@@YarroMoto I am in North Carolina in the US. Originally from New England (Connecticut) Riding in NE was much nicer than riding in NC. Mountains in New Hampshire and scenery overall is much more epic. I may be biased since it will always be home to me. Not sure how acquainted you are with our geography, NC is maybe 150 miles south of Washington DC on the eastern seaboard. I like Virginia riding better than NC, Shenandoah Valley and some really nice national forests. Mountains down here in the south are more rugged, more numerous and you don't get that 'big sky' massive peak and valley feeling. From what I read the mtns here are a bit more akin to the Pyrenees while the alps are more akin to the rockies (out west) Taking a motorcycle tour of the alps in a group would be the experience of a lifetime for me. I should do it soon as I am 55 and starting to experience some health concerns. My father (who is 90) was in the post war occupation and never fails to mention Austria and Garmisch as the most beautiful places. How much is a 10-12 day tour of the alps including bike rental? Thanks for the videos. Seems like a lot of work to kit out the bike with multiple cameras and mic and then edit it all down. Thanks for your dedication to sharing it. (And making me green with envy! :-) )
@YarroMoto4 жыл бұрын
@@ggusta1 Hi Gregg, I’m pretty much a USA novice, as I’ve only been on a ski holiday to Breckenridge, Denver many years ago, plus a trip to an old school friend and his family in Connecticut about 10 years ago. Sounds like great riding where you are Gregg but guess we all suffer at times from the “grass is greener over there” syndrome. May I suggest that you sit down with your Dad and watch my ‘Garmisch Ride Around The Zugspitze Mountain’ ride and hopefully you’ll both get something from it! Regarding European touring, do it as soon as you can because health issues rarely seem to get better. It’s never going to be a cheap trip from the USA with the added cost of a flight. My recent Alps trip was done through the www.pemc.co.uk bike club I joined 25 years ago. That was a 13 night/11 hotels trip with 20 people. Some were already mates and rode together, some buddy up with others, or some prefer to ride solo. Obviously, you would always be made welcome and everyone looks after everyone else. The cost was £1,130 ($1,465approx) for a shared room with evening meals & breakfasts. Excluding cost of fuel & daytime meals, breakdown & health insurance etc. I looked into bike rental for someone else earlier in the year and it looked similar to USA daily rental costs dependant on choice of bike at $130-155 per day…probably cheaper deals could be researched, as any reasonable bike would do. In fact, might be cheaper and more financially beneficial, to buy/sell a bike to use! The Alps are wonderful but the Swiss & Austrian’s are now starting to limit speeds on certain Passes, plus they hand out speeding fines with an enthusiasm generally (the Italians still don’t seem to give a *?*t…”just enjoy yourself”). The Pyrenees are my preference, great roads, loads to ride & see, quiet roads, little police, great food etc etc… If you seriously decide to look into a trip 2021/2022, then check out the European trips on the club site www.pemc.co.uk/calendar.html as most of the trips listed will be forwarded into 2021 because of Covid. This way, someone does the hotel planning and you just turn up for the trip! Clicking on the trip links provide a detailed .pdf of the events. A mate and I have had to postpone our own fully researched and routed Sept20 trip for 16 people, starting with UK ferry to Northern Spain and 15 nights including ferries from UK, via the Pyrenees/Spain/Portugal/Picos mountains (similar hotel cost to Alps trip). So, this will probably be added into the PEMC list for 2021, if you’re interested. If you still need more inspiration, check out the following detailed guides that I compiled for the Mad or Nomad website: Alps - www.madornomad.com/the-ultimate-alps-motorcycle-route-guide/ Pyrenees - www.madornomad.com/the-ultimate-pyrenees-motorcycle-route-guide/ Drop me another note, if you decide to move forward with a trip and need any help Gregg. Good luck, Paul.

@@YarroMoto Do you remember the town in Connecticut that you went to? I'm originally from Glastonbury (we borrowed the name from somewhere :-) lol ) and it was a very nice little town near Hartford but has become overgrown with subdivisions where there used to be open land and farms.) I've never ridden out west. I did go on a loop (camping) from CT to Vermont through upstate new york, Pennsylvania Ohio Kentucky, and Virginia about 30 years ago. Fantastic. As to the Pyrenees vs alps, I have watched some videos, they both have a lot to offer especially on your vids in the Pyrenees the towns all look quieter with substantially less traffic which definitely pleases me. But whenever I watch the alps videos ... if I had to vote on one versus the other I would have to say alps (or Both! lol) maybe if the first trip is a smashing success the second trip would be to the Pyrenees. And sometimes that heat in Spain .... 40C? I'd rather ride at 40F! As for how serious I am, I am pretty sold on it but am in the process of selling my gf on the idea of riding with me day after day in unforgettable scenery and staying at nice hotels. I think I can convince her. :-) I am hoping to be able to make the trip 2021 but 2022 is also a possibility just because everything seems to be locked down so much that I would want to reserve the trip once I know everything is re-opened when I travel. So by my math two people ($1500X2) and rental ($1700-2000) would be somewhere between 4700 -5000USD plus whatever r/t airfare for 2 is to....well ... where would we fly into by the way? If you go look at what a 10 day trip to Yellowstone (not a motorcycle, just a tour) is that still seems like a good value. And Yellowstone's in my own country...2000 miles away but still... The last question is gear that I need, since getting back into cycling I go very casually and have little in the way of serious cycling gear. Leather jacket, helmet, gloves. I do have a heated jacket and gloves (gerbing) from when I rode back in the '90s and weighed about 50lbs less. I still use the jacket but can't zip it! works well enough. From what I see in the vids I would look forlorn and out of place in terms of apparel. There are tons of places to ride here. It's a huge freaking country. I would say you were in the right place when you went to Colorado, I love Colorado (I've gone dogsledding there twice), would also like to go to Big Sky country in Wyoming and Montana and Idaho. I;ve also ridden (by car) in New Mexico which some areas at the southern end of the mountain ranges there look like the Pyrenees. I love Durango, CO Semi-desert, less civilization but still enough.VERY Western Cowboy Marlboro man feeling. And then there's California and the entire west coast all the way up to Alaska and the Canadian Rockies.... Thanks for reading, Paul that took a minute!

Hi Steve, understand your thought but it would have fallen off somewhere anyway, or I would have had to stop bike one-handed and then put zip-pull in my pocket...decided THAT would be more dangerous. Keep watching anyway and keep commenting. Thanks, Paul.👍

Did you book the hotels in advance? Stunning scenery.

J R Hi JR, yes, the trip organiser pre-booked hotels to get a group discount rate...😎

Luxury travelling. I rather see "Itchy Boots" and her exploring trips. But a plus is that´s there is not to much "music", I like the sound of the engins much better! Anyway it´s welldone and wellcommented so keep on riding!

What a fantastic trip to the Alps that was. KZbin seems to have stopped sending notifications about new Comments to my videos and I'm pretty bad at checking for myself, so, if you have any questions that need an urgent reply, please also email YarroMoto@gmail.com

Great quality video. IMO would be further enhanced by less of the speeded up bits.

you never rough it who pays the hotel bills

TheMerlinshawk The PEMC motorcycle club in UK organised this trip, so they costed it out, depending if you were a room sharer or wanted a single. Everyone pays in full, weeks before the trip. Hotels get paid before we start trip, usually...we don’t do camping🤣

Brexit is such a shame

European touring hasn't been affected ver much by Brexit...it's Covid that will change our touring plans for some time into the future...maybe years IMO!
