Perfect boat choice for a trip like this. The older years they were building robust boats and even they were small they could do big trips safely.Later they focus on speed but they lost the benefits of long keel. I hope you have fair winds and an unforgettable trip.

In addition to the Contessa, what other designs did you consider? The Albin-Vega looks like a contender also for a sub-$12000 goal I’ve set for myself. Webb Chiles on his Moore 24 of course did a circumnavigation no problem, but I am no Webb Chiles! Very inspiring, I myself have been fascinated with small boat voyages. A Montgomery 17 with minor modifications sailed SoCal to South Africa and that is another I am considering. Good luck on the new project.

When she said 'why don't you buy a boat... what she ,meant was: why don't you start a garage band? / you are an artist, Allen. It's in your heart and your going for it. The footage of Wave Rover going in the water was well documented. I agree with Scott Scott... it was a tense moment and I am glad I was there to see your baby go in safely. Kudos to the guys on the dock who took care of WR with those cables and the crane. When you come back from your five year mission, Captain Kirk, we'll start that garage band.

Safety wise its great. But show us ehen you have to get on deck for a sail change, or some place else on the deck. You're beginning to be predictable and boring, for is who would love to follow in your footsteps. Show us some of the hard parts of single handed sailing, but be safe doing it.
