I bought a DJI version of the GEPRC Crocodile Baby 5 as my first FPV drone. I have followed your FPV for beginners TO THE LETTER! I am only using the drone’s built in camera. Today I took my maiden flight and followed the steps in your episode 11. It was at the sports park off Trim road. I found it long before I found you. Today there was a light breeze with no one around. I don’t own a 3S battery as you recommended. I was using a 4S 1100mAh 60C battery. I got as far at the Sill Set 2, hover, land, disarm. I was not using the DJI goggles. I armed the drone then slowly applied some throttle. it lifted slightly above the landing pad and began to move backwards. I was not applying any pitch. I assume it was from the slight breeze. This is when the trouble started. I applied some forward pitch and mowed some grass. Hit the kill switch. I repeated this again but this time added a fraction more throttle and up the drone went, 15 feet easy and it was moving backward. I applied some forward pitch and the drone lost altitude so I tried to correct for that. I was moving the throttle and pitch and roll slightly and over corrected. Crashed. I tried and tried and tried and this is as far as I got. I bought in Angle mode it would be sort of like flying my Mini 2 but with out all the GPS help. Not even close. I have learned that the kill switch is my friend. How much of a difference will a 3S battery make. I am thinking about a LiPo 1300mAh 45’ish C rating Battery. I am hoping that this will make flying manageable. Will it slow things down considerably?
@CAPTAINDRONE7983 жыл бұрын
3S battery will make a big difference as the drone will have less power. Keep practicing (simulators are also a great idea). Everyone in the FPV hobby all began the same way and we all know that if you previously flew camera drones (like DJI Drones) you have an even harder hill to climb since you have to lose plenty of bad habits and train your hand eye coordination to be very quick.
@bellis70773 жыл бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I bought two LiPo 1300mAh 45C rating batteries and tried them today at Trim Road fields. What a difference from the 4S!!!!! I forgot to bring a couple of pylons to do you third exercise from Episode 11. I was able to fly for 10s of seconds in Angle mode before putting the drone into the ground. Near the end I was up to maybe a minute. What an amazing difference. Your suggestion worked. Thank you. I was flying VLOS today. I did not have the control I wanted but I was able to stay within the confines of one soccer field. I was amazed when using the YAW and roll together how fast the drone changed direction. Instantly. Only when I got close to trees or a soccer net and was not sure how close I was or the exact direction I was flying in did I hit the kill switch. In your review for the GEPRC Crocodile Baby 5 did you said it was tough. Except for a few grass clippings the drone showed no signs of any abuse. After using up one battery I was tired and called it a day. All smiles though. I have a long way to go but I see that with practice it will be doable. Thanks for all of your help.
@CAPTAINDRONE7983 жыл бұрын
@@bellis7077 Great to hear! It is very difficult to keep an FPV drone in a semi-hover position line of sight, so if you managed for a minute, you're doing great. Amazingly you may find flying with goggles even easier. If ever you had to Millennium and no one is on the jogging track, that is the place to practice with goggles (early in the morning is best when no one is around... I find people walk the track even when drones and RC planes are overhead which is strange). Put the drone on the track facing in a direction following the track. Put your goggles on and take off in angle mode and follow the track in the full loop... your brain/hands will find it easy as you have a target. This will build your skills and confidence.

I Finally made the jump into FPV, and every one of these points are absolutely gospel - from safety to not getting discouraged. If you're making the decision to join this hobby, then odds are your controller of choice will have a usb connection point to plug into a computer and use a sim! I love the sim! lol i have a love/hate relationship with my nazgul as it's a ZIPPPY sucker, but we're getting along :) Practice, practice, practice. I'm using the sim, got the nazgul (I only took it out once to ensure that it was working and could just hover, thats IT), and a mobula7 to zip around my yard with until i build up the confidence and skill to really put my 5" to good use. While i was at it, i got a second pair of goggles for my kids to ride along :) Oh...and if anyone is reading this whole thing, make sure you subscribe to Captain Drone and the other great and reputable drone folks out there (like JBardwell just to name ONE, your YT feed will take care of the rest). Awesome series, great job! I disagree on using Chanel search to set your channel though. Those things aren't reliable, half the time they find a neighboring channel, and it all looks good when the quad is 5 feet away but as soon as you get any distance you lose signal. Know what channel your vtx is on and set it manually in the goggles, it's the only way to be sure you're on the right channel

This way the motors are default DISARMED when you turn on the Radio.

