As I commented on Archie's video: if this burglary was real (i.e. not some kind of KZbin stunt) then it is utterly shocking and we should have every sympathy with the poor guy. However I do find it quite hard to believe that Archie/Paul Pluta would have been so (how shall we say?) _unsophisticated_ as this. He says he has a deposit box in a big bank. Yet he goes away from home and leaves his _entire collection_ in one easily findable safe inside his home? Apparently including the papers too? Would he really do that?? Papers should always be stored separately from watches (in another safe or well hidden in another part of the home.) That is security 101, isn't it? But there is actually no reason why the papers would ever be out of the bank deposit box at all - unless a watch is being sold or serviced. Having the entirety of a large collection in his home when he has a deposit box? Again, really? Then why have the damn deposit box!? And then putting it all in one single safe? Would he be that green? I dunno...I dunno... I guess truth can be stranger than fiction. This could be for real - I'm not saying I definitely think it is a stunt to get views. But I've got some little shadows of doubt, quite honestly.

Hi Marc, yes you are right Insurance will cover in most cases $10k (in Aust). The reality is you should factor it into the cost of the watch. Yes - watches should be in safe deposit box, but here in Aust a lot of banks are getting out of that business, so there are fewer options for that. Insurance - I have mine collection fully insured, costs $3k per yr. A recent article/video by Time and Tide (also down under) mentioned that all their office staff did not have insurance, I was amazed. My most expensive watch is a Daytona 116509, I could not wear it without proper insurance.

Re: the stolen serial number registry idea. I’ve said this many times on Thorpe’s videos about this: it’s not just impractical (or impossible); it’s not even legal. The idea is that Rolex should keep a registry of serial numbers of stolen watches and when they come in for service they should return them to the “rightful” owners. Might sound like a good idea if you completely lack critical thinking skills….absent a court order: how do they know who the rightful owner is? …what gives them the right to take possession away from a victim? First of all: a good faith purchaser for value holds good legal title against the whole world [including Rolex and the police] except the rightful owner. The rightful owner can present evidence in court and get an order to have the property returned. Absent that: Rolex would be in fact stealing the item if *they* took possession. Now, let’s imagine how hard it would be for this to be abused (as I’m sure happened in the past…which is *obviously* why they no longer do this. Scenario 1) I have 3 watches, box and papers in my name. I sell Marc the watches without papers, for cash. I then falsely report the watches stolen. What happens when Marc- who is not just a good faith purchaser, but actually the rightful owner, goes to get his watch serviced? Should Rolex hand the watch over to me…the thief?? Scenario 2) some scammer on the opposite side of the globe goes on eBay looking for listings with serial numbers showing. Reports the watches he’s never owned as stolen from him. Should Rolex just send him watch after watch just because he says absent any evidence that it’s his? The obvious answer is no. Absent a court order they have absolutely no legal authority to confiscate any watches. A court order requires proof of both ownership and theft…not just calling a phone number, or registering a number on a website.

You watch too many movies. NOBODY is going to “drill a hole and use a bore scope to look inside…” Those “idiots” used what every thief would use. Most “safes” are not actually safes, they’re residential security containers. A grinder will get through one of those in seconds to a minute or two, not hours! Even jewelry safes, T30x6 will only hold up to a grinder for 30 minutes maximum. Archie is too cheap for one of those. In fact, most RSC’s can be cut through with a butcher knife or hatchet…easily. Mine was $10k and it’s 7 gauge steel (high end RSC) on every side, the door being much greater. It still will not hold up during an attack for more than a few minutes with a grinder.

Very sorry to hear this. I think there's a huge lesson in this for KZbinrs of luxury items, in that if you become well known on a subject of extremely expensive items which are easily pocketable, keep them in a bank safety deposit box. Some watches are on a level that no matter how beautiful and desirable they are for you, they're a liability to own, store and wear. Even if I were hyper rich, a la Bill Gates or the late Steve Jobs, I couldn't see myself wanting to wear a watch worth much more than $10k (AUD). For me it's Omega stainless for special occasions and Seiko for the 9-5.

The main house was not touched and the car not stolen. Suspect(s) spend hours breaking a safe yet don't access the house looking for other high value items - this is very odd. The car keys taken but car left behind. This suggests that the suspect(s) either planned on returning, or could not drive, or did not have contacts to get rid of the car. Probably the later two. The method of breaking the safe was amateurish. Writing a death threat if the police where called is amateurish too. No one in their right mind thinks that a victim is not going to call the police after having 100k+ stolen, unless the suspect(s) assume the police will easily ID them.

Excellent report, so you have some history with lockboxes! Cool. So the bad guy(s) went in on the top side it seems, to enter the safe, so does that mean they did not open the main door and instead just emptied everything through that rectangular hole on the top?

He did a vid early hours of today, they tried to pry open the door but failed, so cut a hole in the top of the safe. It looked like a thin steel outer layer, then about 4” concrete and another thin steel inner layer

@@DeeKay84 I saw that on AC3's video but did the thieves force the door open eventually after they cut a hole in the safe? If not then that suggests the LV boxes were outside the safe when it happened. Ok ... where are the LV boxes themselves?

So the bad guys somehow got the watches out thru that small hole on the top? Something hard to believe. Who is really to say AC3's insurance claim may be factual?
