I have a KALA ST soliid spruce top demo on my channel. Very nice sound for ~ $200. Uke came set up really well, which is kind of unusual in that price range. I bought a few years ago from Hawaii Music Supply. Since then I bought a few others of these for gifts to family members and friends.

Jan Vance - I love my solid mahogany Kala tenor and have tried loads of strings - settled on the new sugar strings by Aquila - nothing like their Nylguts which I do not like at all - too boomy. I also liked the Fremont blacklines but they were too quiet on the mahogany - probably good on the Cedar top. I have also gone over to using concert sized strings as they have less tension and are more comfy to play - easier for string bends and hammer ons etc.

Not sure if anyone here can answer - I love Pono (and Ko'olau) but the Pono I bought about 5 years ago had a really imho chunky neck (the neck profile/back of the neck). I have small hands and it was just, well, too fat. Does anyone know if the neck profile has changed in the last few years? I heard that it was less bulky but I'm not sure that's true. Thanks!

Mahalo! Schoeps CMC6 are my main ones, Mk21 or Mk 41 caps. But I just got the Telefunken ELA M 260 set and love them. I'll be using them on a lot of stuff from here on. For preamps I use Dave Hill but recently been using NPNG instead. Both good. NPNG less forgiving which is nice. Lynx AD converter. Logic.
