Austin Butler chats with ET's Nischelle Turner about his physical transformation into the 'King of Rock & Roll' for 'Elvis.' The actor opens up about how he prepared to portray the iconic singer for Baz Luhrman's musical biopic, and what it meant to have Priscilla Presley's approval. Austin also recalls Tom Hanks' heartwarming embrace the first time they met. 'Elvis' hits theaters on June 24.

I just hope he can keep the momentum going, especially if he wins the Oscar. I'm just remembering when Adrian Brody won for The Pianist, everyone thought he'd be a megastar from that day forward and he totally bombed. He hasn't been in a decent film since, unless you consider just about every Wes Anderson film ever made as being "decent". I wish Austin Butler better luck!

I honestly didn't know much about Elvis or was interested UNTIL I saw the movie. My whole perception was changed and really saw who he was as a person, not just the "showman" Elvis. Seeing it this week for the THIRD time before it leaves theaters. The best part was seeing it by myself first, loving it so much I had to get my mom to see it. My mom is in her 70's and lived through the whole Elvis era and thought this would be just another Elvis movie... she didn't care much for him in the later years, but I showed her interviews with Austin and Baz, behind the scenes clips, and interviews with Priscilla giving her approval. My mom decided she did want to finally see it. After the movie, she had tears in her eyes and she said she now understood who he was as a person and learned many things she never knew before. She also said she never watches the Oscars, but will this time with hopes the cast will take home some wins! I truly believe this movie will bring new generations and followers of Elvis. I for sure am one of them!

I'm in my 30s now and I don't think I let one day go by where I didn't listen to One Elvis song. Elvis and his music and personality have constantly echoed throughout my life. Another great interview that confirms Austin Butler was the right choice to play Elvis and will win the Oscar without a doubt. It’s the right time for all the Elvis fans old and new to join a movement and spread the word to get Hollywood to recognize Elvis Presley with an Oscar for his numerous contributions to the movie industry… Ok fans, these interviews and the stars are what Hollywood was all about and it somehow got lost….now in a unique way it’s back….I was lucky to experience the Elvis world he created back in the 50’s ….black & white television appearances, buying his 45’s for 39 cents, going to see Love Me Tender in a movie palace, that’s right a movie palace in Washington Heights, New York….years later Elvis live in Madison Square Garden…fast forward 3 1/2 years ago I began writing my book, never knowing that this monumental movie was in the works…Of course I haven’t seen the movie yet, only the trailers but the new book Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar gives an accurate account of why Elvis deserves an Oscar for not only his 31 movies but for his unequaled contributions to the movie industry. On another note everyone who had the opportunity to see Elvis movies in the theaters when they were originally released always came away with a unique and gratifying movie experience. Elvis was not only a movie star but a great actor also. Austin Butler will absolutely win the Oscar for his performance in “Elvis”. This is the movie you must see, Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar is the book you must read, 536 pages with a great cover. It’s time Hollywood recognized Elvis for his contributions to the movie industry…when Austin Butler gets his Oscar next year and he will, Hollywood needs to right the ship and give one to Elvis. For those who say I’m wrong, for those who want to criticize these feelings, remember what you are witnessing is coming from the greatness that Elvis possessed……Elvis never really left the building, he is forever right there in our minds and hearts….as Ed Sullivan would say “tonight this is going to be a really really big show right here on our stage, Elvis……Presley………

Beautifully said. I’m a child from the 80’s-90’s and wanted to be an Actress, Dancer, Singer from the time I was 6yrs old-ish … I watched all of his re-runs on Television. Then I got into the Jackson’s who also appreciated him. I’m working on a screenplay- and visualizing my dreams after (I have a dream board I made in 1994 with an Oscar on it) having a family and knowing it’s my time to pursue my dreams. That’s the magical thing about Elvis- he new how to dream and do it! I let other people stand in my way and slowly gave up. I can’t wait to go see the movie! I’ll be looking for that book!

@@monsoleil5053 Thank you for your kind words, you must stay positive like you described, nothing is impossible if you have the Will to pursue it. My other Oscar books that I wrote are, Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, three more overlooked icons when it came to getting an Oscar. When I decided to continue The Quest for an Oscar series over 3 1/2 years ago I had no idea a movie about Elvis was in the works. Like I referenced in my comments, I lived every moment of the Elvis phenomenon, was at the Ed Sullivan show live, at the premiere of Love Me Tender in Times Square, NYC, then in Washington Heights, I saw that movie 9 times, how about that. There is so much about Elvis and what he did while he prepared for the movie roles. How his co-stars were in awe of his passion to be a great actor. Then just how great he was as a man, humble, kind, gentle and the presence that made you and me admire him to this day. I was a young boy and he was an influence on how I lived my life. I shouldn’t mention the many truly unbelievable connections I share with Elvis and was reluctant to include them in the book, but a close relative who of course knew me during my teens and twenties said to let the fans know there was this guy, this Elvis double decades before Elvis impersonators became common place. Please accept my humble thoughts about the book but it just came out you can look inside it on Amazon and I know you will love the cover. A fan in England has even made several KZbin videos about the book just type in Elvis : The Quest for an Oscar. The important part of this reply is to spread the word that Elvis Presley most definitely deserves His Oscar….and as Elvis sang, “Just Tell Her Jim Said Hello.”

Austin Butler Amazing amazing actor I have never seen an emotional delivery so real that I managed to live that time for more than 02:30 minutes dancing dancing singing acting with faces and mouths and visceral expressions a spectacle of acting Elvis Presley deserves this star that appeared in the movies.

I’m so glad Austin took a break from screen work and did that play in New York. It really shifted his career and he finally got a roll that challenged him even more than the play. Austin went from being Vanessa’s nine year rebound from Zac to being an actor on the brink of being one of the greats of our time. I just hope Austin can now move forward, without feeling like he needs to top this Elvis endeavor, because that may never happen again. This was lightning in a bottle. He really did amazingly in it! If he moves forward without the need to top this, he should fair well. If he finds any following roles a lot less fulfilling, that could be a problem. But, by watching all his press for Elvis, he seems so grounded and humble. I want nothing but the best for him. If only I was 5 years younger and a Californian, I’d die to bump into him and fall in love!
