As Vox Machina completes their journey across the Ozmit Sea, Tiberius and Scanlan engage in a strange math workshop until Kima arrives and prepares the group for the culture shock awaiting them in Othanzia's capital city of Vasselheim. The airship touches down, and a representative from the Platinum Sanctuary escorts them, and the payload, through the chilled streets to the head of their order... High Bearer Vord himself.
The task is laid before them: Enter the Hall of the Exalt, an ancient vault below the Sanctuary, exterminate the invading vermin, seal away the Reliquary containing the dreaded Horn of Orcus, and return safely. Easier said than done, as some of the Hall's defenses are active, and the party is forced to traverse a number of deadly traps in hopes of being rid of the evil artifact once and for all!
Destiny finds a member of Vox Machina, and they must say goodbye to one of their own for a time.

Orion wanted a guitar solo every minute of every session. Even wanted to force himself into a leadership role, constantly fudge his rolls and give himself SP that he depleted in previous sessions, and threw hissy fits when shit didn't go his way. Even before I read about his departure from CR, I knew his days were numbered. That narcissistic shit just doesn't work in a group setting like theirs. It's a game. It's supposed to be fun. Orion seemingly forgot that aspect because he was just trying too hard to be the "star"

I dont see it as him "trying to be the star" its just him playing his character and doing what he thinks is right. I actually think Matt should of made them both roll in the beginning cause they both told him what they wanted to do. In that moment it wasn't him trying to be a star, it was more of working together to accomplish something "nearly impossible". No ones mad at Sam for giving inspiration.

@@TitoMcFadden Also how would you know he fudges with his rolls? They don't show what he rolls and most of the time you can see everyone around him watching his rolls. With his SP, we don't even know how much he has or if off camera he does something to refill them. Or even if he just forgets in-between sessions, they are playing a week after each session. That's such an insignificant thing to care about.

I think you're reading a bit too much into things? Nobody was worried or anything, she made the comment purely in-character, and Talisen responds not even that harshly, almost jokingly in character "I don't wanna talk about it," because he doesn't really know what's going on, and it was a joke. And they both are already smiling as he goes to talk about something, I don't think he's even explaining himself, the hand gesture seems unrelated so it could be anything, and she finds it humorous. I also don't think that was a "you're good" in that he was asking if something was ok, it seemed more like a "hey nice," or "I gotcha." Given that this is literally the first time he actually gets seated in at the table from the past 30 minutes of prior runtime, it seems like he was just talking about something completely unrelated about whatever he was doing before getting settled with the group... Looks more like he made sure food got delivered for the group, and then got settled in, and he briefly explained something related to that. Cause she seemed appreciative more than concerned with anything.

That is one of those subtle meta-gaming things players tend to do. Marisha, even if it is unintentional, really nails the RP aspect of monster identification. Realistically if you aren't an academic who studied monsters or had the carcass appraised by one.. you shouldn't know what they are actually called. That was what bugged me about Laura getting Bulette hide made into armor for Trinket, the only reason she knew that name was because Matt told them outside the game context. If she had said "I have this hide from a burrowing landshark thing I'd like you to look at" the Dwarven smith actually had experience enough to respond "oh you mean a Bulette" and pick up right where the rest of the conversation went.

The dumbest rule in 5e is easily having to use your own attack action for your animal companion. I could see if it was a bonus action or maybe even a move action, but having it the attack action causes your animal companion to never attack (Making it rather useless).

+AdamZ Gluchowski it's that you take your action to command your pet to specifically do something, in any versions in raw rules you have to use a standard action to handle animal to command your pet to do stuff. but, 95% of the DMs let the player control the pet as if it was a character, or the controls it. I don't know why in 5e they didn't mention that, i mean, yeah, if you don't tell it to do anything, it won't do exactly what you want, but its not like it is gonna stand there watching you fight to death not doing anything.

At 1:36:00 I feel so bad for Laura having her moment, that if we're being honest Matt probably put in expecting her to shoot an arrow for, being completely undermined and stolen by Orion being selfish. She rolled a 35. It was going to work, there's no way the DC on that was higher than a 35 even with how high the group generally rolls. It was her moment and you can tell how upset she is that it was interrupted MID NARRATION.

The Overlander campaign 2 is so much more rewarding than c1. sure, a few inside jokes are missed, but you get the whole journey from level 1 AND theres less episodes to catch up with AND flando can be pretty useful

Also, there are times when he will pointlessly pursue random stuff like buying things he wants and will waste everyone's time trying to do so.

