I had a girl who was watching our first employee use her phone even though we had specifically told the first employee not to be on the phone except for brief urgent needs and she was allowed to listen to podcasts while doing long cleaning tasks we also informed the new hire. But instead they were browsing Instagram and FaceTiming because the first employee said it was okay. I walked in there and I told them I don't want to pay $26 to use Instagram every hour, a few weeks later we fired the first girl because it was a lot of complaining and disrespectful attitudes towards the new hire. The second girls our general manager year and a half later. Turned things around, super reliable. 5 employees now on payroll just left her alone in the store running it on extremely busy days for 6 out of the last 10 days while we were on business, she handled it the best she possibly could have, everything got done, and the store did great. Its a relief to not have let my attitude towards both employees sour because i didnt say anything. Instead we addressed it if things dont improve we let them go. Thankfully the other girl has not gone without employment, she just no longer works at a start up and I wish her the best and see her once in a while still. When i dont say anything I bottle it up and find myself angrier and angrier over dumb stuff

We're getting ready to have a "come to Jesus" talk with one of our employees. This episode was very helpful. Thank you.

Hallelujah! God bless you all. The Will of Heavenly Father. Is our most important job. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17

If you were to express the ratio of downtime for a piece of equipment as a cost to the business, how would you break down the math Dave? Is there a rule of thumb?

I've had to fire people. Some of them long-time employees. It's a not-fun part of operating a business. If a person shows a first sign of being unreasonable, I notify them immediately. And when you have to fire them, because they have exhibited unreasonable behavior, it is good to have a witness because unreasonable people can be unpredictable. A friend of mine was the head of Human Resources at Tesla, reporting directly to Elon Musk for several years. He told me that he's had people overturn conference tables when he told them they were being fired. Some test that assesses a job candidate for being unreasonable would be valuable. .

Hey Dave, If your looking for someone to buy Ramsey Solutions for a dollar, based on what you said just now, I wouldn’t mind taking it off your hands.

I DON'T agree with calling a parent by their first name under ANY circumstances. That's one point I don't buy the justification for. Otherwise, wise mindset. I think it looks out of place when I see Rachel call her Dad "Dave" on air. Not appropriate.

If he wants to be called Dave then that's his business. On your radio show your daughter can call you dad lol. He feels it's best to not be influenced by the personal relationship in the business setting as much as possible.

What's not appropriate is somebody being called "Mum" or "Dad" in the workplace by somebody that they work with. It also helps when it comes to separating work from home.

This is very old school and has been a pretty standard thing for centuries. If you're working for your dad, you call him by his name just like everybody else there, you don't get to call him Dad. This works both ways, if you are calling him dad it's clear you got your job because he's your dad, if you call him Dave you're at least attempting to prove you're the same as the other employees and got the job and keep the job based on merit. So it's a compliment to Rachel, to have her call him Dave, it's saying she has a job because of the same reason everyone else has a job, her competence.
