Looking forward to the next episodes. I have been ketogenic for a couple of years, lost 80 pounds, A1C 5.5, but still need to lose another 50 pounds that isn't responding nearly as well to ketogenic eating and regular fasting. And my fasting insulin is 16.6! I'm assuming this last 50 pounds is going to turn it all around, but it's so impossibly stubborn. The year 2020 will mean a concerted effort to do whatever it takes as I'm 62 and want the next couple of decades to be healthful ones.

@@Terryvan21 I'm the same. Have lost heaps of weight but cant lose the last 20 kg. even on carnivore. Doctors can't explain it either. I'm 68 and it's really anoying me as it was medication, not diet that made me fat in the first place.

@@pegsol If you think that's how anyone lives a carnivore diet you're crazy. I consume no carbohydrates at all with (maybe) green beans once a quarter, when I feel desperate. Caster oil is a no no as the only fatty substances that entre by body apart are animal fats. I have no liver trouble and no reason to ever have any as I don't consume the crap that causes it.

I get so mad at the doctors in my state. I have been to several different doctors trying to find one that wants to heal you, not just pump you full of meds that kill you. Years ago when I was diagnosed I could have gotten rid of Type II instead of trying different things and failing. My last doctor flat out told me she had no idea how to reverse diabetes! Yikes. Here I am 15 years later eating carnivore learning on line how to get rid of sugar. Thank you doctor for going above the call of duty! 😎❤️

This is a great primer for those who are not familiar with they dynamics behind diabetes. Thank you Dr. Cywes. Outside of the false notion of the dangers of dietary fat and cholesterol, no other myth has been more pernicious than the one that makes a distinction between so called "good carbs" and "bad carbs". Thank you for clarifying that, especially for an obese, insulin resistant, and/or diabetic person, there is no such thing as a "good" carb.

Fructose is 5 member ringed. It is 7 times as potent as glucose in glycating proteins. Galactose is 3 times as potent as glucose. Starch is composed of linear amylose and much larger and highly branched amylopectin. Amylose is harder to digest than amylopectin.

Well, perhaps this explains why all my self-deprivation of sugar and grains, but keeping whole milk, kefir, some fruit (just substituted MCT oil for prunes), walnuts (or pistachios) and 10g 85% cacao dark chocolate each day, has not resulted in any change in my HA1c. From Sept ‘23 to February ‘24, my fasting insulin has gone down from 18.7 to 8.3, no insulin resistance (25) either time. And yet A1c hasn’t budged, and the scale only barely. My waist measurement lost 2” in that time. So changes are happening. I’m not happy at the thought of going pure strict carnivore. Surely a few (20) organic red raspberries are not dog shit! Not happy at all!

Glucose cannot be absorbed in the mouth as there are no insulin to facilitate transport across the bilipid layered cell membranes. Muscles can take in glucose when exercising through cytosol glucose transporters which migrate to and fuse with the cell membrane. I wonder if the blood vessel lining absorbs glucose in a similar fashion. Sugars are highly polar with many hydroxyl groups per molecule and will make blood thick and sticky. This will increase blood viscosity and blood pressure. The liver can store up to 100g of glucose and the muscles 500g. When there is a high glucose load the storage will be full and allowing formation of fructose through the polyose pathway. Then fructose will be metabolized into triglycerides causing fatty liver.

Wonder if it got deleted. 🤔 Here he did mention, though, those whose mitochondria aren't functioning properly will store their dietary fat because the cells don't want it; it has nowhere to go, so fat accumulates.