@@QueenLaurizia having seen past the point where he quit, I'll just say that officially they never addressed him cheating or anything. However, during the last episodes he was in, the players next to him would monitor his rolls very closely, which could be an indication that he has fudged rolls before. Also he does this other annoying thing, where he just goes ahead and rolls a check without Matt asking him to, and then saying something like "oh btw my arcana check for this thing was 17". Which means that he could have rolled 5 times, picked a good roll and then presented it. But, like, even with those annoying moments, the campaign is really interesting to watch, so I would recommend sticking with it :)

Well he did have the ring of spell storing at the ready to help. I do feel he jumped the gun and if he had let Matt finish with the description (which he is in the habit of rudely interrupting) he might not have. Orion was dealing with a host of problems at the time and this resulted in him being less of a team player as time wore on. It's a shame that he let his personal issues get in the way of both his friendships here as well as the show, money, fame, etc.

It's literally one of the few times where Tiberius hasnt actively tried to metagame

@@mikk01975 It's also because Matt Mercer allows him to do normally impossible stuff with Telekinesis, like "Ripping a creature appart". You can target an objet, or a creature. There is no notion of targeting a limb from a creature. There is no notion of targeting 8 daggers at once (there is a spell called "Cloud of Dagger"). Orion basically thinks Telekinesis is an insta-kill spell, which makes no sense at all. And thus Matt Mercer has to step in and make it suck a bit more, which is soooo frustrating for Orion (like that Airship fight where he was so mad for "only" making the creature lose a turn instead of insta-killing it). I really dig some of the uses he made from it (like the slate of stone in the "Bone and glass" episode), but the fact that 90% of his rounds are "I use telekinesis to insta-kill that monster" is lame, and ridiculous).

He says stuff that could be creepy, but he doesn't do anything other than say ridiculous things and accepts it when pike is like "ummm maybe not" so it's just funny and not weird :)

I don't actually prefer someone to be so persistent, it is quite uncomfortable when someone is. Because being nice over and over doesn't work. And yeah, this is just for fun, haha, laughs, it's only a game of fake characters. Which is fine, but in reality, it would be not only annoying, but increasing uncomfortable for someone you don't want to be pursuing you, to pursue you, and when being polite doesn't actually work, it's very disheartening to the pursued.

@@toothless3835 I think it's a rare case of Pike and Scanlan having a unique understanding that Scanlan will never truly do anything inappropriate to Pike and will restrain himself to only words. And Pike knows that and gracefully just deflects everything. In the real world we can never truly trust scummy people to just keep to flirting. So I think this is the only way I can reconcile how they can dance around this dynamic without making Scanlan too unflattering.

Ugh Tiberius just HAS to insert himself into every situation when doing so isn't just clumsy but actually destroys what could be an amazing rp moment. Imagine for a second that after Scanlan told Pike "maybe we can come back and see it after its finished pike" then Pike could say to Scanlan "Actually Scanlan... I think, I have to leave you guys for a while and do this myself". That's the most basic and immediate thought that came to mind. It's not amazing, but it has the opportunity for their amazing voice acting to come in and for Sam's improv skills to be of use. That being said, it's still infinitely more appropriate than having the 4 wisdom dragonborn understand her need to sacrifice for the faith of others somehow and recommend her do this charity work for months of her life having to leave her friends and life behind as if he were suggesting she see a movie. He just can't help but scream out the answer when he sees it like a tactless child in a movie. It's not a race to point out others opportunities for personal choices that he could never understand with a wisdom of 4. If anything he should be the main one saying he doesn't understand why she's leaving.

I take it that you haven't met very many people with cancer. I've met 3 and each of them nervously injected themselves into conversations that have to do with meaningful life experiences. All 3 of them screamed at me seemingly out of blue and for no good reason. They have a fear that they haven't done much that is meaningful with their lives. As Orion said during this episode, he found inspiration from the leader of a charity who survived cancer. From watching these first 16 sessions. I can't say I know much about Tiberius's backstory. He hasn't had much opportunity from Matt to develop it and he doesn't have much between the other characters. The other players have all had their moments. I could see everyone was annoyed at the default tactic that the twins scout ahead and adventure alone while everyone else stays behind and does nothing. I haven't seen anything that resembles a set up for a plot involving Tiberius, whereas there are plenty for everyone else. It may be that at this point, Tiberius/Orion is just being barely tolerated. Getting cancer and feeling isolated/unwanted from the group, I can only imagine what that is like. I sure wouldn't want to be a part of something like that, and the followers of this show can be heartless and ruthless.

The fear, the pressure, the stress, the mental and physical strain is something I don't think most people can relate, but that doesn't make an asshole with cancer less of an asshole. He is an actor playing with his friends in front of thousands of people. If he can't get his shit together for 3 hours imagine what he is like when the cameras aren't rolling. You can be facing the hardest of hardships, a little self awareness is still the least you can do. And that wasn't the only problem. He scammed a crowd funding, he was having problems with drugs, was abusive towards ex-girlfriends, and in more than one occasion made others uncomfortable in game, the biggest offender has to be the "tiberius half-chub" moment.
