For the vast majority using the metric system, it's a 6.50 m LOA (like a class mini) for 2.44 m max beam (European regulation for trailers is at 2.55) and a draft of 1.06 m. displacement between 1066 kg and 1338 kg. 21 square meters of canvas. Apologies if anyone else has mentioned this. Just wondered if you were aware of Roger Taylor, Mingming 1& Mingming 2 ? Your ideas and his are very similar i.e. junk rigged, no motor, he uses oars, remote or self steering controlled from the cabin, enclosed cabin, positive buoyancy the boat being foam filled fore and aft. It has the capacity to carry a few months of food. Mingming 2 was an Achilles 24 stripped and reconfigured to do all of the above. He accomplished a 4000 mile journey North to the Arctic region. Remarkable journey as was yours on Wave Rover.

This common sense is really what is needed. These double keels should be great in every respect! And the junk sails too! I would change three things: (1) I would remove all decorating walls inside, to always have access to wires, pipes and damages; (2) I would add elements of more reliable buoyancy since doors of compartments can break; (3) I would add VERY tall railing around, to make sure I stay on board. Plus concertina loops against pirates.

Like you I like simplicity and a small boat. Less stress on the rigging and lower repair costs if anything breaks However some amenities seem necessary. A Head, likely a compost toilet - no thru hulls. And a 2 burner gimballed alcohol stove. Also a sink for dishwashing, food prep etc plus a small sink in the Head. I do brush my teeth, wash hands and shave

@@RoversAdventure Thanks! It is. And very interesting that we have very different approaches. Yours is minimalistic, kind of "single purpose" and small. I've got full time living "as big as possible" and so on. :D Looking forward to see how that comes together. Are you planning to use CNC or something to manufacture the parts? There could be interest all over the world for "ready-to-go" kits for that thing. Maybe I could build one some day as well. Or at least cut parts for someone. 😆

On micro sailboats they put chine runners down each side. A chine runner is a horizontal skeg. It's like 4-6 inches wide, it usually 3-6 feet long or longer depending on the length of your boat. So you have to find the widest part of your boat. The center of the chine runner should be attached there. So if it's 4 ft long it should have 2 feet forward of the center & 2 ft in the rear. It should be about 18 to 24 inches below the water line. They are are very similar to rolling stabilizers on an oceanliner, except these don't move up , & down countering the rolling of the vessel. As the boat moves forward it keeps the boat from porpoising, & from heelin over as much.

Consider trucking it to Lake Nicaragua, then taking 'er by river to the Caribbean. The fee for moving it would be minimal, considering it would only be a short trip by truck, plus, you'd get to sail in Lake Nicaragua.... And, the trip down the river to the Caribbean would be idyllic.

I've often said, with tongue only partly in cheek, that the most seaworthy hull for a small ocean-going boat is a ping pong ball with an offset center of gravity. In other words light, structurally strong, always self-righting and buoyant. That's pretty much where you are going with this design. Given the design criteria and constraints, I think you've got it right. I'll look forward to following progress. Thank you for continuing the story.

Super and well thought ideas. I meet several guys circumnavigating in boats below 21 feet. The smallest was a Danish Chap in a small double ended, long keeled18 footer, he went around in that boat 2 1/2 times before he returned, now 75 years old with health issues.. but he claimed always safe sailing, and simply just wedges him self down in storms.. boat always behaved as a cork. Small and strong enough to be thrown a bit around, if condition dictates. I work with commercial ships, and truly believe it’s better the waves can move you, instead of pure impact, which I have seen wrecking even commercial wheelhouses on offshore ancorhandling boats. You can’t win over waves, so better join them :-0
