I think I've watched the finished product 47 times now, and I have to say again how great your work is, dude! Not just as a VFX artist, but you are also clearly an incredibly skilled filmmaker yourself; the way you block and composite all the visuals, music and sound that you've added to the scene in such a perfectly intricate way so as to enhance the live-action segments is phenomenal. The way you use the opening Golden Gate flyby to visually inform the audience of the scale of the shuttle; which then transitions to the Spacedock approach helping to establish its massive size; to the busy interior of the station translating the danger of recklessly flying about such a (relatively) confined space; the thrusters firing shot showing the audience what is actually being discussed by the characters - not a single frame wasted. Bravo, sir, Bravo!

I'll 2nd the extended final shot. Lol! Also... that quick scene where Scotty is proud arms crossed and the cadet has his jaw on the floor. Your call dude... LOVE WHAT YOU'VE DONE.

Beautiful work. A lot of those vfx shots captured the motion of old fashioned motion control miniature setups ILM used. The beauty shots of the 1701 use to be constrained by the realities of filming with a physical model and motion control camera, and you'd see that reflected in the very clear and deliberate flow of those shots. Today, sadly, with no real constraints vfx artists just go ham and you get motion sickness inducing visual gobbledygook where you have to hope to god you don't have undiagnosed epilepsy

I like the use of the Search for Spock Music as the Bird of Prey escape Genesis. Excellent. Everything felt like it was something we would have seen or heard in one of the movies. If only there were people like you running Trek right now Mr. Wilde.

I assume it wasn't used to such a distance because of accumulating raytracing artifacts when reaching such a distance from the light source (sun)?! The final version with the view in the center and looking back between the pylons was the right decision.

@@larnregis I agree but the end shot does need to be extended.

Very cool. Oh, and I like that extended end shot with the Earth vanishing into the distance, viewed alongside the torpedo bay with the partial roll.

Your eye for a good shot is truly impressive. I love how you visualise the exterior shots of the ship, new angles and fresh approaches to digital composition. Hollywood and Star Trek in particular is missing out on your talents.

This is so awesome. We've never really gotten a feel for how fast the Enterprise actually is. This feels right. Keep up the great work!!!!

Mostly because there were good choices made in the Camera position edits and soundtrack. It was engaging from beginning to end. He has the makings of a great cinematographer.

Definitely would have looked better being included in the new HD 4K release. I say, of course, after watching the finished version first. I'm Visually blown away and you should be directing special effects!...for Paramount! Visualization is outstanding! Final version is Orgasimatic and better than anything I've seen.

I've constantly had these "remakes" pushed on me by youtube. Nothing has yet surpassed the original. 'Til today. There's some things I don't like. The thrusters, the impulse (which are probably more accurate) but for sheer realism, this is trumps.

I hate to say it, but perfect as your finished piece is, I think I like this departure previz shot where the camera is next to the neck better.
@misterwilde Жыл бұрын
Yeah. I like them both equally, I had to toss a coin. And I got feedback that the other angle blocked the view to the Spacedock too much.

So, are all the windows on your starbase modeled or is it just really high resolution materials?
@misterwilde2 жыл бұрын
All modeled, 8 sided polys, cloned radially around the whole thing. Maps would have never worked out properly. There were some excellent promo posters for Star Trek III where you could see the tiny holes they scratched into the paint of the model. I projected these onto the geometry and placed the windows exactly.

Excatly, it's not even rendered properly, it's a screen recording from the 3d tool I'm using. I always use that to refine the animations before I waste hours of rendering time.
