This really is a good pack. The best part is the frame. It is so much lighter than one would expect. Ive carried elk and coues deer in it with no issues.

Is some different between this and old type? I mean the frame. What is better choice? Thank you.

Hi Jan! Both models have a carbon fiber frame with the hybrid interior/exterior design, however the newest model has the external daisy chain with adjustable tool attach loops. You can view the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqTJZpmXqdB0mpY

What is the ideal weight to carry? I have read "light to medium" loads, but no pound ratings.

I have the terraframe 65, which uses the same frame as this one; I swear I read the frame can carry up to 150lbs.

There is no "ideal weight" to carry. The goal is always to get as light as one can while still having the essentials one needs. Ultralight backpackers can manage 2-6 day treks in somewhat minimalist style with pack weights in the 10-20lb range. These are the folks who cut handles from toothbrushes and are willing to sleep under a cuben fiber rain fly. The average (e.g. less masochistic) human with up to date gear but who wants a few more creature comforts than those ultralighters can get 2-6 day pack weights in the 20-40lb range if they are conservative but not necessarily spartan in their gear/food choices. But then there are those who are "working" in the back country.....hunters, trail workers, photographers, surveyors, soldiers etc. who have to pack not only for self sustainment but also their "work". This means extra gear and you'll find pack weights on those folks running up into the 50-90lb range. (ugh..not for the faint of heart). My impression was the Terraframe system was conceived when Dana saw a picture of a soldier, bent over, half dead on his feet, carrying a mortar base plate on the back of his already substantially heavy rucksack. I imagine, given that pedigree the Terraframe has its DNA and design philosophy squarely situated in the "heavy" load territory but nobody wants to carry 90lbs if they can avoid it. In that sense I imagine you could say it's over-engineered for "light" loads, can handle "medium" loads with ease, and is quite capable of carrying "heavy" loads for those who are either willing or find it necessary to suffer under them.

Have you been successful using this bag for carry on purposes too?

Thanks for asking! The dimensions of this pack are 28" x 15" x 13", which exceeds most carry-on requirements. However, carry-on requirements and restrictions vary by airline and flight. We would recommend checking with your specific airline before choosing a carry-on bag. Safe travels!

The Mystery Ranch 2-Day Assault (www.enwild.com/mystery-ranch-2-day-assault.html) has very similar dimensions to the pack you mentioned and is smaller than the Terraframe, at 21" x 12" x 11", however is still technically over the published carry on dimensions. The Scree 32 (www.enwild.com/mystery-ranch-mens-scree-32.html), at 22" x 11.5" x 9" would be closest to the published TSA dimensions, however again it's important to note that carry-on requirements and restrictions vary by airline and flight. We would recommend checking with your specific airline to be sure. Thanks again!
