@@Rome5.0 I’m only 5 days in so I’m still very new, but I would say the most difficult part so far is the abundance of information I need to absorb. Each process I’m shown on its own is not necessarily “hard,” but remembering how to do all of them can get overwhelming. Either way, Im sure with time and practice everything will become second nature so I’m not too worried

@@jaysonm2552 I used Indeed. Make sure you put time into creating/ refining your resume. I wasn’t looking for a specific job during my search due to my lack of experience. I just wanted anything that was in accounting and had a starting salary that I considered to be fair. I applied to jobs that I thought were slightly out of my reach and ended up getting one of them. Don’t waste your time applying for jobs that you’re wildly unqualified for but do try jobs that you have most of the qualifications for. I only have a 2 year degree and was hired on as a junior accountant (I actually am the only accountant and do both financial reporting and cost accounting). I beat out the other 93 applicants. @Nic-xr1og

There are technical colleges in the US that offer 2 year degrees. They are primarily focused around working adults. They basically cut most of the fluff out so a bachelors degree, while it would be more rounded and “better”, doesn’t really teach you that much more on a cost-benefit ratio. However, most companies want bachelor degrees unfortunately.

The final job listing for the accounts payable accountant, at the 19:09 mark, says it requires 3 years experience. How is this entry level? It seems like getting an accounting degree is incredibly overrated. Here's a job that requires three years experience and pays 55k. That's not particularly good. It seems like there are a lot easier and enjoyable degrees and career paths to be making similar money. Most of the entry level jobs I see (the ones requiring 0-2 years experience) pay around 18 dollars per hour, which is barley over minimum wage in New York (Min Wage is 15 per hour). I just saw a post tha required a BS in accounting, preferred a Masters and progress towards a CPA, and required 3-5 years experinece and the job was paying 45k per year. Really amazing.

What does it mean when it’s your 2nd week at work and you’ve been kind of nervous because you’re new to the job but you ask one of your trainers and she says your doing great and she asks “how long have you been here, since last week?” “I reply “yes since last week” and she says “yeah you’re doing really good”. But she has given more work to the one that has been there for 7 months and the guy who’s been there for 1 month, and not me…. Does that mean she doesn’t think I’m ready for that amount of work? I work for the city as an accounting clerk. ….. am I just overthinking it? I was working really fast and balancing with my money while the others were kind of messing up with their counting and then all of a sudden yesterday and today they started working faster than usual…… any thoughts? I obtained a bachelors in accounting, I already had a degree in business. However, I have zero relevant experience. I am seeing jop posts requiring 2-3 years of experience and knowledge of various computer applications other than excel such as sage, quick books, microsoft access , microsoft dynamics, and many others. This feels frustrating when not having such exposure. Any suggestion as to how to tackle this sort of obstacle during an interview? Depends on your goal. Say it’s a controller at some point. Grinding it for 2-3 years at big4 or regional firm gets you there sooner (but low work life balance) . But you can also get there with a smaller public cpa firm with better work life balance, but takes you a bit longer to get to target role
