In the 70's there was a children's educational show that came on every week day after Sesame Street called The Electric Company. Regular cast members on this show included Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno and others. At the start of each episode, right before the theme song you'd hear someone yell, "Hey you guys!!!"

When I was 4 years old, there were 3 movies I watched over and over again on VHS (recorded from TV): "The Goonies", "The Dark Crystal", and "Short Circuit". All 3 still hold a special place in my heart, but "The Goonies" and "The Dark Crystal" I find myself revisiting the most.

"Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket." Fun Fact: The novelization of the movie confirms that Chunk's parents actually do "adopt" Sloth, going so far as to throw him a Bar Mitzvah. Heartbreaking Fact: According to Sean Astin, he was allowed to keep the treasure map used in the film. Several years later his mother Patty Duke (an actress herself) discovered it, thought it was just a crinkled piece of paper, and threw it in the bin. Historical Fact: The Fratellis are loosely based off Ma Barker and the Barker-Karpis gang during the "public enemy era" of America crime history. While Ma Barker's leadership is in dispute, she was definitely an accomplish to the gang's many robberies and murders. Ma Barker and the gang met their end in a house off Lake Weir in Florida. You should read more about them. The Inferno Fact: One Eyed Willie's ship was 105 feet long and took 2-1/2 months to construct. It was modeled after Errol Flynn's ship in The Sea Hawk (1940). The sails required more than 7,000 sq. ft. of material, the largest measured 30 ft. by 60 ft. The cast was not allowed to see the pirate ship before the scene was shot, as director Richard Donner wanted to catch their genuine reactions at the size and scope of it. When they did see it, Josh Brolin was so surprised that he exclaimed "Holy shit!" without thinking. The scene had to be re-shot. When filming ended, some of the ship's rigging was recycled for the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" ship at Disneyland, which was being renovated at the time.

Loved your reaction to Sloth. He was kind and pure through and through. He would most likely have been institutionalized had Mama Fratelli not been a career criminal, and he likely would have been upon the Fratelli’s arrest, also. We don’t see Chunk discussing the matter with his parents, but it can be assumed he did, and if a judge awards them custody, Sloth will have had a beautiful rest of his life-perhaps even being included on several more Goonie adventures.

I would post a link to my Goonies t-shirts I've made (including the OG - Original Goonie), if I could. I even wrote a sequel for Goonies, which is about their kids going on the adventure. A shame that WB wouldn't take the script. I was talking with Robert Davi (the one who played Jake Fratelli) just the other day regarding my script. Maybe one day. Goonies never say die! Oh, and if you liked Goonies, be sure to check out The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and The Last Starfighter.

Thank you JL. This is exactly what I needed and this is why The Goonies is one of my top 3 of all time. Having one of the worst weeks, which is why I missed this Monday because I would have been there for this naturally being one of my favorites (both you and Goonies). The Goonies has always been the “comfort food” of movies. That movie you can pull out anytime, whether it’s a month, a year, 5 years or 10 years from now and still every aspect of it that made you fall in love with it from the very first time you saw it will make you laugh, smile, or cry but in the end it will brighten your day. Hell watching it through your eyes, made me forget about my issues for a short time and that’s the magic of this film for me. Definitely a film that has a lot of behind the scenes trivia I could talk about which may have been mentioned in the comments, which sadly I have not read through (sorry not in the proper mindset atm). Respect and Love to you, Blank, Co-Pilots and the E.O.M. Family!!

After it came out all the kids at elementary school starting making different types of adventure clubs. My club, (i was in 3rd grade) was the BeeBusters & we’d kill bees with sticks on the playground to protect everyone. We weren’t very good at it & got stung more smacking a bee down. The point i’m trying a make about these clubs/gangs was all these kids that didn’t have any friends (like Sloth) who were miss understood finally had a place they belonged too were accepted.

Update: I decided to look it up on KZbin. So 1) it was a giant OCTOPUS, not a squid. 2) The Goonies are unaware of it until it gets frisky with the other girl and pokes its head out of the water. And 3) the Goonies "defeat" it with the power of music, which causes it to swim-dance off into the metaphorical sunset.

Data being a particular favourite, but Chunk steals the show, he’s absolutely hilarious. I’ve seen interviews with him around that time and he is just as funny, that really is him on screen. The actor who played Data has just returned to acting after decades away in a film called Everything, Everywhere All At Once, and it is without a doubt one of the best films I’ve ever seen, and he is so damn good in it. You have a heart of gold my friend. Hearing you talk about judging sloth and watching you tear up when he and chunk have that moment.. I thought I was the only grown man who teared up at that

When I was a kid I was terrified of the old lady so it took me a long time to not think of it as a horror movie

"What's the Hardy boys?" The Hard Boys was a series of kids adventure books starring two boys, the titular Hardy Boys, who investigated crimes and mysteries. Kind of like a less comedic version of Scooby Doo.

@JL this was so wonderful to see you see what was a classic kids film for many of us who saw it between 10 and 14 as most of us did. Just amazing to see your reaction to a film so many of us loved.

You should see the actor who plays Chunk now. He lost all the weight and now has his own law firm. Look him up...and back in the 80s an RV was any vehicle that could drive on the street AND rough terrain (like an all-terrain vehicle). Which is why you see mama throw the vehicle into 4-wheel drive in the beginning to drive on the mud and sand on the beach. RV stood for "recreational vehicle"...which it would be if you took it on the mud or snow. For fun (recreation). Now an RV is just what it is now. A motor home. Any vehicle that can travel on any type of land is now just called a 4-wheel drive.

The Hardy Boys were a series of books designed for kids as teenage detectives. Also, Nancy Drew. They were made in the 50's or 60's but later turned into TV shows

So glad to see you react to this one, it's up there with The Sandlot for me as my favorite movies from my childhood. After Sloth gave Chunk a kiss Chunk said "You smell like Phys Ed" meaning gym class so yeah Sloth was definitely pretty ripe, plus Chunk can smell ice cream thru a freezer so he's got that super 👃

After hearing how Sloth jump scared you as a child and gave you nightmares (understandable under your circumstances), I'm so happy to see your reaction @ 40:00 calling him the GOAT. Sloth has the best character arch in the movie for sure ❤

And JJ Abrams stole the Doubloon reference scene to use in Rise of Skywalker. I swear that man has the biggest obsessive crush on Spielberg he wants to be in his skin.

The director was Richard Donner, who just did Superman right before this, so he got that fun reference in here.

Whatever you were thinking when they mentioned One Eyed Willy, you're not alone. I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched this movie .. and I got a hunch that was low-key the intention. 😂
