I just applied for an MSW program yesterday and almost didn’t because I feel so unsure and uncertain about what direction I want to go in. This is the type of information I needed to hear today. Taking a deep breath and hoping for the best! Thank you.

Also, I wrote one of my admissions essays about my interest in macro social work. I have no experience and little knowledge in macro social work in comparison to the information I have in micro social work!

Would love to hear your thoughts on Nonprofit Management Certifications. Completed the clinical track for MSW, now considering macro work! Thanks for your videos, very insightful.

Great video Gabby! A lot of my friends ask me about when/why they should apply to grad school. I highly suggest as my previous supervisor who was a career counselor recommended to get some “real world” experience before to understand somewhat of what their direction may be. That being said, be open to change. There have definitely been things that happened during my MSW journey that have given me insight on what my niche may be which is different than what I initially set out to do.

Thank you. Yes, I would recommend people live life before committing to an MSW. Not saying it won’t work out, because it ended up working out for me, but it maybe included some unnecessary stress. And you are right. Sometimes with experience, you find out you want to take a whole new approach. Life and growth happens! 😊 I’m wishing you the best with switching to Macro!

I will graduate with my BSW in May. After I get a job how long should I give it before I know I like it or not?

Hello! Congrats. That’s a tough question. I think you should at least give it any new opportunity a year. But sometimes you will know even sooner if it’s time to pivot to a new kind of job.

Hi there Gabby, I am Sal and currently undergrad in SW. Question for you. Can Social Workers hold a dual licensure? Can SW work in two different states? I live on the border of NV on the CA side.

Hello! Hmm great question. I haven't been in that situation. im actually not sure. I recommend you ask your state's board.

Hi! I am applying to an MSW program. I really love working with international/exchange students. Can I do something with this population with an MSW?

There are people who work in student affairs with an MSW. Have you also considered simply getting a masters in higher-education/student affairs?

I started my MSW program fall 2020 and I put it on pause until spring 2022 because I was so confused of what I wanted to do. I've been lucky enough to spend the last 3 years working in the field with social workers. I know I DO NOT want to do one on one therapy, but more case coordination/management.

I felt the same way and now that i’m done I want to do clinical/therapy😩😩😩 ... I’ll see where I end up
