Great content fellas. I feel like this episode goes hand in hand with the "How to play with confidence" episode. I'm almost 50 yrs old. So maybe i press to make up time on all the young players in my league. I play twice a week and practice on weekends. For me, I feel like I'm failing/slumping in the mental side of the game. While I can see progress with my ppr, (averaging closer to 6.5 per week vs 6 per week), I'm really struggling with playing against better guys, or putting extra pressure on myself for whatever reason. The other day, after the switcholio tournament was over, I decided to play in a pickup game with some of the guys that had also been eliminated. My first 5 rounds were 10,10,12, 9, 7. It's because there was no pressure since the game didn't matter. I feel like my game is coming around but I can't do it during competition. When I'm confident then I'm consistent. And when I'm consistent it makes me more confident. Anxiety and nerves always hit me hard during competition. I don't know how to get over my mental hump. Keep up the great work guys. Love the show.

Thanks for the comment Kevin. We deal with the exact same problem. The mental side of the game is difficult to conquer but the fact that you are aware of it and making an effort to get better is huge. The best time to plant a tree is ten years ago, the second best time is right now👊🏼

Just got through a three week slump but I’m back now! Slumps are frustrating and it’s hard to enjoy playing when slumping

Very useful as usual! Not that y’all need any advice whatsoever, but I regularly find myself listening and not understanding all of the lingo still. As a very ‘green’ beginner, I’d love to hear y’all break down some of the basic cornology dialogue. I can usually figure out the words based off of context but I figure y’all as teachers would be able to break it all down very well. Along with some of the words it also sounds like there is a lot of great websites and apps to help improve play. I would love a breakdown of what y’all would recommend starting off with to track practice. Keep it up y’all I always get excited when I get a notification that a new video is up!!!

Great suggestion. We will see if we can find enough to make an episode with and if not we can do a short Cornhole 101 video to address some of the dialogue we use in the community! Thanks a lot for the support and the suggestion!

Watching a video of yourself can be very enlightening for sure, after changing my grip to throw flat, hard and with spin I saw that I simply wasn’t having any backswing and consistent follow through. It’s like archery where you change 1 thing and it changes EVERYTHING. Frustrating but challenging enough to keep us trying to improve! I practice form exclusively and want a beautiful hard flat bag but my accuracy isn’t there yet so I have to throw a more lob style for points. I feel like eventually the gap will close and I will be able to improvise under the bright lights. It’s a little contradictory to the old adage “practice how you play” but I see Big Tone and Jimmy Youmans throwing absolute 🔥 at my local blind draw and I’m not even close to them but I’m also not happy throwing 4 wonky bags even if they go in the hole. Keep up the great work gents! I feel like we are all on the same cornhole journey!

Man that's amazing that you get to watch and learn from those two! They are both incredible players!! But yes your gap will close! You will over time perfect that low tight flat throw. Its all in the repetition! Keep it up and thanks for the support! We are all in this together!

I was in a slump for a month or two it seemed. Couldn’t figure things out and I kept changing everything from my stance, grip, release, tempo, everything. I keep grinding, and grinding. I almost stopped and was going to give it a break when one day I was out practicing air mails and kept focusing on fundamentals and not results. Then it hit. I kept grinding on a comfortable butterfly grip, tempo and release. I feel really good and have a ton of confidence now. Sometimes you just need to grind through the fundamentals and stop adjusting everything and get good at one thing.

What is a deckaround?

Deka (deka means 10) round. 10 rounds 4 bags per round and you total your score at the end. There are suggestions for divisions based off your Dekaround score. Like 50 would put you novice and 100 would put you in advanced etc. So round 1 you get 3 bags in and one on, you score a 10 for that round, then round 2 you put 2 bags in and 2 bags off you get a 6 for that round with a total score of 16 for the dekaround over 2 rounds. So forth and so on. hope that helps! Dekaround is a great tool to monitor your growth.

Playing Ghost just means that the "ghost" player across the board from you gets a certain number of points per round. if you are playing ghost 6 then that means you have to score at least a 6 to wash the round and 7 to get a single point. you play it out like an actual game. It adds some competition to what would just be a normal session throwing bags. Ghost is a great tool for challenging yourself and getting better!
