the insight I'm taking away from this video is -- I don't need a diet or weight loss program. I need addiction management. I have developed bad habits. I have a carb addiction. I can break it with knowledge, effort and the support you're giving in these videos. I may be calling you soon! Thank you very much.

I may have lost a ton or two, but the real challenge is indeed the mindset. After so long without carbs, there are still days of struggling and I have to use all my energy and focus. And that doesn't happen on bad days, but more and more often on good days when I feel great and think I've made it and I have overcome the addiction. And that shows me exactly the opposite is the case.

Combating my mental "hunger" is a daily, constant, annoying, exhausting part of my life; I will persevere! As of today, my A1c is NOW 5.7 (from 8.3 last April 2020). Did you hear that Robert?? We're doing it! Next stop, 5.0.!

Wow congratulations that is amazing! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I do not have high A1C nor do I have weight issues but I do have chronic pain from a back surgery that failed and need to use the ketogenic diet to help manage my emotional rollercoaster BPD. My thing is I cannot seem to get myself to stop the carb addiction. I feel like my emotions are always so inconsistent that I can only be keto for so many days and then I just like throwing the towel or I'm too scared to get back into ketosis because I'm scared of missing out or scared of Keto flu. My brain knows everything it needs to know on keto but it doesn't know how to do keto and implemented into my daily life so it can help my mental health and my pain. You obviously are doing an amazing job with the ketogenic diet so I would love and appreciate any advice you could give me on how to implement following a ketogenic diet and actually sticking to it. How do I stay consistently keto without always caving when life gets hard? What did you tell yourself and do you tell yourself every day to stay in ketosis and away from carbs?
@rjrnj1

@@emilyingridlaura3419 First off, thank you. Secondly, it's taken me almost 18 mos. of constant adjustment to get here. I, too, have BPD. I also struggle with Narcissist traits, PTSD, and I'm a child of holocaust survivors.i was living in the past. One of my biggest hurdles was fighting the concept that just because my emotions would "Tell" me to eat didn't mean I had to obey. Feelings are Feelings, not an excuse to act. So I realized I needed to get out of the house at my most vulnerable times: 11am-2pm and sometimes 6-8pm. I go for a long walk with my ear buds and favorite music. Or a drive to a store and "window" shop. Emotional support: I visit/talk with friends, let myself feel their support and the intimacy of closeness. And research. I am teaching myself DBT and CBT, (the 2 methods of staying in the present moment and stop from slipping into living in the past, KZbin). I also rewatch Dr. Cywes's videos a lot and had appointments with him and Jane, the nutritionist, recently to fine tune my eating habits. It's a daily struggle but I'm reaching the point where i realize it'll ALWAYS be a struggle and I am attempting to learn that that's okay. I hope this helps. I've plateaued at 170 now. I struggle with fasting. I've reintroduced salads for those times I HAVE TO eat. And I forgive myself when I do over eat. Luckily for me, my cravings for specific food dissipated over time, but I aimed for 0 carbs to fight my cravings. Whew. Hope I've helped and not overwhelmed you. I'm rooting for you. Reach out any time. ❤❤❤

@@rjrnj1 WOW!! Thank you so much for sharing your story with me and also being vulnerable and sharing your battles as well and your similar diagnosis! It's nice to meet someone who also can relate to where I'm coming from with the BPD and I don't have a diagnosis for a narcissistic traits but I definitely see ALOT of them in my own self so thank you for sharing that also!! It's amazing how you have been able to overcome these obstacles and teach yourself so much and actually follow through. I think it is just amazing I tried doing DBT but I struggled a great deal because it was a class setting and I don't deal well with situations like that as well as the big workbook they gave me had so much bouncing around I was always highly confused and I just ended up leaving the class early sadly. But I'm really proud of you for making such a big effort to teach yourself both the tools. I think going carnivore or zero carb would be optimal for me because I fact that I struggle with allowing myself carbs and if I give myself an inch, I take a mile. so I think it would be best if it was just like a NO to 20 grams or less. Kind of like an addict if you give him a little heroin it's still heroin. I like what you said about When You're vulnerable to leave the house because I find myself vulnerable I go to the store so maybe if I get myself on a walk I can't just drive to the store I have to walk seven miles and that's definitely not going to happen so I'm going to take your advice and when I feel weak and vulnerable take myself outside. That is a great tool and I'm going to with everything in me try to do that. Thank you so much for all your help and being so vulnerable with me and open with me. Thank you Rjrnj1 💌🌼