I’m trying to learn on a moblite 7 . I know there’s no GPS hold for altitude, but why are these things so darn hard to keep going level while you’re flying them? Just a little tiny touch of the throttle and they rise up and then you have to give it the opposite and they come back down again it’s very hard to keep a constant level flight

In the FPV world there is no such thing as BEGINNER MODE. In drones like DJI Drones, Autel Drones, etc, which are CAMERA DRONES, those are all called BEGINNER Drones because zero skill is required from the pilot the drone does it all, which is perfect when you wish to film a non moving object or an object going in a straight line. For everything else you need to be able to fly like a BIRD, and only the FPV hobby permits this, which is one the pilot has FULL CONTROL of the drone. Practice makes perfect.

CAPTAIN DRONE Hi Steve, I’ve got a question for you. I’m trying to order the Emax Hawk Pro but I have 2 choices and I have no idea what these are. They say BNF or PnP. What do these mean and what should I order please?. Cheers bud. Andy in the uk.
@CAPTAINDRONE7984 жыл бұрын
@@monkeyfpv7866 If they are following the normal RC rules.... BNF means BIND AND FLY, which means you own a RADIO that is compatible with the receiver in the drone and just have to Bind it. PNP means PLUG and PLAY, which means you have to add a RECEIVER to the drone and then Bind it to your radio. So if you have a RADIOMASTER, TARANNIS or JUMPER T18 RADIO, you could go with BNF and watch episode 9 of the FPV FOR BEGINNERS series.... and select D8 vice D16 when you go to bind.

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you for the response, Captain! I ended up getting the iFlight Nazgul Evoque F5X 6S which means I am probably in over my head, but I will ease into it. Keep up the GREAT work!

@@JDubsPub you can tame it by running a 4s or 5s battery instead of a 6s

Captain How do you know when to return Home on a Racing Drone? does it beep when the battery getting low? Thanks
@CAPTAINDRONE7984 жыл бұрын
You can see the voltage in your display. In addition, that is why you set a timer on your remote.
@tesimpamonami91884 жыл бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Do you have a video about that timer? If not you should make one for people like me who have no idea.

Hi Captain Drone, Do you know how to Bind a new TinyHawk2 to the Emax Controler? Thanks
@CAPTAINDRONE7984 жыл бұрын
I do not because the EMAX controller is not a real controller but rather just a device in the kit (you'll never use it with anything else in the RC hobby). EMAX customer support should be able to guide you.

I was wondering If You Pilot In Thumbs the whole time ? Because I see some pilots use two fingers for The Sticks, Should you learn one or the other or start off thumb then the two fingers ?

I'm a THUMB guy because that is the way I play video games. Use whatever feels comfy to you.

I think some of the good whoop racers use a flight mode similar to angles mode where the roll axis is in angle mode, but the pitch axis is acro mode. Just a little fun fact I heard from Joshua B. ( :

My quad is tilting to left once armed (left props almost touching groung). Is that alright? If not, how to fix that?
@CAPTAINDRONE7982 жыл бұрын
If there is not much wrong with it physically, then go into betaflight, put it on a flat surface, and click on the option to calibrate the gyro (or words to that effect).

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Interesting, even in simulator raising the throttle it slightly hovers to left. Can it be problem with calibration of my radio transmitter?
@CAPTAINDRONE7982 жыл бұрын
@@brezovprut4431 Drifting in a sim is due to one of two things. You started the sim, and when it was time to calibrate your input device, it was less than perfect. Second possibility is you have WIND turning on in the sim.
