Hello ! Isn't cornmeal= Maïzena ? There was some in jour vidéo. Close to the semoule !
@EntertainingWithBeth2 ай бұрын
No unfortunately not. Maizena is Cornstarch or Corn Flour, used for thickening sauces or coating meat before sautéing. Corn Meal, is closer to polenta, a grainy corn product we use to make corn bread. :)
@marjolainer17612 ай бұрын
Thanks for the explanation ! Have a great holidays Season !

Interesting to note: cornflour is cornstarch to the Brits but I know cornflour as masa and cornmeal as textured ground corn that's fine, medium or coarse.

I’m a widow now who moved to the South and am starting to entertain again after having made some wonderful friends. I spent many happy times in France and the UK with my husband. Enjoy your beautiful life in France. This will be the. Best time of your life. Already pre ordered your cookbook. I feel like you’re a friend.

It's also been an interesting experience to have my husband (who was the "foreigner for 30 years in the US) be the local, and now I'm the foreigner ha! Life has so many things to teach us if we get outside our comfort zone, and personally I feel if we keep changing and evolving, it keeps us young :) I'm so happy you've ordered the book! I hope you find some new favorites in there that will become go-to recipes when entertaining your new friends! Thank you for your sweet note :)

In 2018, my daughter got married the day after Thanksgiving in Johannesburg, South Africa. She asked me to bring some traditional food items with me in my suitcase, so that she could have a “small” Thanksgiving rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. I brought a whole suitcase full of canned pumpkin, stuffing mix, spices and herbs, etc. Your quest for items reminded me of my search through the grocery stores there for the extras I needed. I laughed about your marshmallows, because the only ones I could find were pink and fruit flavored- quite a sight on top of the sweet potato casserole! I also had to quickly learn how to cook a jambon, because there was no such thing as a precooked baked ham. Also, the turkey was so small, too! The guests were wary of the pumpkin pie, but ended up loving it.

Everything looked delicious! I have a pet peeve about people bringing cut flowers to a dinner party. I love flowers, but when I'm hosting a party, I don't have time to look for the right size vase, trim the ends, and arrange them. I prefer an arrangement, a plant, or a small gift. I know it's petty (and I don't want to sound ungrateful), but I always have my hands full!
@EntertainingWithBeth2 ай бұрын
I totally know what you mean! And the funny thing is, it's a really popular thing to bring flowers here in France, even in the states the only guests who would bring flowers to our parties were the French guests ha! I feel the same way about never wanting to be ungrateful, so I keep a few vases in our studio bedroom for such occasions so it doesn't become too cumbersome :)

Bravo Beth!!!! You did it!!! Your spread looked absolutely beautiful and delicious and I'm so happy you did not pass over your American holiday in France. I could see it was very heartwarming and sentimental for you and well worth it! The only thing is that I am sure your French family will now look forward to this celebration every year! Lucky you!!! Lol!

France is looking good on you Beth! You look relaxed and happy ...I m so glad! Loved this video ,,I hope your French friends and family appreciate the hard work you put into your Thanksgiving feast..lol. Just because you make everything look so easy doesn t mean it is. Looking forward to your cookbook coming out. Please keep us updated.

Loved this! So interesting to see the snags you encountered and overcame. Love how you set everything out and labeled - great hint! I'm claiming my island like you did - because it is so true, it is the first place everyone puts their stuff when they arrive to 'help.'

I certainly enjoyed this video, it was so much fun and the enthusiasm in where you were walking and talking you wanted to make your Thanksgiving dinner for your French friends. I know we’ll be a complete success and also the elegance of your table in the atmosphere would be wonderful.
