Do you need to spend a bunch of money on expensive gear to capture great shots? No. I recently took a trip to Big South Fork and brought my entry level gear - a Nikon D3400 and 18-55 kit lens. A bit of knowledge and experience go a long way with many entry level cameras.
Regardless of your gear (i.e. Canon T6i, T7i, Sony a6000, Nikon D3500, etc.), you CAN take AWESOME shots!:) Expensive gear can be nice, but is it necessary for GREAT/AWESOME shots? Under most conditions, no.
