I would be so stoked if you went in on Cypher (and Invisible Sun). The Cypher community would be happy to have you.

Welcome back! I’m in the same spot- wanting to run Eberron in 2014/24… can’t wait to see what you do with it! Definitely stealing the ‘no healing in the mournlands!’ Keep up the great wophrk!❤

It's funny you should say that about DCC. I played a campaign to about level 5 and it was starting to feel.. off to me, though I couldn't put a finger on exactly why. Been running ShadowDark since then and I was going to suggest Dragonbane but you got there by the end of the video. Hope you enjoy it.

Been using DCC Crit Tables in my 3.5 and Shadowdark games (with a couple tweaks) makes for interesting fumbles and crits.

Mr Tarrasque likes Cypher, but also ToV and others. If you had to pick THE cypher tuber, it'd be Qedhup. Cypher is my favorite genre inpedendent game. Basic Roleplaying works, but the mechanics are too crunchy for me. FATE is good for some things, but for a lot of tables it's not crunchy enough. Cortex had good intentions, but I am not a fan of large dice pools. I really like Powered by the Apocalypse, but it's more a system to use to build a game from, not as polished to just pick up and play as Cypher and BRP.

Fully get your challenges running DCC at higher level. I had one DCC core game up to levels 5-6 and it was an explosive (albeit joyful) disaster when each player's turn came up. DCC Lankhmar about the same, but we got a bit further up in level.

I didn't feel I ran into these issues with Perils on the Purple Planet, so maybe it is a combination of Dying Earth and my new group of players. Still I'm ready to not search for the correct roll table and the correct die for a very specific roll slowing down everything.

Lol. The captions said Jogulate Junction. That's funny. But I'm kinda high.

The system that I think is the most "generic" and wide ranging in its ability to do different types of things is Basic Roleplaying. However, it isn't great for everything. Like, it's not great for 5e-esque Heroic Fantasy. But great for Science Fiction, Horror, Apocalyptic, Historic, Grimdark, etc.

Same with GURPS.

Maybe it's just me, but missed games are more stressful as a GM than a game that happens. All of the build-up of getting ready to run a game with no resolution.

Who's this Mr.Tarrasque you are speaking of... ? In all seriousness, please feel free to become the Cypher System guy. Qedhup, Cypher Unlimited and I can't do it by ourselves.

Cypher is in an odd space because I don't think I like playing it, but I love GMing it lol. I prefer rolling dice pools over a single die, and I dislike spending health resources as currency. But as a GM these issues don't apply so they don't bother me at all haha. Cypher is the easiest game system I've ever run and requires the least amount of mechanical prep work. It seems like a game designed for GMs by a GM, but not as much for players.

That's an interesting take, I think I feel that way with some OSR gernes, where I would like running it more than playing the system. I've played and ran Cypher and I enjoy both, but it is an interesting thought.

“Yo dawg we heard you like 5E so here’s a new version of 5E that isn’t 5E.” Not sure what the GG goal is. If you want to play 5E, it’s already there. If you don’t, other systems you might like better exists. Not sure who their target demo is on this.

Yeah I'm not sure either, other than they can push an inhouse 5e for their inhouse 5e products. We'll have to see how it works.
