My husband regularly measures his blood pressure . Chronically high blood pressure for years , huge carb and junk food addict . Had vertigo for a week and towards the end of it for two consecutive days he fasted , not by choice but because of nausea . On the second day of fasting his blood pressure was normal and vertigo had eased . He thought machine was broken and asked me to redo it a few times . He still doesn’t get it that food contributes to blood pressure because his kidney specialist said “we don’t know what causes it “ hundreds of dollars paid to this corporate schill for pushing drugs that don’t help. And yes he was just told to avoid salt, nothing about sugar or diet

No, doctors gave up on nutrition, knowing that people won’t adjust their lifestyle so they use drugs. It’s that simple, some doctors don’t care, but they gave up.

Lifelong carboholic, chronic high blood pressure entire adult life.Ate a vegan diet for over 5 years, never lowered my blood pressure one notch.Tried carnivore diet for 6 weeks, primarily meat, eggs, butter and lots of salt, blood pressure reading was 130/78, lowest reading I've ever had.Now almost 1year eating carnivore and blood pressure is consistently normal.Also triglycerides went down considerably.

I stopped taking all high bp meds in October of 2022, cold turkey. After being on them over 23 years. I had enough of big pharma. In January of 23, I started ketovore and carnivore. I dropped 35# in 3 months. I’m never hungry. I use redmans real salt on everything. I never used to use any salt. It’s now November of 23, I’ve never felt better and I’ll never take medication again. My bp is perfect.

After a recent surgery, I was put on a drip. I was supposed to be in recovery for only one night, but they wouldn't release me because my blood pressure was extremely high. On the fourth day, I asked what was in the drip and they said, "Lactic acid." When I asked to be changed to a drip of only sodium, my blood pressure immediately went down and I was able to be released. I'm still mad about that. Please, when you are put on a drip in the hospital, make sure it is NOT any kind of sugar. You can ask for a sodium drip.

D5W solution is dextrose, essentially carbs. That’s what they put in the drip. Not lactic acid. If your cellular ph was off it might be indicated.

It's not that. Most patients do not want to adjust their lifestyle. They want a pill. I do agree that we need more of us in health care to recommend these changes but again most patients are simply not going to do that. They want a pill because the alternative is too much work for them. That's just reality.

Excellent video. Just watched a Dr Fung vid about salt. He showed studies that some of the highest salt consumers had the lowest blood pressure. The whole salt vs blood pressure schtick was debunked many years ago.

A good few years ago, I watched a video in which a herd of goats braved a treacherously steep incline to get to a patch of rock salt, which they then proceeded to lick with great gusto. When I saw that, I knew that natural salts had to be a thing our bodies need!

Hello Dr Cywes. I'm 72 years old. I've been Keto-Carnivore ( I alternate) for almost 4 years now. This mornings blood pressure was 109 over 62. My last A1C was 4.9. It was 5.7 when I started Keto. My starting weight was 192.5. I'm 5'3" and now weigh 108 lbs. All my heath markers are perfect. If I hadn't found Dr Berry and now you, I wouldn't be enjoying the good health I have today! Thank you for always explaining health issues in a way we can understand.

@@no22sill I just had my annual physical and it appears that I’ve shrunk another inch. At the time I wrote this, I was in the middle of an identity theft situation and stressed. I made an effort to gain 7lbs. My weight is now stable at 115. No doctor has ever told me (even at 108) that I’m underweight, or expressed concern. They are happy with both my weight, my labs, and health markers. I’m sure your concern is coming from a good place.

@@no22sill no, it actually isn't "grossly underweight" by BMI standards. it's perfectly within the normal range. maybe it's grossly underweight compared to the typical person walking around with 50+ pounds of excess visceral fat 24x7... but those people are the ones with the problem, not @leahmiranda8359 lol

Been Carnivore for eight months now. I've lost 40 lbs and I'm off my blood pressure meds, my Statins, my depression meds, and all three of my Diabetes meds. My last medication was Metformin for Diabetes. During a review with my Doc of my fasting blood labs, he said "You don't need Metformin anymore. That's for Diabetics." He was very impressed with my numbers given my history. To my surprise tho, he really didn't seem interested in hearing about my Carnivore diet. And it's too bad cause I'd love to be able to help other people who are fat, unhealthy, depressed, and lost as I was.

You don't eat carbohydrates, thus, practically any value regarding your blood sugar would get better. The reason isn't meat, the reason probably is a (extremely low) carb-free diet.

