Nice comparison. The R has a lovely image in crop mode, especially with the Sigma 18-35, and the drop in ND filter really makes it competitive against the C100. Then there’s the softer full frame mode, which is suitable for vlogging. When you consider that it also contains 5D benefits like amazing stills and a low-profile size, the R really offers amazing value.

Good review -I bought a C100 M2 in 2019 after using one at work for 4 years. I was just tired of my personal work shooting video with a DSLR. The C100 shows it's age, but it's still a terrific workhorse that produces consistent good results. Layout of controls, built in ND filters and good audio is great. I will eventually take the 4K leap, but for my work (mostly for web), and owning a bunch or Canon glass, I have no regrets buying the C100.

Sutterjack yep tbh there are some decent deals out there on the c100 at the moment and likely to continue as everyone gets all tingly about the new cam features like 8k and 12k that no one will ever use. For a commercially minded person the c100 has to be seen as a big win right now due to its real reliability and workhorse status.

Great comparison. It's kind of hard to choose a C100 over an R Canon, but this video shows how good the C100 looks. I prefered its more natural look in most shots.

Hello! great review! Would you use these cameras together? The R6 as a B camera? How is the color matching considering they both have CLog? thanks!

Thanks for the comparison, just what I was looking for. I have the EOSR but was looking at getting the c100 mark ii and selling the EOSR as it lacks so many video features (I shoot weddings) I was curious about the 1080p image comparison as I shoot and deliver in HD not 4K, now your comparison didn't really compare apples with apples, as you compared the 4k of the EOSR with the 1080p of the c100 mark ii 1080pIf you could tell me your thoughts on 1080p v 1080p this would really help! From what i seen already I would guess the 1080p should be pretty similar. Thanks again!

Cool video, just want to point out. If you're going to show comparisons, you have to crop the exact same area. Showing 2 opposite halves doesn't reflect the differences well.

So I bought a c100 mark ii in 2019. But I'm not very pleased with the stabilisation of the camera + I love photography as well. So I'm thinking about selling my c100 to buy a canon eos r so I can make stills as well and use it in an affordable gimbal. What would you do?
@AlwaysCinematic4 жыл бұрын
Personally I'd wait a month for the R6 and R5 to be released then I'd have look at them. Whilst the C100 ii works very well for me, I do have a MOVI M5 and I don't do any photography. Sounds like the R5 could be the perfect camera for you.

Native Iso of the c100 MKII is 850 Iso and 100 for the EOS R, dunny which ones he used in the video though

I can only have one, I do corporate/freelance work currently with a Sony a6300. Which one do I buy? I already own the Sigma 18-35 1.8 and the sigma 50-100 1.8
@johnfrum96764 жыл бұрын
Simple. You buy the C100ii. You already have the toy. Now get the tool. What do your corporate clients think when you pull that a6300 out of your purse?
@orlando96664 жыл бұрын
John Frum They think nothing as I have rigged the a6300 in a cage with top handle/side handles plus monitor. Not to mention large lenses. Much larger than a stock Canon eos R There are obvious image improvements on the Canon eos r vs the c100, much better bitrate for pushing the image. Main reasons for getting the c100 are usability/functionality.
@AlwaysCinematic4 жыл бұрын
Unless you’re doing really high end corporate I’d personally go for the C100 ii, I find corporate clients are much more interested in an expensive looking camera than a 4K image. With all the extra features of the C100 your life will be much easier as well.

Always Cinematic try adding a SpiderPro hand strap to the R for the feel of that C100 grip. Adding a cage gives the R a cinecam heft and stability too.

Did you test the rolling shutter on both (with EOS R in both 4k and 1080p)?
@johnfrum96764 жыл бұрын
I can tell you from hands on experience, the R is ridiculously bad with rolling shutter. C100ii and C300 are great (better than Sony Fs5 and Fs7)
@PTUsher4 жыл бұрын
John Frum very true, but I’ve found that rolling shutter disappears from the R using a wider lens like the Sigma 18-35. Adding heft with a cage also helps smooth out any jello jitters

So I'm debating on this the EOS R and the C100 mk II. I mainly shoot Weddings and a few BTS videos. I'm currently shooting on a Sony Fs5 and Sony a7sii, and I'm trying to sell it get either the EOS R and C100 mk II. I'm after quality and versatility, and both have great features. Which would be best for what I do?
@AlwaysCinematic5 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what value more; 4k, small form factor, full frame FullHD or more use ability features such as built in ND filters, XLR ports, much better physical controls. At the end of the day I’d say that if you want 4k or a really small camera go for the EOS R, but if those aren’t a priority then go for the C100 my ii. I should say that as I like to keep up with all the latest Canon rumors, there is a chance of some more EOS R series cameras coming out, and a replacement for the C100 my ii. None of that may happen but if you’re not looking to buy anything for a months then it might be worth holding off until NAB in April when I imagine some new Canon cameras will be coming out.
@jmsdfilms5 жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysCinematic Right. I'll probably hold off until the next Canon launch. After thinking about it, though. I might go to the Cinema line since I own the Sony Fs5. Thank you, man!

