This movie felt like a love letter towards Romero in some ways. It's an amazing genre mashup that does everything just so well. It's hard for me to really think of any true flaws the movie has.

I love when they're in the bar after the breakup the entire movie is laid out. "Start with a bloody mary...come back here" (the first zombie is bloody and named Mary)...and it ends up with them back at the Winchester.

12:05 in the UK pubs are public houses where you a allowed to drink during opening hours, but after closing no one can enter, so the tradition of the "lock in" is where selected patrons are allowed to continue drinking after hours but no new patrons can enter and once you leave that's it. The owner literally locks the doors and closes the pub, That's why the barman said "we're closed" even though the 'regulars' are still inside drinking.

When Shaun wakes up on the first day of the outbreak and you ask how he can walk past all the carnage, you touched on the whole point of modern zombie films. They are a social commentary piece about how we are mindless and walk past each other and consume ourselves. George Romero took this to another level when he had “Dawn of the Dead” take place in a mall- suggesting we are all mindless consumers just eating ourselves into oblivion.

Romero, creator of the movies to which this movie pays homage and lampoons, was so impressed with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's work that he asked them to cameo in Land Of The Dead (2005) as zombies. Spaced Background Fact: Many of the zombie extras are fans of Spaced (1999), which also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and was also directed by Edgar Wright. They were recruited through the Spaced Out fan website. All of the newsreaders and television presenters are real people portraying themselves. Multiverse Sequel Fact: Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright considered a sequel that would replace zombies with another monster, but decided against it, as they were pleased with this movie as a stand-alone product, and thought too many characters died to continue the story. The proposed title idea "From Dusk Till Shaun" did have an afterlife as a mocked up poster that can be seen in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018).

Fun fact: Diane (David's girlfriend) survived that horde of zombies. In a special feature on the dvd called Tales of Survival, we learn how Shaun escaped the horde and got to the bar, how Shaun found zombie Ed, and of course how Diane survived.

My favorite gag is when Phillip turns off the radio despite being a zombie. Also, I’m a huge fan of subtle acting choices, and the way Shaun says “No.” when asked if the coast is clear is just a sublime bit of acting IMO.

Another fun watch. I introduced my wife to the channel tonight watching this movie. I'm showing her JL's reaction to The Thing now. Shaun is a movie that the more you watch it you pick up hints of what's going to happen. Now that you watched this Paul would be a good movie to watch from these two.

The funny thing is, in 2007's Run Fatboy Run, the actor playing David plays a completely different role; one who probably would have been Ed's best friend.

The guy who played David in this is in a great British show called Black Books, where he's an Irish bookstore owner in England, who stays drunk a lot and is cranky to everyone. That show is so ridiculous and hilarious. Maybe not one for the channel, but I'd recommend checking it out on your own. I first saw him in that and loved him, so it was weird seeing him be the character in this movie that I hated so much. I don't think there were many seasons, and British tv seasons are super short also, as in less episodes per season, but it's fun while it lasts.

Amanda, you're absolutely right. Seasons are only about six episodes in England, compared to 22-24 in the USA. I'm glad you enjoyed Black Books. My favourite episode is when Manny leaves to work at the fancy bookshop next door, with Simon Pegg (Shaun in Shaun of the Dead) playing his smarmy boss. Also, if you haven't seen it, I recommend another British show called Spaced, again with Simon Pegg. It's funny and well-written, with only two seasons, 12 episodes.

Early on they did a shot-by-shot remake of Shaun walking to the store, once normally and once with zombies. Very well done. Then in the Winchester when they were shooting the zombies it was a shot-by-shot remake of the game they were playing earlier, with the same turns and the same dialog.

The Cornetto Trilogy is one of my favourite trilogies ever in movies. Though they're not linked storywise, just via actors and crew. Shaun of the Dead is stellar, I can't stop praising the movie and it's my 3RD FAVOURITE out of the three. My absolute favourite is Hot Fuzz, and my 2nd favourite is World's End, and I think it's extremely underrated. People don't talk about it a lot. Each of these movies get better the 2nd time you watch it because there are things going on ALL the time in both the foreground and background. The best thing about these movies is that even though they're comedies, the characters feel real. You can sympathize with them. When it's time for a dramatic or emotional moment they do it just as well as the comedic moments. Shaun shooting his mom is a very serious, well acted moment.

Philip is played by acclaimed British actor Bill Nighy. Which leads me to recommend seeing him (along with Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, and Zooey Deschanel) in the sci-fi comedy "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" (if you haven't reacted to that one yet)

I see a lot of people react to 28 Days, Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead, but no one ever does the other zombie movie, Dawn of the Dead (2004) with Ving Rhames. I remember when I went and saw that in the theater and thought that it wasn’t going to scare me. Then you see those hyper moving zombies for the first time, and it hits you like a truck. That was an intense spin on the zombie genre.

I am glad that you asked about what game they are both playing on and off throughout the movie it's a old PS2/GameCube game called Timesplitters but they are playing Timesplitters 2 it's a very underrated video game that I grew up on before ever seeing Shaun of the dead so it was very exciting to hear exactly what game they were playing actually a lot of people don't know of the game

Slow zombies kill because they are everywhere. One or two are easy to kill or run away from. However they never get tired and there is always more. Eventually you have to stop somewhere, then they surround you, and you are trapped. To me slow zombies are the only real zombies. Zombies are not meant to be fast and kill like monsters in a slasher movie. They are more like a natural disaster. They are the backdrop to everything else going on, one mistake and they kill you.

As a horror movie buff, this is one of the funniest damn movies of all time! You should continue the entire cornetto trilogy ( Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End). 'PAUL' is another great movie with both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
