great explanation of the basics of power consumption and requirements. So many people have very little ability to understand this and you have simplified it very well

One lesson, even though we have beautiful, clear, sunny Australian hot days in summer, your solar panel may have heat regulation that slows or stops charging your battery. Also, the battery will have its own controller, which will slow the charge when extreme ambient temperature is detected. Also, some battery controllers dramatically reduce battery change once they are around 80-85% full. The result is a fridge going full boar to keep cool and the battery/solar only offering a trickle and ultimately being used even though you thought you had perfect "solar conditions". Nothing beats some physical protection for the battery & fridge. So I've ensured good wiring for the electric system. The battery & fridge are always in the shade and well-ventilated (buy a small DC fan, small draw, significant impact of reducing heat) and if you can shield/insulate the fridge, consider it.

Always find this channel helpful and you explained it well. Now I know how long a piece of string is, lol 😂but seriously it is a lot of factors involved.

Conditions make a huge difference. I'm using an Engel 80MTV combi and a 200Ah lithium. It will run for a week in cooler conditions. I just came home from 3 days camping in 35c+ temps and only had 55% left. When I'm staying still for a longer period of time I bring a 440w panel and find it works really well keeping the battery topped up. Other than the fridge I only really run awning lights and charge devices etc.

I had my 32L Engel running for 5 days half full of drinks in my wife's boot and it only used 52% of a 120AH lithium. Parked in the sun and car temps were high 30's. Hooked up in my ute i'm averaging 8% a day (low 20's temp) of battery usage but if I go for a drive it is fully charged in 15/20 minutes (running an 80L Engel). Running both uses a bit more but as long as I drive for a bit it will run forever. I actually stopped taking my solar panel as I realised i'd need to be stationary for 5-7 days before thinking about recharging. Absolutely fantastic system for camping/hunting etc.

Perfect timing! I was researching this today. Actually now might be a good time to ask why your power stations are buy in-store only? Why can't they be bought online? I ask because I'm in Central Queensland & buying online is usually cheaper.

I imagine it would have something to do with transporting them because of the lithium batteries, but interested to here what the team have to say.

Yep - what task82 has said. Rules around freight, and the labelling on the power stations box regarding dangerous goods, makes it impossible for us to ship at this stage. ~ Lauren

a power bank most likely has a shunt that will tell you how many amps are being used at any given time as well as tell you the state of charge. if you look at a fridges maximum power draw on the specs that's the worst case scenario for power consumption eg the coldest temp setting in the hottest weather and you'd use that figure if you were using it as a freezer on the lowest setting. you can assume power consumption will be better than that usually at a fridge setting and factor in half to a third less for normal use as a fridge.