I am treating this just like when I quite smoking 10 years ago. I probably quite 200 times (sometimes it lasted 2 or 3 days or maybe 2 weeks). I learned a lot from that, you can't beat yourself up about having a relapse: you just have to suck it up and tell yourself "I messed up, lets try this again, without delay." Also, even today, if I am around someone smoking, I start wanting a cig (even after 10 years!) but that feeling is less and less every year.

Thank you for talking about this in detail. I love your videos. I haven't found this info anywhere else and it has been fundamental in helping me begin to have confidence in losing weight and understand how to keep it off. I have an addiction. It totally makes sense to my but some days is hard to accept. I have fluctuated between 280-300+ lb for decades. I gave up dieting long ago but now I have hope I can reach my health goals. Can you talk more about psychological/emotional associations what we make with food and how to break them? I want to visit my aunt in another part of the city and all I can think about is getting my favorite fast food over there on the way. It seems like every time I leave my home, I associate my destination with one of my "dealers", i.e. french pasteries, ice cream, crumblcookies, etc. What is going on? How do I combat it?

Just got back my 6 month blood labs and was disappointing in some things one my uric acid was high, 8.1 and my urea nitrogen bun was high 20 snd my bun creatine was high 21.9 both indicate impaired kidney function probably all high because my high protein diet. Still have low vit D and folate eating greens and walking without a shirt in the sun 3-4 days a week. The good news im no longer pre diabetic was hoping for an A1C that more closely matched my meter average around 90 but it was 5.4. My c peptide was good at 2.1 snd my HDL/Trig ratio 131/59 was 2.2, c reactive protein 0.5. So no eating mostly or only meat is not a miracle diet and i would recommend if you are reading this get your labs done and watch your kidney function and uric acid.

SAD and addiction. I can eat once or twice a day most of the year except for when it's winter - End of February to March. THAT is what I need to fix - during those months I simply don't care and eat those carbs because it gives me those bursts of energy to make it through the day/months. And no, light therapy does nothing for me. I haven't been able to find that mental fix for winter. I tried one antidepressant, but it made me more depressed (suicidal even). I guess I can try another this year as I'm TIRED of this rollercoaster of being able to do so well the rest of the year and feel satisfied in every way and then fall completely off the wagon every winter.

Find a bridge like Dr. Cywes has with his coffee. Whether it is coffee or tea or something you can have a small amount of that will get you through the day without resorting to and excessive amount of carbs. My mother suffered from SAD greatly every winter. It took her years to find that she could also sip on coffee to help her through the day. Not cups and cups but enough to help. Good luck on finding an answer.

How do you eat an elephant (my life Moto now)🤓. Got to cut it up in pieces. I just “knew” what doc shares is my truth. I bought a 3 lb package of hamb and ate only that. and salt for 3 days. It was what I had been searching for for 58 yrs. Most peace from carb addiction I ever experienced. Then woke up in the night with such low blood sugar I had to hold my head and crawl to the bathroom. That was months ago. I can’t seem to get past the keto flu HELL to be able to do this and still function/ got to work. Doc just said what I needed to hear at 11 minutes. Take the time even if weeks to withdraw from carbs and sugar. Heck I’m the one that preaches it takes 21 days to create a new habit. Why not with food/carbs. Add in what I know to do like a big shaker bottle filled with water some pottasium (cream of tarter) sea salt drink on it all day and some magnesium pills to ease the symptoms. My addiction has been like my pacifier, my baby bottle. How to you take that away from the baby. Slowwwwwwly. Weaaaaaaan him off slowly. Bingo! I hate coffee. I have no bridge item of no calorie. Diet pop was a vice. But it activate me like sugar. Any suggestions from anyone welcome. Guess I need to replace it with presence. Feeling the presence of true self NOT feed it with food substance 😇. Feel not feed as Neville Godard teaches!