@@xanderpills Yes that is a BIG reason. There are essential proteins that your body needs to function. And there are essential fats which especially is good for your brain. But there is no such thing as "essential carbohydrates". However, ruminant meat is more nutrient dense that any other food. It's all protein and nutrients. No additives, carbs, soy, or other crap you don't need messing up your system.

Glucose holds onto 3x more water than sodium. Insulin activates angiotensin rennin 2 increasing blood pressure at the kidney ducts. Low salt intake actually increases BP. After changing my diet to low carb more animal foods and correcting electrolyes imbalance I now have perfect blood pressure and pulse.

Yes good comments. BP drops markedly on low carb, that familiar dizziness when you stand up from sitting down. As reducing carbs lowers blood pressure very significantly, you can only imagine how much more effective a proper human diet would be, than statins, in reducing heart disease. Also the benefit of reduced risk of stroke. It's great to see the understanding of this growing. Good luck ..

Thank you for sharing your experience and thank you for the information about insulin and angiotensin relationship to BP. The only thing I disagree with is that low sodium causes an increase in BP. Everytime I eat food that is loaded with salt e.g. pizza, etc.. my BP goes through the roof. Even though the dough is carb it's loaded with salt and that is well established fact.

@@pabloblanco2656 Sounds more like you may not be taking in enough potassium and magnesium. If you correct the electrolytes imbalance then salt is not an issue

@@JYAN2852 you might be right but I think it's a malfunctioning kidney since I have had low BP since I caught covid no hospital no amount of salt nor amount of IV fluids can bring BP into normal range. That's why I think it's a kidney / adrenal cortex issue

I have known for some time that sugar and carbs, or sugar from carbs is your enemy. Salt is your friend. This Doc is the first one I’ve seen that knows the deal. In ancient times salt was as valuable as anything else.

I need to put this on rewind and listen to it everyday. Eat more salt, get rid of sugar. I grew up with eating little to no salt (my family all avoided salt due to doctor's recommendations) and I have to think about adding it. Sugar, on the other hand, is an addictive drug that calls to me.

@@muchasalud2011 I may go all the way carnivore for the winter. Right now I have progressed to eating protein and a small salad for my main meal and only protein for supper. I feel better just haven't felt the need to go any further.

@@muchasalud2011 Ditto! I still collect recipes for desserts, lol, out of habit & the old idea of how good they look. But when I imagine actually eating any of it, I am immediately repulsed by the memory of how it made me feel! And even the couple of times I tested myself by taking a little taste, it didn't even taste good to me; just wayyy too sweet! And like you, I don't desire or crave carbs at all. Even the idea of keto bread & chaffles doesn't entice me bcz I do not miss bread or have any desire for it! Or pizza! I even lost my craving for chips and hot dogs - both favorite foods - after I started adding salt back into my diet. Turned out it was only the salt I was craving? And when I first realized it, I had a freezer full of hot dogs that I ended up giving to my neighbors bc I simply had no desire for them anymore! I was truly amazed!

I'm living proof to what this man is speaking on. I'm addicted to carbs and often experience facial swelling, headaches, brain fog, puffy eyes lack of energy and an overall feeling of tiredness. Not to mention my blood pressure numbers get really high. I always get cravings for salty foods when I try to cut down on carbs. Now I know why this roller coaster between sugar and salt is seriously affecting me. I had to laugh when you said take a risk talking to your doctor about this subject. I've learned to keep a lot of things such as this to myself because most doctors are clueless or just plain don't give a dam. Whenever I find a natural approach to help with my conditions that really works my doctor frowns upon it. Sometimes I feel as if I know more about healing myself than my doctor. I truly appreciate your honesty, to bad there aren't many doctors like you. Thank you!

I only get high blood pressure,brain fog,lack of energy and an overall feeling of tiredness...should i cut down on bread etc? I'm always fatigue & drop off to sleep around 1pm -2pm nearly everyday! I really need to know and any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I eat tons and tons of salt. I always have. I carried salt in my purse for years because I didn't like having to ask for it if I went to a restaurant, especially during Covid. If I have time, I put salt in my coffee together with sucralose and nutpods creamer. I use salt to flavor my pizzas instead of cheese and often add salt, milk and sweetener to my occasional ice cream. I salt my salted peanut butter and stir it in immediately after opening the jar. I prepare at least five or six cups of popcorn for my evening meal and saturate it with salt and nutritional yeast. I eat it with lots of salted, sweetened watermelon. I use it in my yogurt and berries along with a few nuts and sucralose. I'll soon be 76 and my blood pressure is consistently about 112 over 67. I don't take any blood pressure medicine and I'm in good health. What I spend on prescription drugs is persistently less than $100 per year. In a word, I love, love love salt and have little regard for group- think nutritional bandwagons. Some people may have issues with salt. Some people may have issues with gut allergies. I don't believe we should be adopting other people's maladies en mass. That's dumb.

