@@g4fly4ever8 Oh I don’t doubt that’s the reasoning for the original redesign; my issue is how they handled presenting primaris as a clear upgrade from FB while desiccating the latters ruleset. It would’ve honestly gone over better with SM players if they just ripped the bandaid off at the beginning of 8th and did what they’re just doing now with FB. Segregating them only bred contempt and proved not every lore decision makes absolute 1:1 conversion sense in the game itself.

GW shot themselves in the foot with how they handled Primaris marines. They didn't need a whole new "type" of space marine in order to justify the release of larger marine sculpts; CSM got their truescale sculpts without any lore "justification." All GW had to do was release truescale versions of the firstborn kits and call it a day; people would have cycled in the new stuff into their collection over time, with only the most hardcore holdouts refusing to buy any new models on principle.

Agreed; I also believe that the squad organization does a disservice to other armies. When we started playing, my friend had an army with squads of all plasma squad, all missile launcher squad, all CC/pistol squad, all sniper squad, and hover tanks... it was called ELDAR. He had to deploy and play very carefully because his units were superior at a specific role but vulnerable when out of position, compared to my marines which were good in all positions but not superior at any one thing. Primaris invalidates Eldar and only contributes to the 'customers only buy marines so we're only going to make marines' problem.

Disagree to be honest I think there are a lot of primaris units that are just cooler than the old stuff. Though they 100% didn't need to do primaris tanks, just add new tank designs. Particularly the Gravis and Phobos units I think just look cool, and have some cool rules/roles that never existed in SM armies before. I'm fine with the Primaris stuff but also think they could have just updated some kits into primaris scale without getting rid of them, like Sternguard or terminators, and then just use the old rules and people who have the old models can just use them. Though this is likely to happen with scouts and assault marines. I also don't really see why Dreadnoughts need to go legends, I mean they are literally very old space marines so it makes sense lore wise there would be older designs still kicking about in chapters. The main issue was separating them so much whereas they have now blurred the lines on that but are still sending stuff to legends which is odd.

As someone who only recently got back into 40k after last playing in 3rd edition, I decided to build a firstborn army whose theme was that they'd been mostly isolated from the Imperium for thousands of years due to warp storms cutting them off. Twice in quick succession GW has sideblinded me with putting units into legends, first with the HH legends decision and now with this. Both time I was initially angry and saddened all at once, but now I've decided that I'm just going to run everything in my army as it is. Yes, it means I'm running a number of legends units - my sicaran venetor, librarian which shouldn't be legend anyway, my bikes - but I'm a lot happier now that I'm not hacking at the theme of my chapter for the sake of rules. In fact, I've decided to double-down on legends units by getting more things that use them. I'm making a relic razorback, for instance. This announcement tells me that they'd hoped Space Marines would win that contest instead of tyranids so they could announce the new primaris assault marines and scout units. When they didn't, they decided to just go ahead with retiring the models anyway.

My army took a hefty hit, being a 85% first born blood angels army, but what really grinds my gears about the way they did this was the fact they knew this was in their plan as they clearly stopped producing those kits months before, with most being sold out well before the announcement was made. So for example, I have been planning to grab some ironclads, attack bikes, and scout bikes - not even for playing, just as a collector since I have so many first born units they were the few I had yet to collect, and had been holding off as they were fairly cheap and available everywhere and instead would buy some newer kits with the money I had to burn. Now with no stock for a month before, or any WARNING from GW the second hand market dried up near instantly with the announcement, leading the prices on the few kits left sky rocketing. Scout Bike kit for 80$ (if you're lucky!)+, you kidding me!? If they actually RESPECTED players and collectors they would at least have offered ONE last MTO run before closing such a door regarding classic units, or even just a heads up BEFORE the stock they knew was almost gone, was gone. Just more disrespect by GW.

If you get the Forgeworld Horus Heresy Outrider bikes, they come with the scout biker sprue because parts from that sprue are integral to the construction of the Heresy era bikes.

The only saving grace is that i think GW will try to erase or not introduce a new "primaris" keyworded unit. My hopes were that they would erase Primaris completely and just call every thing "space marine" or "astartes".

I think I’ve finally figured out why I love regular Space Marines and their older miniatures so much more than any of the new ones. Dawn of War. The older models look like they are fighting in that game rather than doing super specific poses to look cool. Basically, the older sculpts look like they’re fighting or patrolling, while the newer models are just trying too hard to be “cool”.

I don't play 40k but i love working with small scale stuff for kit or trashbashing, and i really wanted to try and work with some 40k models so i obtained my first kit of miniatures (Primaris Reiver) recently. I intended to follow the manual but i haven't made any of them in their suggested out of the box pose. In my opinion most of the models seem to try to do dynamic poses but there's a need to have them look overly heroic as well which makes them look pretty static as a result. There's a weird lack of weight, speed and ferocity that you'd expect to see in any unit during combat, it looks like they're just training casually and there's no pressure behind it. It's probably lore accurate for most of these units to be unflinching and badass but if each and every one shares that trait it just starts to look kinda dull

13:25 the thing with TWIN-LINKED being re-roll wounds and not hits is probably because there are TWIN-LINKED weapons that don't need to hit, like Flamers. Every weapon needs to roll a wound roll (assuming no LETHAL HITS), but not every weapon needs to roll a hit roll.