I always agree with your basic premise (well almost always), but I sometimes have a quibble over a detail. I think it is hard to compare the carb addict with and alcoholic or smoker because an alcoholic or smoker can have ZERO of the offending substance. But a carb addict is likely not going to be able to have zero. Carnivore's get close, but I don't know if any can really say they are at zero. So it can't be as binary when talking about food as it is when talking about alcohol. Almost no one is eating 0 carbs so your statement that we should be eating 0 is hard to take. I know I am perfectly fine eating up to 20 grams per day. I could be fine eating more but I don't know because I haven't been doing it. I also few sort of offended by the comment that we don't know whether or not we eat snacks. I do know what I eat and what I don't eat.

I went on keto around 6 years ago and lost about 45 lbs. I still have another 45 to go, however, three years ago I experienced menopause and since then, the weight loss has stopped and I noticed that where I had normal glucose levels before, now I see it going up higher and higher and can be around 115 in the morning. I know about overeating and its potential to creep up and I am very conscientious about it. I eat once or twice a day and eat a fatty steak or some type of meat and very little, if any, vegetables. I do not snack at all. I do have an adrenal tumor, but it has not grown since the two years ago it was discovered and in fact, reports smaller but that could just be from inaccuracy. Cortisol levesl were normal. I have recently read about the PSMD so I am trying that the past two weeks and lost about 4 lbs, so I am hoping that will lower my glucose levels too.

I had Gastro Bypass RouxnY 20 yrs ago and have gained half my weight back. I have been trying to do Carnivore to lose weight and break my carb addiction. I am not getting weight loss results beyond 5-8 lbs. I keep going up and down the same pounds. I have been terrible at fasting. Any stressor, during the day triggers me to eat, I drink water and eat protein to calm the "craving". I am tired of this!

Isn't the coffee an emotional event though? Wouldn't it be better to get rid of the habit of putting something in our mouth every time we feel an emotion? I'm not judging, I have the same habit and would like to get rid of it

@@user-hz8bh3ix2d treat it like poison, or like alcohol to an alcoholic - stop eating it, do not give yourself permission to have even a bite of it or something similar.

Worst part is being carb free for a year losing 30# and having 2 deaths in family falling back into emotional eating and gaining 6# in only a few weeks . Time to buck up and get real . No one to blame but me...

Although I know the benefits of ketovore after losing 160 pounds, I don't love the foods and am bored with them after 26 months. Different ways of cooking the same things isn't interesting anymore. Any suggestions?

Look for recipes. Try to look at it as a form of energy your body needs and not as a form of enjoyment. I mean it doesn’t have to be tasteless and boring. It is up to you to make it more appealing for you. Try more variety or change how you look at your food.

I put Extra Sugar Free gum in my mouth hole when I leave the house because my mouth is a little dry and I know that means bad breath. I drink tons of water. How bad is the gum???

Even sugar free gum can cause your insulin to be triggered. The process of chewing. So, maybe try to keep the gum use to just for a few minutes around mealtime.

Strong sistas youtube channel has a recipe for tortillas made out of eggs. Egg whites and chicken...I'm sure you could sub the meat with some other protein...the tortillas of course are carnivore....Carb free...well except for the minimal amount of carbs in eggs. This might be a good replacement...low carb tortillas ingredients are not that great...😕

So true. Losing weight is not difficult. Maintaining a healthy weight long term is always more challenging. Developing positive habits to keep the weight off is essential.