Recently watched a wedding video clip shot with C100 II. Not impressed at all. I though, an EOS R would give noticeably better image quality. I guess I was wrong. I was surprised, that C100 II, has less noise than a modern FF camera.
@mistaspeedy2 жыл бұрын
When you shoot 4k video with the EOS R, you are only using a small crop of the sensor. The C100 mark ii sensor is bigger than the EOS R 1.78x crop in 4K mode.

I love my C100 mk2 with a Sigma 18-35mmmm f1.8!! I just got also a Canon 90D and now I have a real 2 camera production team...really good...I tried the Sony a6400 with a Sigma 16mmf1.4 and it's really good but I like how much easier the 90D is to use and to match the footage to the C100 mk2...I do need 4k sometimes-rarely so I will use the 90D no problem but for 1080p I'm covered. The EOS R looks good, but I went with the 90D instead...who knows later. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5uumXeNes6ghpI
@AlwaysCinematic4 жыл бұрын
That’s a nice combination! Have you got one of the third party log profiles on the 90d?
@TheFandangovideoguy4 жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysCinematic I used to have the Canon 70D before and I had cinestyle loaded. It was nice but I was creating my work than I needed to do! I don't do narrative work -mostly lifestyle videos such as weddings and grading the cinestyle footage was time consuming and I'm not convinced that it looked that great. I'm not a technical person but I read that you can't really grade 8bit video too much, so I decided to adjust the neutral profile-lower contrast etc-the footage was acceptable but never as good as the C100 mk2 using wide DR but that's to be expected. So...I got th 90D and the 1080p footage is better than the 70D footage for sure. The 4k is good (but is not as good as the 4k footage I got with a friends a7iii and my a6400) and I decided not to install cinestyle but to adjust a profile and make it usable. So far is ok. Once this crisis is over I will learn how to use Clog with the Canon c100 and see if I can match the 90D better with the C100...the EOS R looks amazing for sure. I decided to get the 90D because I had tons of lenses for the 70D. I love Canon!

@ Erick Perdomo. I am currently buying my first camera and deciding between the canon c100 mkii and the 90D. How do they both compare for you? Which one do u think is best for a novice filmmaker wanting to make high quality shorts?
@erickperdomo2774 жыл бұрын
@@ladygigi9097 hey hey...I bought the C100 mk2 a while back and the quality in 1080p is really good. Low light (with a lens like the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8) is really good. And It is a cinema camera with lots of controls-however it needs good stabilizers like tripods etc and it may be TOO heavy to use with something like a Ronin S even with a dual handle...I got the 90D because I needed a B camera for some interviews and in 1080p the 90D is good but NOT in the same league as the C100 mk2. I have shot 4K both cropped and uncropped with the 90D and when you downrez to 1080p it looks really really good but i soon realize that shooting in 4k was a pain in the neck! aye...I need one of the latest imacs to edit it properly I guess- but you know, 4k is the latest craze and soon 8k!! gosh...the truth is that for my clients 1080p is just fine and for that I'm covered with the C100 mk2 and the Canon 90D. If you think you need 4k RIGHT Now then the 90D will be the one. With some good lenses you are set. But no C log or zebra stripes-it has a sort of focus peak but not much else. Just basic picture profiles. if you don't need 4K and want a real entry level cinema camera then the C100mk2 is great. I got the 90D also because I already had tons of Canon lenses. I also bought (I went overboard and my pocket suffered a bit!) a Sony a6400 with a Sigma 16mm f1.4 and that is a great little camera-the 1080p is ok-the 4k is really detailed -much better than the 90D (but I like the colour I get out of the 90d better and it's a lot easier to shoot with)- and the A6400 also has zebra stripes/focus peak and S log but no headphone jack...I tried it a bit and I liked it but once the 90D came out..well...I couldnt resist. I shot a personal comparison video between the C100mk2, the 90D, the a6400 etc under the same lighting conditions etc so that I could evaluate their pic quality. Take a look if you are curious. I'm not a pro really but I tried to do my best. KZbin compresses videos a lot-they lose quality for sure but you'll get an idea kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZfYeZ-bqdqmg80 and here is one shot mostly with the 90D and a few shots with the insta one x kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZSui4mjg9mpfNU
