Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

It's so interesting because this is the first album under the watchful eye of social media. I have never seen so many negative people "attack" Enya and her music. "It's too repetitive", "it's not your best work". As if they're the authority on her music. She's timeless, an inspiration, and her music has gotten me through the worst times I've ever had. I'm an artist. I did not persue my art for 30 years because I thought it was frivolous. Then I remembered how Enya is what got me through some of the darkest years of my life. Even before this wonderful song existed! One day, in mid life, I thought "if Enya's songs helped me so much, who's to say my art wouldn't help at least one person"? So I changed my career. It took a decade to do that, but I don't regret it.

You appreciate what is given and find joy in it without complaining, wanting more, or for something to be changed. The more I listen to this song, the better it gets; I believe it was a good choice for pre-release. The piano solo is masterful, Roma's lyrics poweful. "Every song is a journey" Yes exactly, well put! Perhaps if more people gave it a chance and listened a little closer, and not on the surface, they wouldn't be so bitter. Egad, what they must be like to be that way. Ok, so maybe Enya isn't for everyone, listen to something that inspires and uplifts you, not full of angst, anger and turmoil. For me, listening to Enya has helped lift me through some dark and troubled times and has continued to bring joy. Sometimes, there is something almost unearthly to her music, harkening back to a distant past. I can't explain it. Peace to you my friend!

I was sitting on my living room couple days ago and suddenly I heard a very beautiful melody from tv and had to turn my head to see what was it about. And then I heard a man saying "enya, dark sky island, new album" and I was in love right a way. Enya, a name I can't forget. I came to youtube to search her and found the beautiful melody again. It was this song. I have no idea who she is, where is she from or what is the thing with her but this song is absolutely amazing!
