Howdy! fellow adventurers, in this episode of "The Beagle Barge Beagle Adventure" Wavey and I pass into the Mississippi (just below the Twin Cities) and start making our way slowly south, trying to stay in that autumn sweet spot and one step ahead of winter. So far, so good...;)

I'm 57 Brenton and was a 42 year smoker up until just 4 months ago when I finally quit. Just started my second week going to our local gym at the county Rec center as it's free for me and 5 minutes from the house. It's rough and tough for sure... My friends say I bet you feel good and when I tell them I feel like crap they look at me like I'm crazy. It sucks but I'm trying to create a habit of going to the gym and getting healthier. One day at a time... Loved the video and always looking for the next one! Enjoy yourself!

These sort of rent seeking maneuvers by state/local governments really reveal a sort of deep desperation. They are so desperate for revenue that they construct concrete paths and boating docks purely as revenue generation tools, not for the enjoyment and use by the local populace or tourists who have choose to travel and enjoy their beautiful community. If they could, some of these people would try and tax us for the air we breathe freely.

I once "cured" the two small fender problem by buying a bunch of them at Walmart (they were really cheap!) and stacking three of them together, side by side, so the extra 'fatness' would protect my boat from a certain dock. I made up about three of these, expecting to take them apart when I was finished using them, but they cushioned the boat so well I just kept them together and used them for a couple of seasons on the Chesapeake Bay. Always keep your eye out around marina dumpsters. Sometimes some 'yachties' will toss out old fenders because they've become dirty and they don't want to clean them up. I guess they figure it's easier to just buy all new fenders than to simply scrub the dinge off the ones they have. Anyway, I've seen so many good and great things getting tossed at marinas and yacht clubs, I never miss a chance to scan the dumpsters.

I like to stand at our helm as well, Brenton. I also agree how restricting access to public places is becoming an issue! We have "No Parking" signs going up on country roads so we can't hike areas I've been hiking all my life! Water access is also being pinched off! Navigating these changes can be more frustrating than navigating the Mississippi! Lol! BestRoy
@backwatersandbackroads
@backwatersandbackroads 10 ай бұрын
At some point, we're going to have to not comply. The Mississippi has been much more welcoming so far. The St. Croix apparently is known for an abundance of rules as regulations. Minnesotians can be uptight. I've been putting a link to your channel in descriptions of videos. Maybe when I reach the Kentucky Lakes in a few weeks, we can talk about doing an interview. I'm sure we'll both have to learn some tech to make it happen ;)

That unknown building you mentioned wondering what it was at 13:40 is the Cervenka Center. It's some sort of R&D incubator for a company called Interfacial. In case you're wondering how I figured that out, you showed a shot of your GPS right after showing it so went from there. There's a pic of it on Google Earth in the area and it just happened to be the right thing.

Welcome. Thanks for being here. I can't really afford it! Lol. God gives me just enough to keep going somehow. It amazes me the most. I live frugal (that helps) but currently the bucket is draining faster than I can fill it up. It will all work out...stay tuned

ill give you a pointer.... tugs usually stay on a certain channel depending the area you in but ch 66 is a good start. if you pass him on your port side thats called "passing on the #1 whistle.... starboard is passing on the #2 whistle! just a cool way to communicate with them while navigating on the river.

Hi Brenton, great episode. Now I now why all my friends moved from Minnesota to Florida. We just completed a cool adventure with our boat, we sailed from our home base of Key Largo, Florida to Key West, Florida and back. It's about 87 nautical miles each way, so we ended up staying in Key West for a couple of days. Our boat is a 2020 Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran and it's wicked fast, on the way down we were reaching speeds of 17.2 knots under sail. Even at those speeds the boat is very stable and easy to sail. The fastest this boat has ever reached is 21.3 knots.