I've been on meds for high blood pressure for years. I recently had to stay in the hospital forba few days for an illness. I didn't eat anything for two days, had only IV drip. I was told that I didn't need meds. As soon as I started eating again, my blood pressure was high again. Keto and fasting now.

Prior fridge era almost only one way to preserve a food was a salt. I don't recall any complains about high boot pressure reported by ancient doctors.

I have been a sugar addict for all of my 62 years and had high blood pressure for most of my adult life. I have been trying to go carnivore for a few weeks but haven't been able to stop my sugar addiction (ice cream, sweets, etc.) so my bp has been out of control. I have never heard such a great explanation of why sugar is the culprit and not salt. I now have renewed reason to get rid of the sugar completely. I truly appreciate your knowledge and the way you present it. Thank you!

Waiting for finger surgery, the nurse took my blood pressure 110/64. I said better than most folks my age of 59, right? She said better than everyone the hospital. Not rocket science but now I can explain it more precisely. Thanks Dr. Cywes!

Thank you! A year and a half ago, I was obese with HBP. I cut out sugar, went to low carbs and stopped adding salt and eating things like chips or fries. I lost 40 lbs over nine months, kept it off, and still have HBP. My last few blood work labs show my Sodium levels are borderline or just below normal. Now I know why I still have HBP.

I added 2 tsp of salt every day I cannot believe the difference in going 💩 and other thing I noticed nails, the burning gums are gone! Skin too. Now I need to get rid of all carbs🥩🥩🥩🍖🍖🍖

I had an experience years ago proving that the bowels are the first route for excess sodium to leave lol. I added too much when I cooked something and ate it....had to run to the toilet!

This is fascinating! I had no idea that my carb addiction was driving my high blood pressure all of these years. I remember being scolded about my blood pressure and weight at 10 or 11 years old! I always connected the two. The body is an amazing machine, and I now understand that man's interventions, no matter how well-intentioned, usually make the body's overall health worse. Yes a pill can lower BP or Cholesterol, but if the root cause is not addressed, then it usually makes overall health worse. Kind of like the government, messing up everything it gets involved with!

Yeah, it pisses me off because I am 68 and I've had high bp since I was 45 and all I've ever heard, is to cut down on salt. Being from the south, I drink a lot of sweet ice tea, so I'm pretty sure if I quit or cut back on that, my bp would probably normalize or at least be lower.

I wish I was told this when I was first diagnosed with high blood pressure over 10 years ago. I am doing a keto diet and intermittent fasting to bring my blood sugar/ A1c under control and ultimately I plan to get off the Lipitor and blood pressure medication.

I wish the same, Pat. I had no idea it was linked w my diet when I started meds for hypertension 12 yrs ago, bc I was mostly plant-based at the time & thought my diet was healthier than most! Now, however, I have been carnivore w salt for a couple of weeks and "healthy keto" with salt for about 5 months before that, but I have yet to see any improvement in my BP. Sigh... Do you remember how long it took you to see results, or if there was anything else you did that you thought contributed to your success? Any suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Angela Stanton found that salt is very important for people who suffer migraines. In her book, she also advises people eat LOW CARB and tweak the salt to personal needs.

I went to the doc the other day and he said i see you have lose fifteen pounds what did you do or is it your crohns and i said i cut out a lot of sugar and carbs and he said how many carbs and i said less than one hundred a day and no sugar and he said get it under fifty and drink more water your blood work looks good but your kidneys are showing you need more water. then he said i am glad you have figured it out i wish all my patients would do what you are doing.

Thanks, Years ago i've read a book about this subject. As a Diabetic 2 i was on a ketogeen dieet. Low carbs. But after years i had problems with cold hands and feet. All my food was fresch and almost withoud salt. After putting more salt in my food. I got everthing back. Warm hands and feet. Also in winters. So conpleetly agree. Richard

Back about 60 years ago, just as A/C was coming on the scene, there used to be salt pills about the size of the 81mcg aspirin tablet. These were handed out/made available on hot days to help conserve water.

My mother and father both suffer from high blood pressure and take blood pressure medication. I am constantly telling them to increase their salt intake and stop eating crap carbohydrates. They may do it for a week and then they slip back and it's so frustrating. My blood pressure stays around 110/60 and I eat salt.

