original concept for this series was written by Bruce Lee and his daughter took it and made the show. And she based Ah Sahm's personality and fighting style on her father.

I watched your reaction and yeah, this was a hard one to watch. I felt sick to my stomach too about this and seeing the portrayal of what one of my own community members went thru. And knowing this was based on real historical events that happened, where the Chinese were literally driven out of their homes and towns by racist mob violence. They don't teach this history in the schools, about how the Chinese and Native Americans were also lynched in the American west. I have always sympathized and empathized with what the black community has been thru, and continues to suffer thru, but it seems like this episode made me feel what your community has felt for a long, long time (too damn long). The day will come where we realize that we are all brothers and sisters. As brother Bruce said, "Under the skies, under the heavens, there is but one family. It just so happens that people are different."
