I personally believe the film crew saw the true danger and opted for safer trips so we have seen less. @kirara2516
@kirara2516 Жыл бұрын
@@butter7734 The captain is supposed to be watching the waves while the crew are on deck. Be aware of the sea as its unpredictable. It you se a wall of water coming towards the deck, even if it doesn't look huge, you tell your guys, "Watch out." or "Head's Up." Sometimes they just get a splash, other times you get this. And need to not only be aware of the incoming waves, but where your guys are on deck and keep both a count of them and knowing both where they are, and where they might end up. If the weather becomes too bad and you can't predict when a wave will crash on deck, you call off work and get your crew inside to safety and jog around until the weather improves. If you watch other captains on this show like Cig, John, and even the late, great Phil, you will see experts manage these situations much better. The crew shouldn't have gotten as angry as they did, but that's mostly adrenaline.

@@totrigo6834 the point is they shouldn't be in a situation that can cause that. Rogue waves happen they all know that, but the captain needs to make everyone aware of of it, even if it's dark a captain should be keeping vigilant. after it hit he didn't ask if everyone was alright he just made an excuse. It's not that the waves hit, it's that he didn't take responsibility. As captain, everything that happens is on him. Mother nature included, if they capsize because of a wave, then why the hell were they there. The answer is the captain

This is an old clip & it was Jakes first time captaining the boat on that trip but he was a co-captain, not the actual captain, he wasn't in charge of the boat

"What am I supposed to do?" he whines. Try calling out a warning to your crew in a loud, clear voice and not like you're singing a baby bird to sleep.

I'm certainly no fishing expert I hate being on boats, but why aren't those deck workers wearing harnesses strapped to an anchor point in conditions like that? Does that pose more of a risk for them? Seems like a no brainer to me.

I dont care if he didnt see the waves, the complete absence of confidence and action - oriented reaction to the waves , his voice cracking in desperation, was absolutely pathetic. This captain belongs in at the end of a checkout line bagging your groceries, not with the lives of 5 men in his hands. I hope his career ended after this, because he does not belong on the sea.

As a Bering Sea crabber back in the wild west days *BEFORE* it became a gentleman fishery...this was wild, but that's the business they're in. Quit crying, dry off and go back to work. That's what we did because it was "derby-days" and the boats didn't have quota's it was just one *BIG* quota.

The rich haven't been the only ones eating crab! You do know it comes fresh, frozen or canned, and can be flown pretty much anywhere, right? And that seafood restaurants all over the world serve crab to the rich along with every other class of people, right? Or are you just putting your jealousy out there because the rich have money and you don't?