I played against a guy last year. I was Necrons, he was blood angels. We did a 1000 point game and he ran 12 scout bikes all with grenade launchers or something. It was cool seeing those models for the first time. I hate they are getting rid of models.

I'm not really sad to see any of these go, but the Land Speeder has me a little worried. If GW is going to force a complete transition to (the much larger and very different) Primaris version of the Land Speeder, I'm afraid for the future of the Rhino. The Rhino/Predator/Vindicator chassis is ICONIC for 40k, and I reaaaaally hope GW doesn't make it go away. It'd be super awkward if the imperium's most recognizable tank could no longer be taken by the faction it was designed for lol

I'm both sad and happy this happened, sad that these models left the range especially since some are so recent, buuuut I'm happy that they're debloating the main marine range (wish it happened at the start of the edition), just worried they're gonna nuke Blood Angels more unique units since we don't really have any unique/interesting Primaris versions

The problem with debloating the range is that a lot of the index card bloat comes from the sheer number of primaris units that are just weapon swaps. I wish they'd of gone with the devastator way of doing things and just had the different weapon configurations be options for all the models in a single primaris unit type instead.

I reckon we're just gonna see Primaris Sanguinary Guard and Jump assault Death Company, but they'll just make them interchangeable with the old kits and all use the same datasheet. The only issue is whether they still get all the same weapon options - I mean Sanguinary Guard are already pretty boring for weapons but Death Company can currently do all thunder hammers or all power fists with inferno pistols so it'll suck if they remove those options.

I have a lovely painted scout biker squad I used to run often. Biggest RIP is the Thunderfire cannon. It's been punching above its weight and winning me games since 5th ed. It's a full blown techmarine with all the trimmings PLUS a massive mortar. Two weeks ago my cannon got charged by a Terminator Captain and came out on top

I think the firestrike servo turret is meant to be the replacement for the thunderfire turret given it's a (mostly) stationary turret operated by a techmarine/adept. I am sad to see it go though since it's really the only unit I was actually interested in getting before it was discontinued. However at the same time I understand why they're axing it given it's a finecast model, and since 8th edition the only time people really seem to take it is when indirect fire becomes busted. I remember the days of the three thunderfire, three RE, and a chapter master on a landing pad.

Watching this helped me figure out the plastic sprues that are in the FW Red Scorpions Librarian kit I have, its the Command Squad. More of a 30k guy but like the Red Scorpions and I grabbed this kit on last chance to buy and really like the plastic bits in the kit as well. Some of these squads really hurts budget Horus Heresy. Assault squads in particular don't have a plastic kit, so mixing some older armor mark bits into the 40k box was kind of your best option unless you want to leave GW, which sucks. The command squad was also such a versatile kit for converting various different characters.

I do understand getting rid of older sculpts like the bikes and the scouts but it's still strange to see so many other unit go in one fell swoop. It seems they want to keep atleast the most basic first born marines around to justify their inclusion in the novels. The scouts will most likely get a resculpt soon since the Black Templars already got theirs and they look much nicer.

I've just been thinking of rebasing old space marines and using them as proxies. Tactical marines are intecessors, combi weapons go into sterguard squads, flamers go into infernus, etc. Rebase old bikes as outriders or invader atvs, etc.

I ran scout bikes as a meme in my 10th company crusade and they were sweet! They shoot 4 bolter shots, 2 shotgun shots + sergeant weapon (mine had a storm bolter) Then they have pistols and knives for being in melee! That's 20 bolter shots for a squad of 3 followed by 10 melee for cheap!

I never had scout bikers, but I liked the idea of them in 7th edition where you could just lay mines in buildings and then all of a sudden when your enemy thinks he is secuting an objective he gets hit

Well, since i just play casual, guess ill remain in 9e. removing firstborn to replace them for primaris its an insult since they started with that idea. The "Firstborn", in Mark VII Power Armour its not just a nameless soldier... its an ICON, and the true face of Warhammer 40000. You can't erase it from the LOTS of art, you can't erase it from LOTS of books. Its the TRUE ADEPTUS ASTARTES. Same for the Dreadnoughts... they are relics, sacred and glorious tombs... Redemptors, and its variants... Frakk...they are just metal boxes. There is no more grim, nor more darkness...just another war in the future. GG, have fun...

One of the things I liked about the firstborn kits of yore was that there was “individuality”, the different armor styles made it seem like a group of combined battle brothers from across a century or three. The primaris stuff just feels too uniform when I look at it below the squad level. I get the look, but it takes away part of the story for me.