Very true based from my experience Since when I don't eat foods with salt and sugar years from now I don't experience high blood attack and dizzy.And it's better also to drink water naturally and boil it.Not treated water with any chemicals. Salt is the number One to trigger high blood pressure attack.And Sugar clogs the system of the body.We can use alternative sugar from natural foods like plant based foods naturally fruits and stevia does not harms the body.

Omg, my blood pressure is very high. Been taking 3 magnesium, just bought Lecithin capsules, Hawthorne Berry, beet powder juice and still have high blood pressure. Thnk God gor this Doctor, what I need is SALT. I use Celtic n Hamalayan pink salt. I don't take the hbp medicine 💊 Thku Doctor. God bless you🥑 🧂

I found this video incredibly valuable I have been suffering from HypOtension for the past 8 months resulting in extreme fatigue an hour so after eating a low carb meal (0-20 carbs). My go to snack food was a few ounces of unsalted pistachios or some times salted almonds For the past 6 months I have been seeing an endocrinologist and I have received battery after battery of tests with almost all parameters in spec with a few just over the high range. Cortisol was on the low side of normal and 2 challenge tests showed normal adrenal, pituitary and hypothalamus response. She finally said that she hadn't a clue what was wrong, prescribed cortisone and said if it doesn't work, see a cardiologist. My standing BP dropped as low as 65/48. I was spending 3 or more hours napping after meals and was feeling totally debilitated. I did add extra salt to my water and cut back my cycling from 30 to 20 miles a day but nothing helped. Last weekend I ran out of pistachios and found a 1/2 lb bag of Stryve biltong at Walmart. Zero carbs and no added sugar, unlike jerky. It was really good and almost the real deal and I consumed the bag in a few days. The following day I no longer felt drowsy after meals the fatigue was almost gone. In addition, I have gone all week without a nap! BP is relatively normal especially between standing and sitting. A recent blood test (8/26) had sodium at 140, Chloride at 106 and potassium at 4.1 and Anion Gap was 13.0, so no obvious deficiency. I was checked yesterday by a cardiologist and my ekg was 100% normal. He did prescribe Midodrine to boost BP when necessary. I was afraid to overdo the salt but after this video I will continue to consume significantly more than I had been. I do check my BP 4 or 5 times daily. I feel your video rationalized my recent experience with additional salt. Thanks for the great service!

Three years of reducing salt based on doctor's recommendation and blood pressure never changed. Stopped going to that doctor and have been eating keto for eight months. BP slowly going down. Will have next physical with a different doctor in November.

So were you saying that after 8 mo of keto & increased salt, Mulavi, your blood pressure was only just coming down? And if so, can you please share how it is doing now, four months later? I ask bc I have been on keto for about 4-5 months and carnivore for 2 weeks, yet my BP has not improved, nor the swelling in my feet and legs. I was expecting it to come down faster. But if yours took longer too, yet did finally come down, that gives me hope, lol.

@@cherylh4688 bp dropped 10 points each. I started keto January 16 2021 and by June 16 I lost 50 pounds (228 to 178). I tried for 60 pounds in 6 months, but that required too much effort. My bp did not drop like others on keto, but it is consistently lower than before. I have wanted to exercise more, which would help my bp, but I'm dealing with a long term injury I'm currently rehabbing. Hopefully, with exercise (my job is physical, but don't get winded) my bp will go lower.

@@cherylh4688 BP as of today 126/69. I'm back on keto eating two meals a day. I got off keto for a few months because I lost the weight I wanted to lose, but I just didn't feel all that good. I now feel much better in keto and two meals a day.

Great video. My resting heart rate went from in the 90's to 61 in one day after taking salt. What I learnt. I have started taken responsibility of health. Started keto, but have adopted a healthy keto diet (vegetable, and leafy greens as well) and started exercising ( know up to100 miles per week). I was starting to get concerned because my resting heart rate was going up the more weight I lost and the fitter I got. After increasing my salt intake my pulse is normal and I feel great. The lesson I learnt was moving away from a high carb, low fat, low sodium diet to a keto lift style with lots of exercise your salt intake must be adjusted to your new healthier life style.

I've be keto carnivore since Feb 2019. I'm still on lisinopril but... I only take in if my blood pressure is high now. Went from 10mg a day 11 years ago, to 20mg 5 years ago, back to 10mg when I went keto. Now taking 10mg maybe every 3 or 4 days. Hope to some day not need it.

I am 76, I have half a teaspoon of good salt with oil every day, all normal, no pharmaceuticals ever. I cook my own meals and I have lemon, water and ACV everyday as well, plus lots of supplements.
