Prolific TV producer Norman Lear has died. He was 101. Lear died at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes on Tuesday, a spokesperson tells ET in a statement. A private service for immediate family will be held. The titan of television was the mastermind behind iconic series 'All in the Family,' 'The Jeffersons,' 'Maude' and 'Good Times,' along with 'One Day at a Time' and the sitcom's 2017 reboot.

I grew up watching every one of your sitcoms. Loved them all. I'll tell you, my dad has never laughed so hard as to when he'd watch All In The Family. There is a generation out there that will never forget your sitcoms and the diversity they brought to television. May you rest in peace, Mr. Lear 🙏💜

Norman Lear gave spotlight to a part of America that had not been given much attention on television. A part of the country that had real concerns, that was affected by the issues of that period. Poverty, discrimination, war in Vietnam, women’s rights, abortion. He took television in a new direction by not ignoring the America that most tv shows wanted to pretend didn’t exist. He changed TV forever and we are not only grateful to him, we need a Norman Lear more than ever. R.I.P.

Rest in peace Mr. Norman Lear. Thank you for the sitcoms that you have created. For the wonderful memories of growing up and watching these shows around supper time when the family was together. Most of all the show All in the family. Every Saturday night while my older siblings were out on dates or hanging with friends my momma, daddy and me would be in our living room watching All in the family. I was 5 yrs old. Great memories! 😊

This is very sad news. This man literally crossed my mind. A couple of days ago. He is the ultimeant storyline to my growing up as a child. In the 70s. All the TV shows in which I have ever grown up on his name is on it. I still to the day watch reruns everyday. I am what we call vintage. Nostalgic Person there are not enough words to speak on thisPhenomenal man. I am very sad and hurt and feel like part of my childhood is going away. He created most. If not all of the TV shows we grew up with.Love you, Mr. Norman Lear the king of television rest in peace.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Correction: American screenwriter and TV series creator, Eric Monte (born Kenneth Williams; Dec. 25, 1943) depicting 1970s culture of people of color wrote and created Good Times (with actor and screenwriter Mike Evans), The Jeffersons as a writer, What's Happening based on the movie Cooley High, as well as the spin-off series, What's Happening Now. Eric Monte also pitched The Jeffersons AND Sanford and Son to Norman Lear. Mr. Monte also suggested Lear cast Red Fox as the main character Fred Sanford. Norman Lear had the means to bring Eric Monte’s and Mike Evans creative visions to television. The theme song for the television sitcom The Jeffersons was created by Ja’Net DuBois (d. 2020), creative songwriter, and singer who was best known for her portrayal of Willona Woods in the television sitcom Good Times. Norman Lear is given far too much credit for a number of sitcoms created for television; tv programs which were the ideas or personal life experiences of other creative writers and producers. Please give credit wherever credit is due. Example: Norman Lear, along with Eric Monte, Mike Evans, Bud Yorkin, and other creative writers and producers brought you Sandford and Son, Good Times, What’s Happening, and All In The Family, a remake of a British television program on the air six years before Archie Bunker was created for American television.

All in the Family was lightning in a bottle. Many people had an Archie Bunker somewhere in their family or social circle. And, Norman did his homework. He faithfully represented the political demographics of the legislative district on Staten Island where Archie lived. He lived to be 101. Thanks for giving us laughter!

The Jeffersons was another great one. To this day, my brother still calls me Weezie. Those were the days when sit coms were everything. Back then, there were only 3 tv channels.
