Honestly, Yami is the best Captain because of the fact that he recruits the misfits (that have potential, I should say). You see it a lot more throughout the series but EVERYONE in his team has some sort of ability that can counter the foe that they're facing with, not necessarily with exceptional ease, but with a reasonable advantage. It doesn't just boil down to Asta and that is what I love about this series.

That is what fuegoleon said to asta when the clover kingdom was being attacked by eye of the midnight sun. When it comes to other captains they may or may not have told him directly as far as I know, but they did acknowledged him as a worthy magic knight and I like to think that if they could go back in the past they would all chose asta in a heartbeat. Now that being said, I believe that asta being with the black bulls is the best because his power is different from everyone else and the squad also operates differently from everyone else and if asta was in a different squad I wonder if he could have been as focused and strong and happy as he is now with the black bulls treating each other like they are family. Ps - Black Bulls is definitely the Strongest squad in the clover kingdom and their unity was influenced by Asta and Yami.
