It’s kind of ironic that some of the worst environmental disasters in history were the result of environmentalists trying to help. When Yellowstone nearly burned to the ground it was because they spent the previous decade putting out every little brush fire. There’s been several occasions where an invasive species like Pablo escobar’s hippo farm has been allowed to proliferate beyond the point of control because the environmentalists would let the actual conservationists go in and kill the bastards while their population was still controllable. And don’t even get me started on the times where they tried to shoehorn a biome into fitting their ideal of nature being some timeless unchanging sentinel, only to have it backfire because nature is always changing and adapting and when you try to force it into a state of stagnation shit just collapses on itself.

Annually, about 4000 "possible native Chinook" are trucked up from a lower dam (Foster Resivior) and dumped into GP. They do not know if these fish were native to GP or if they where destined to continue ue up the south Santiam, but it's what they do. Anyway, the draw down was to help these smolt, but in doing this it killed hundreds of thousands of kokanee salmon, thousands upon thousands of bass, it wiped out spawning beds on the south santiam river, killed food for other fish on the lower dams and rivers and put untold amounts of silt an heavy metals that were once on the bottom of the lake I to the drinking water of three towns that were downstream. It decimated the fishing on the lake, and they plan on doing it again and again. There is no way to know if it will help the 4000 fish, but we know for a fact what it killed, and how it affected us.

I live in Idaho, home of the majority of the Snake River, and the activists are bold face lying. All one has to do is look at the salmon counts on the Columbia River, all the way to Lower Granite Dam which is on the Snake River, and hundreds of thousands have already passed through Bonneville Dam, and The Dalles Dam on the Columbia River on their way to assorted rivers and streams in the Northwest. And Several hundred thousands of those fish will make it to Idaho, through the Snake River, and the Salmon River, Clearwater River etc. There are literally hundreds of videos showing salmon and Steelhead passing through fish ladders and counting windows through the years, including this year. Over commercialized fishing is the worst hit on salmon populations, not hydroelectric dams. Activists must really want to live in the dark ages again. Such fools!!!

When I go salmon fishing in WA state: I drive several hours to my favorite fishing spot. I pay hundreds of dollars for travel/lodging/charter. I get on the boat and then drive another 1.5 hours to the fishing spot. Due to regulations, we are only allowed to keep a very specific species of salmon, and it must have been born in a hatchery (there are ways to tell). About 24 out of 25 salmon that we catch are born wild, and therefore we must throw them back. We spend hours doing this. With 4 anglers on the boat, we go home with 8 fish, and we throw about 100 back into the water. Once a salmon is thrown back, it is usually tired and/or wounded. There are sea lions everywhere, licking their chops. Almost every fish that we throw back gets eaten immediately by the sea lions. This is just one boat out of hundreds per week that go out. Fixing these ridiculous regulations would be a great place to start.

Thank you John for putting out this info out there. I live in the Columbia River Gorge Area and Indigenous/Native Tribes have numerous "sustenance" Salmon Fishing setups going on. The do so well they sell the Salmon in nearby towns. Way beyond the sustenance fishing as I understand it. If they can catch enough to sell excess, then clearly the Salmon are doing well. After the actions that totally ignored the needs of those affected by the recent Klamath River dam removals for still unknown(it could be over 5 years before it's actually determined to really help) Salmon population recoveries, it's insanity to even consider removing the Snake River Dams. To address the loss of ability of Barge Traffic to go up the Snake if the dams are removed, the environmental groups sight that railroads can be used instead BUT every time a train derails in the Columbia Gorge the same groups cry that the railroads MUST be removed from the Columbia Gorge. Regarding Electrical Production loss if the dams are removed, Wind Turbines are trotted out, covering thousands of acres of land and how many millions of dollars for construction/maintenance/ and into existing Power Grids? And dare I bring up decimated bird populations in other Wind Farms? If this happens, can the call for the removal of the Dams on the Columbia River be far behind?? I am seriously struggling trying to understand how huge 1.14 billion pounds of coal is. Any way you can post that in terms of volume if possible? At the very least, I can at least it imagine it being bigger then several houses, though I suspect that's a seriously low ball.
@TravisHartin3 ай бұрын
@@nerdicusdorkum2923 Here's a simple way to think about it: 1 billion lbs is about 500,000 tons. Regular dump trucks can carry up to about 20 tons. It'd take about 25,000 dump trucks to carry 1 billion lbs in one haul. So, imagine a line in traffic of about 25,000 dump trucks each with a full load of coal. This isn't a perfect example, but you get the idea. In terms of volume, a pound of water is about 16 fluid ounces. There are 128 fl oz. in 1 gallon. Large swimming pools can have about 20,000-30,000 gallons (some even more). 16 billion fl oz of water would fill hundreds of thousands of pools, depending on the size. In fact, I did a quick Google search and Sharon Lake (in MA) reportedly holds about 68 million gallons at roughly just under 400 acres. So, 1 billion lbs in volume is a lot of volume.

Amazing we're all watching it happen too. Other western nations like England have no 2a and thereforean excuse, but look at the Aurura Colorado apartment complexes taken over by Venezuelan gangs, and still no Americans using the 2a. Makes one wonder do people think the guns are going to shoot themselves?@@nopers369

Remove the dams without any plans to replace the lost electricity. They will need to burn more coal and gas to make up for the lost power. Wind and solar will never replace Coal and gas.
@ArminiusVicious2 ай бұрын
Those four dams barely produce enough power to run a small town for a day since they weren't designed for hydro.
@Dennis-p2l2 ай бұрын
@ArminiusVicious So just burn some more coal or gas to make up for the loss? Oh just put up more worthless windmills that don't end up paying for themselves especially without taxpayers bailouts.

You mean the left is. Because an inherent feature of leftism is that it's the position of low information and often disinformation. Left wingers are not grounded in reality.

Why can't these groups be sued for slander?

@alamogiftshop No, the environmentalist group should be sued for lying about claiming that the salmon population is near extinction. They are lying to raise money from those who blindly believe this propaganda. The organizations that should sue are the organizations these environmental groups are lying about. Expose them for the lying "dog faced pony soldiers" they are!😁

I've lived in Idaho all my life (41 years), Back in the 90's the runs WERE bad, but since the early 2000's the fish runs have been great.

There are fish ladders built-in these dams. The fish use the ladders to get to the spawning areas . Wind mills kill hundreds of thousands of birds every year.