I have been wanting a Company Command since i started, mostly just because i think its a great Firstborn starter unit for an HQ and some good characters (at least in 9th), now as a complete squad its even better. I do hope they dont get rid of my Deathwing Command Squad, i love running it currently: reviving a model each turn, adding one to advance/charge rolls and adding one to OC. I love it moreso than 3 individual characters like 9th.

Interestingly, I remember when those scout bikes came out, I loved them but never actually had a decent use for them. They had a fairly unique weapon loadout and never really appeared to have a specific use. Shame they're going, but also, scouts in general have needed a better kit for literal decades, I hope it's the case.

For the scout bike squad, I bought them with full intentions of making my own Imperial Guard Rough Riders purely with a upper body swap and light modifications elsewhere (forward facing bolters were replaced with a lance made from something or other) Only got as far as making one though.

Thanks for the video. I have a 3-model squadron of scout bikes, but not the kit pictured above. My scout bikes are so old that the kit is the same marine bike kit with 3 metal scout riders included in the box.

Also wanted to add, as they move away from classic marines, the threat of discontinuing the Rhino & Razorback (since primaris can't utilize them) and the Predator (logically since they use the same chassis) makes me sad... in my mind those 3 vehicles are critical for the identity of army.

The biggest thing that irritates me with this is that when the index came out, we thought things were safe. I was even thinking about buying some SCOUTS because the snipers looked pretty good this time around. Luckily I refrained and, wouldn't you know, they get the axe. If I had actually bought them I'd be downright furious. Also, I use a lot of Attack Bikes and Landspeeders. I'm NOT switching to using ATV's because those things look outright dumb.

I was able to snag the command squad and techmarine w/ servitors at the standard 15% off before everything was bought by scalpers. Converting everything to primaris scale, and will use the command squad as characters down the line. That finecast was a pain to cut up but im stocked to finally have a techmarine, and the servitors were practically free compared to the character model prices.

I just remember the golden rule - you don't have to do what GW says. I remember 8th ed. working pretty good, and my games group has just about got the hang of army building for 9th. We are looking at 10th, sure, but I am almost certain to house-rule 9th's psychic system and phase into 10th (the psychic system wasn't broke - why did GW take it out?). 40k (and other wargames for that matter) can be what you want it to be. If you have these units, use them as per the current Indexes, or maybe play the last edition. Commiserations to the tournament players, I guess.

There was a point where I would have loved to get a couple of the Thunderfire Cannons for Ork conversion purposes, but while I learned that they were a mostly resin kit that idea was quickly scrapped. Maybe we'll get lucky and a *full plastic* replacement for it will come out in the next few years, but I'm not holding my breath.

I bought a dev squad box a space marine adventures box, with a razorback kit, so I could field a dev squad with lazerback, or swap out a turret and field a las/plas tactical squad plus whirlwind. I created my own chapter which is all Primaris, but this way when I feel like painting something different (Imperial Fist, Blood Angels, etc) I can just do up one of the firstborns and add him to the Penance Squad of disgraced marines from other Chapers on loan until they redeem themselves.

The stalker and hunter were made purely because of the dominance of flyers in 5th and 6th edition where marines had no anti aircraft option. They were a blatant stop gap because GW has always had a problem with balancing codexes.

If you think about it twice the dmg if you hit makes more sense for two guns that are linked together. if i hit i hit with both of them but if i miss i miss with both of them. rerolling to hit would probably be an improved targeter

I love using Scouts and Scout Bikes in my White Scars army, along with Bikes and Attack Bikes as well. More so in 9th when Chapters still had abilities to allow them to feek different rather than in 10th, but I still plan to use them in my 10th list if I ever finish unpacking from this move. I suppose I'l miss them if I ever actually play in a tourney, but I prefer more casual crusade play myself. I do hope for a primaris upgrade to them all though.

Again, literally in the announcement article, they straight up tell us that we can and should simply use any models we have in place of one of the many analogous remaining units. . As for aesthetics, old models are literally a nightmare. Assembling them is a painful slog with little to no direction, the details are blobby and indistinct, the models look like a mass of identical copy pasted figurines. The new models are a joy to assemble and paint, the details are crisp, and they actually look like living things, not toys. Everyone's preferences are valid, I just can't wrap my head around how "this thing looks too good and realistic" is a bad thing.

My plan for when all firstbourn are completely destroyed is to just proxy a bunch of HH stuff. The heavy upgrade kit for the devastators, all the demios pattern stuff, and with the new beakie jump packers, my firstbourn successors aren’t going anywhere.

Just got into warhammer when 10th edition was announced and me and a friend decided to play. I had most my army done just needed a few points. Saw some scouts snipers on sale at my local hobby store that were already primed for 15. Looked into them saw that they were actually pretty good so I got them and spent several days painting them. Now I have to look for another squad to fill those boys in.
