In this episode, Dr. Horne discusses his book, THE WHITE PACIFIC: U.S. IMPERIALISM & BLACK SLAVERY IN THE SOUTH SEAS AFTER THE CIVIL WAR (U of Hawaii P, 2007). Dr. Horne contextualizes his research on the Pacific region and the South Seas, discusses the often unacknowledged link between the Whaling Industry and Black Slavery or so-called "black birding" in the region, and goes o to discuss other topics including the role of the Hawaiian Kingdom and Japan, the U.S. overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani in the coup of 1893. As usual, Dr. Horne also comments on literature and film, contemporary politics and more. Finally, Dr. Horne discusses his latest research on the Pacific for an upcoming book on the COUNTER-REVOLUTION OF 1893. Dr. Horne closes our discussion with a detailed review of some of the major work on the Pacific that he's read.
AT THE VERY END of this episode you'll see a preview of Episode 14: Gerald Horne on Moscow, Haiti, Floyd Mayweather in Israel and Mike Tyson's return to the ring against KZbinr and Disney star Jake Paul (forthcoming on this channel very soon!)

Here in New Zealand we the Indigenous people of this country can attest to European colonization in the south Pacific and how religion was used to justify the exploitation of my people and the results are reflected today

In 1761 king George gave Saint Lucia it's independence through a treaty signed by four local chiefs. This is some thing those in a power won't talk about.

Australia was way worse, at least you got a treaty. From the early 1860s tens of thousands of Pacific Islanders were kidnapped and brought to work on Queensland sugar plantations.

@@vnorm2907 The Maori’s invaded the Chatham Islands, slaughtered 300 Morioris, and enslaved the rest. The Moriori population declined from 1,700 in 1835 to 100 in 1870.

@habibahq4272 my granddad in Alabama would mentor Black men on how to start a business. 1960s Alabama. One story i heard: a black man had accidently killed a kid with his car. He was going to be lynched. My granddather, get him out of town.

Strange. Professor Horne is a sought after expert on African geopolitics but doesn't seem to do much coverage on the genocide currently underway in Sudan and Congo. I wonder why.
@komiczar
@komiczar Ай бұрын
Horne has made several, if not a few, references to the current genocide related to Congo and Sudan, in various interviews. Perhaps his hands are full enough? For whatever age that you are, can you honestly say that you have dedicated yourself in some endeavor to the same extent as he, for the same comparative age in your own Life? Conscientiously conscious, accurately performed research takes copious amount of time, energy and effort. Consider thus along with all of the regular possible challenges and stresses that anyone can face in Living the Life. Also consider that this may also be an opportunity for you to do the work and contribute your expertise on the topic, either as a solo project, or in collaboration with Horne. We need more talented individuals as authors and resesrchers, contributing to the breadth and depth of knowledge.

@@komiczar I suspect it has something to do with Russia in Sudan and China in DRC-Congo. Professor Horne covering these genocides would draw damaging attention on BRICS nations and their abusive relationship with the continent.

@@komiczar Not sure if you saw the reports but 70,000 construction workers from India and China are headed to Yiz-Rye-EL to help rebuilt now that Palestinian workers are no long allowed in. How is this lend itself to the wonders of multipolarity.

Garland Nixon can't ring any circles around Prof. Horne about Pan Africanism on Sputnik Radio, nor his Saturday show on KPFK. I saw Ajamu Baraka speak powerfully about the African Genocide on a Zoom, I wrote notes. Ajamu's main thrust has been Central America though, Lordy knows they need help from the NAZI's the CIA groomed down there since WWII like Ukraine.
