His conduct was definitely disorderly and you should have called the police after the second incidence of him yelling and screaming painting a lot of people would have after the first time explain to him that he either needs to calm down or he will be asked to leave and thrown out

The third story. The OP deciding to take care of her sister's children was a very brave thing to do. And the OP is better off without her so called friends who can't seem to understand the sacrifices she is making so that those kids can, more or less, have a normal life. And I can't blame her former fiance for leaving her, the guy has his own life to live.

Wait, I call BS on the hotel story. If a business asks that someone be trespassed, their expectation of privacy is gone. They are no longer welcome, GTFO or GTFO in cuffs. Once they have been trespassed, a refusal to leave is a crime. They are not acting as agents of the hotel. The hotel should file a complaint against the officers.

Too true, I work at a mental health program that also happens to be a house and you can imagine it's not easy to get those into nice neighborhoods. I have had to explain the law to police on several occasions when they tried to refuse to do their jobs. I would bet it's usually that they don't want the paperwork or it's close to shift change. Took me ten minutes one night to get them to remove some random homeless lady from our porch. They tried to claim that we had no grounds to trespass her because they had arbitrarily decided despite our actual license that we were an emergency shelter. Most absurd conversation ever.

Umm, if its not an active shooter and nobody has suffered any bodily harm, the police cannot walk into any private room or house and arrest or remove someone without a warrant. Thats tenfold for hotels. This is why you have security guards, security guards are employed by the hotel and such privacy laws the police have to follow security doesn't. As security is directly employed by the business and has full rights to do such. The cop didn't fail his job, in fact he followed it to a tee. If he did what the clerk wanted too, he would be a corrupt cop that violated someone's constitution. You would be asking for the cop to get fired if he did that.

@@kano8 where do you get this crap. It’s called being trespassed. You have someone trespassed and the police are required to remove them from the property. Hotel guests are not considered residents anywhere and are not protected under that. By your logic I can sit down in Your living room and you would have to remove me. By your logic if I were sitting on your couch and you wanted me to leave your property the police can’t do anything until after you try to remove me and I put a sharp object in your chest. Please stop being stupid.
@kano8
@kano8 Жыл бұрын
@@venomshadowblood8353 the clerk never asked the person to leave, she called the cops and ask them to tell them to leave. Cops do not have the authority to do that at a private business on private property. Security guards can and do have the authority. You as a private individual need to be informed you are trespassing when on a business private property that is open to the public. And for criminal trespassing, both the clerk, and individual would have to sign trespassing orders before the cop could pyschical remove them. I've dealt with the process enough and have gone to court many times as a result of being a security guard.

In the second story the author or their manager should have filed a complaint with the police department, that was some piss poor service from the pigs.
@kano8
@kano8 Жыл бұрын
The "pigs" followed the law to a tee, and didn't violate someones rights. That's what security is for, if they had security that night, the security guard would have been able to remove the person so the police could arrest them. But as they where in a room on private property they couldn't remove the person unless one of 4 things happened. Active shooter, caused bodily harm to another, properly damage, active arrest warrant.
@Icalasari

As much as I HATE to say it, the police actually did everything right there. Think of it from an outside perspective, you only have the clerk's word. Innocent until proven Guilty is the name of the game, the police doing more would have actually been an overstep of their powers. It's utterly bizarre, but this is actually police doing things correctly. What the hotel needs is security detail so they can trespass unruly guests instead of putting the clerk in danger

As a former front desk clerk, if a police officer told me it was not his job to trespass individuals from private property, I would have burst out laughing. Then told him, 'That's okay. I'll just call the staties. What was your name again? I'm sure they'll get a kick out of the town cop who doesn't know his job description." Last trespass I did before I changed to an out of state university, the college bros opened the door to the police with powdered donuts minus the donuts RIGHT THERE on the table. The locals were in pretty high spirits while leading the bros out in handcuffs. I guess busts aren't normally that easy, hahaha.

In story 3, I agree with the general consensus that the friends were definite jerks who couldn't stand to stay still for even a minute or two, but the fiance made a fair decision of leaving, as agreeing to have no children then suddenly having several is a break of the agreement between that couple and he's allowed to do what he feels is right for him after that. But of course, what the OP there did for their sister's kids was amazing and I'm glad that they take care of the kids properly even though it means losing a big part of their life before Edit: To clarify, I don't think the OP is a jerk for taking in the kids despite the fiance not wanting any, life throws curveballs one after another and sometimes they hit those close to you too

In the last story I'd honestly say no one did anything wrong/jerk-ish. Fact of the matter is a lot of people lose friends when they become a parent. Your life no longer fits with your old life. Some friends can work around that and some friendships can last, but it's normal for friendships to kind of end at that point. Nothing wrong with that, the old friends weren't bad or anything just because they wanted to keep living their lives as they've been living them.

The woman in the last story should start a web page looking for others that have done what she has done for her nephews. That way the like minded people can share their thoughts, experiences and feelings with each other. I for one congratulate her for showing us what a good person is. While her story also shows how shallow her so called friends and Fiance were. She's better off without them.

The only expectation of privacy in his hotel room ended the second the hotel ended his stay for gross misconduct and threats of violence.

