Have a look at using refrigerated truck bodies instead of steel containers. The refrigerated bodies are made of 75mm foam core with plywood and plastic sheeting on the outer and inner surfaces. They are easy to keep cool in Summer and warm in Winter plus removing the refrigeration unit gives a huge mounting space for a large window, the walls are easy to cut openings in...I used a chainsaw for the wood/foam and a sabre saw for the lower aluminium panels. We built an algaeculture unit and clean Lab with office space in between using two 44ft bodies placed 3 meters apart side by side. At the time we paid about £7000 each for the containers...expensive but well worth the saving in insulation and labour costs.

I used to work for a construction company in Sydney, I can remember containers being turned into site offices for some of the jobs. While not the same climate, especially in summer, airflow was often a problem through the site offices. The problem was eventually solved, I think by a couple of extraction fans in the walls. Good luck and enjoy your latest project.

How about leaving a space on Sarinda's deck so that, when you want more accommodation, you just crane this on? 😉

I think you should tip it on its end, bob a door in, insert some dividing floors and have a firemans pole right down the middle. No stairs, just a pole. Short straw gets the top bedroom :-)

When I saw the inside of the container, I started remembering narrow boat layouts and decisions the owners had to make it into their own space. This will be another go to channel like Ship Happens. I hope you guys make a ton of money building this container out into a livable home.

Yes, you will need to add some columns and beams. The vertical compressive strength that allows containers to be stacked is provided mainly by the four corner columns, where the tie-down points are located. Edit: to prevent condensation problems, have **at least** two thirds of the thermal insulation on the **outside** of the steel.

I worked 21 years for a warehouse. A lot of that time unloading those containers. Often wondered what I could do with one. That end wall for me would be a wall to wall projector screen. I'm sure you know, but they turn in to an oven in the summer sun. Perhaps don't take up your roof space with solar panels, they could act as a canopy to the side giving some covered outdoor space, shade to windows, and be angled to get best performance, depending on its final resting place that is. It could also be your rain collection as well. Heat from the roof could possibly be used to warm water? I want one! Good luck.

Great project. I'm sure with your past creations it will be a success- along with Sarinda. I know this is both of your day jobs and I cringe to think how on earth you manage your energy levels and then have enough enthusiasm to work on your lovely ship. And run a family + home as well including shopping etc ....wow it's making me tired just thinking about it ( then I am 75 I was once as energetic -phew it seems so long ago)but I'm enjoying your videos along with many other fellow subscribers and I'd like to offer my grateful thanks for giving us the opportunity to share it all with you. But having said all that have you given a thought of a 'fire escape' toward the end of that long container? Love you all at Creation Campers and Ship Happens. ❤️

Tip: put a railway sleeper or two under each end. You will get pooling of water underneath which will cause cold and condensation inside. Raising it off the ground will help to prevent this. Enjoy!

When I designed a GoGo I found the Microsoft program Visio very handy and free though this is probably way old now. These days you can get tons of design programs which will even give you 3D renders. If you pick a simple one they are quiet intuitive so you are not spending hours learning how to use them. The thing is that they come with a library of "Parts" So easy example a toilet you just pick it and drop it in and the size is standard, similar with doors and you can set them so they do open and are not blocked.

My advice would have been to go with a hi-cube container. It gives you lots of room to run all your utilities like wiring and plumbing and ducting. With an acoustic tile drop ceiling you can access all of it anytime. Plus your piping won't freeze because the heat rises.

Nice, I’ll find pictures of University of Houston Houston engineering department did a container. Also a local canal boat powered with solar kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6HIY6F6m6Z6hZY Jon used lithium batteries! More storage for house side, not powering boat. Rain water check out HANNDYMAN near Tucson Arizona! Thermal transfer from Sun to walls reduces cooling and heating demands! Roof rain water stored under container in bag or bladder collection! Could be under deck as well! More suggestions is sheep’s wool for insulation for health reasons. Enjoy your humorous laughter and behavior! Oh, just remembered “IM NOT LOST I’M RVing just did a SPLIT A/C unit on an RV, yes not a boat! Best part went from roof top unit to split or 1640 watts to 460 watts and THEIR quiet!

Kind of no way to ask this without it sounding insulting but has Simon been diagnosed with some Mental Illness ADD or similar. He runs a business so obviously can plan take on projects and complete them, plus keep on top of paperwork etc. Except you have a massive project together already you have made great strides especially for 2 people working part time however you also know that it is barely begun and you have many years before you can sail Sarinda safely. To lose focus and take on another large project admittedly nothing like the size of your boat which easily will be ten or twenty times as much as the container, seems a strange choice to make unless Simon has access to cloning technology and he is going to knock out a dozen or so copies of himself to get the work done.