Am I the jerk for rubbing and looking at my palms? I know I'm not the jerk but I figured I'd share this short story. I used to work at a grocery store. We wore red shirts, but despite me having worked at a certain bullseye store, I've never considered it a grocery store and it isn't the store in question. I had worked at the store, at the time, for about a year and 8 months. I was good at it, as I was told by managers often that if they could clone me, they'd happily do so just cause everything would be done so fast and efficiently. This was back when covid was starting to pick up and after I had been sick for a month with what I could only assume was covid. I've never been one to use moisturizer, and with all the hand sanitizer I was being asked to use, the palms of my hands had begun to peel quite a bit from skin drying out and dying. I had been working the self checkout, on a very slow morning. It had been an hour of the store being open and only one person had came in before the one in question. So I was sitting at the self checkout, chatting with a coworker, when this man walks in. He looked like one of the rather common panhandlers we saw at the gas station nearby. He had rather shaggy dirty blonde hair, was rather thin and looked like he may have been late 30s, early 40s, had a lazy eye and was clearly on something or drunk. At the time, I had been looking at my hands and rubbing at the skin, as it was rather annoying to have it peeling off, when this guy yells over at me, "What's that supposed to mean?!" I looked over at him in confusion, and asked "Pardon me?" He kept walking over, and moved his hand in front of his face in a similar fashion to what you'd see John Cena do, and said, "What's that, some sort of gang sign?" I stared a moment and shook my head, saying, "No.. my hands were itching and the skin is peeling." The guy preceded to get up close, within a foot of me and said, "You don't want to mess with me, I'll mess you up. I know Tai Chi." I admittedly almost laughed at that, as at the time I carried a karambit on my left hip for self defense specifically. I had never used it, and when my coworker saw my face grow cold, they quickly called the manager up. I simply said, "Okay. Cool." The guy started walking around, rambling on about how he'd seen gang signs and blah blah blah. Now I'm not a huge guy but I am a very strong guy and I apparently look larger to others when I grow the cold mood. I'm about 6 foot, but only weight about 150-160 lbs. My weight fluctuates a lot. Now I was also strong, as my coworker and manager knew. I was capable of pushing 68 carts that weighed 55 lbs each in a row up an incline. Once I got started, I wouldn't stop. The manager came up as I was staring the guy down, and immediately said that he needed to get out. The guy just muttered more stuff and walked out. When the manager and my coworker asked if I was okay, I said, "Yeah, I'm alright. That guy definitely had something wrong with him." My coworker started snickering and said, "What did he say he knew?" I laughed and said "Tai Chi. But I don't know if it would've mattered as with his lazy eye AND the substances he had probably had, he probably saw way more of me than I did of him, and I doubted he'd be able to do much." My manager, coworker and I laughed and joked about it for a few weeks then left it at that. The guy never came back in the store and I never saw him specifically again. But regardless, am I the jerk?

The hotel absolutely has the right to have that guest removed and the cops should have used the master key to remove him the instant op said “yes, I am officially trespassing the guest.” In almost every state, as soon as a trespass is issued, it’s a felony to remain on the property or to return
@kano8

For it to become a felony trespass on business private property they and yourself have to sign a document stating as such. Futhermore even if the guest was no longer a guest. The cops legally cannot remove him on private property if he is locked behind a closed door. Security guards employed by the hotel could if one was stationed. The only time the police could have broken their constitutional right and removed him was if he did 1 of 4 things. Active shooter, bodily harm, property damage, or had an arrest warrant. Learn the laws on what police can and cannot do on private property. As a security guard, I have thrown police out of hotels many of times or completely denied them entery as they had no grounds to be there at said time.

I wouldn't crap on op's friends too much. Obviously it's an awful Situation. However it's also not easy to have a friend that also just disappears out of Nowhere. again obviously OP is going through a much harder time, But it's hard to maintain a relationship with someone who just no longer has time to hang out anyMore. Even worse than that o p's entire life has changed. What are they going to talk to anymore? She's right none of Her friends have kids so they really can't join in on that conversation. Suddenly OP his life is all about these kids. Op made the right decision, But it doesn't change the fact that now she's walking a completely different road than her friends are.. I had this whole thing happened with a friend of mine. When we first met she was single and I was single. We were both child free. It's a long story and personal but eventually she had some children and also some pets. I really try to maintain a friendship and be a part of her life but it became very clear that we were no longer in the same place we were when we first met. I just didn't connect with their children and and we just didn't have time anymore. We haven't talked in yes and the last time talking to a stranger compared the person I first met. There is nothing wrong with the life that she choseBut it just seemed like we were growing apart. I still hope she is doing well but it was one of those things where we both had to let go of each other and find people That were heading in the same direction in life.

I think its bit unfair to call ex/friends in the last story "not good people"... Its not that "people cant see you're trying to do best thing for kids", they see it, but should they all change their lifestyle because one person have kids? If their whole relationship and most of interactions was parties and trips... and OP cant participate in any of them... then what else there's to do? Oh kid-friendly trip to petting zoo for whole friend group every weekend? There was story from the other side on AITA, where among group of young, child-free people, one of them ended up with a baby... And yeah, they tried for a bit, suggested babysitters... But it just didn't work, their lifestyles, wants and needs were just too different. It was judged as clear NTA on the friends side. You cant hold on to friendship just by meeting for lunch 2 times a year... so its either forced lifestyle change for whole group or that friendship is gone. Even more with boyfriend. He wasn't angry, he didn't demand she abandons the kids, he just choose best option he could in this situation. Doing full 180 on your life, breaking every agreement and expectation you had before entering the relationship and taking in (at least two) traumatised kids you have zero relation with is not a small favour... and forcing someone not ready and not wanting to have kids into parenthood will end up bad for everyone included. Especially kids. OP has love and and connection with the kids and already feels burned, boyfriend would only have resentment. Its sad, life is cruel, but it doesn't make the other "side" outright "toxic" and bad people. Nobody is the bad guy here, just life.
