I’ve been addicted to sugar for as long as I can remember , but I’ve also been addicted to exercise and activity. It really gets me when people say “you’re not overweight. You’re not addicted to sugar.” SMH…sugar has RUINED my body, my mind. I have exercised and managed to stay “not fat,” but I will literally binge until I could vomit. I am an addict, and truly, the only way I can manage this is by not taking a SINGLE bite. Give me an inch, and I will take a mile. I completely 100% stand by what Dr. Cywes is saying here. Completely resonates with me. When I give into my cravings it not only hurts my body but my mental health. I feel physically ill. It exasperates my autoimmune symptoms, but I also feel like a failure. I’m still working through this psychologically.

I say "I'm Irish but can't drink, so sugar is my drug". And, therefore , I have to treat sugar as seriously as if I were a sober alcoholic - others can eat carbs in moderation, I cannot, so abstinence is the key to "sobriety". It is lovely to have no cravings, to be free to eat as much as I want of anything low carb, whenever I want it, and to be able to make sensible adult decisions about my meals.

I attest to this. He also talks about 2 types of people when it comes to addiction in another video. You're either a moderator or an abstainer. I found out that I'm an abstainer. Can't even have one bite or it's all over. Keep it up. It gets better. 😎👉

I haven't calorie restricted at all intentionally in 6 months plus on carnivore now and am generally eating between 1500-3000 calories a day. I just learned to not eat if I wasn't hungry and as I became fat adapted and stayed away from the carbs the time between hunger pangs grew longer and longer. Now I have coffee in the morning with heavy cream and one meal a day 5 days out of 7. I can fast for 36 hours without problem now and have lost almost 100lbs. The meals are tremendously good and actually satisfy and satiate rather than just feeding the addiction and leaving me back at the fridge 2 hours later. Carnivore eating has changed my life in amazing ways at 52.

Doctor has stated in other videos that it's not so good to have only one meal a day to get in all of the meat that you have to eat during that meal. It's better to have two or three meals a day and get in smaller amounts of meat at a time as it's easier on your system and you're able to eat more meat if you have three meals instead of one.

Possibly try weighing yourself each week Monday mornings. I use to weigh myself all the time. Plays plenty of mind games with me. Take baby steps and try to weigh yourself only once a week. I eliminated flour, sugar and caffeine 90 days ago and I feel amazing. I don't care about the scale anymore as I care more about how I feel and what I fuel my body with.

This is the best (only?) video I've seen on just how damaging skinny shaming is for the formerly obese, and how to resist it. I went from a 23.6 BMI all the way back up to 31.6 because the person who used to be my oldest friend decided to publicly say I looked skeletal, like I had cancer, etc. Agoraphobia and social anxiety went way up, too. I'm back on the right track, but it was hellish to pick up the train, repair it, replace the rails, and refill the coal chamber.

Yeah. That's tough. I've been low carb for nearly a year now. Lost quite a bit of weight. Was trying to do keto, but the sweets would always ruin it for me. I tried carnivore and the physical sugar cravings were gone. So I was just left with my mind and my emotions. This is what makes me turn to ice cream and other soothing substances. The reality of the addiction, or rather the reality of what's behing the addiction just hits me so hard. It's like learning how to live at the age of 38. It's just so basic and that just makes me feel like crap. I feel like I'm behind with everything in my life and sorting it all out seems like a very long and exhausting way. There are better and worse days but that meaasage hit me hard. I'm still clinging to my excuses. It's hard!

If you keep at it it will get easier with time. It's my 4th year on keto. I can tell you I had cravings for a sugar high for the whole first year. What I did is: I ate some more keto food. Gradually, my body started to understand that there won't be another sugar high. Also, ketogenic food is satisfying in its own way. Eventually, the cravings left me. I do not get them even when I see other people eating sweets or deserts.

Thank you, I really needed to hear this. Many would see me as a successful person, and I would agree. However, I always want more, it is never enough for me to be good enough, I need to be the best. My biggest fear is that being good enough will lead to complacence, apathy, and stagnation. My progress is never significant enough or quick enough no matter how hard I work. I am often confronted with situations where I am not an expert. I need that hit of carbs before "I go on stage." A low/no carb lifestyle has really helped me, and provided me the mental clarity to realize and think through my fears, and realize them for what they are: irrational. Lately, I have been encouraged by those I love not to be so rigid, particularly with my "extreme diet." I valued their opinion, and I did. One bite of ice cream from my son dilated my pupils, and my whole life became about getting that next sweet treat. I am now back on the wagon, with the love and support of my family. Today, I love myself. Thank you Dr. Cywes.

I have definite carb addiction although I have not looked at it that way before the last 2 months. I was doing extremely lazy keto and decided about a month ago to try the carnivore WOE. There have been difficult days I have wanted to run to the store and buy a bag of M&M's. Problem is one isn't ever enough to fill that hole. This video really resonated with me. Feels like my story although I'm sure you have heard this before. Atm I am taking it a day at a time. And yes i have cream in my coffee and I drink the sugar/carb free drinks. But I am taking a step at a time and perhaps those two will just be a higher flight of steps. Thank you.

The SINGLE most important thing I did (Kelly Hogan did, as well), was getting rid of artificial sweeteners. They can keep your addictions alive. Kelly struggled for 5 years doing "Zero Carb", but allowing diet soda. 3 rough days of giving it up... And her cravings dried up! It takes me about 5 days... See if you can go 1 week without artificial sweeteners. Just 7 days. If that seems IMPOSSIBLE. Ask if you might be addicted! And if you might be, then you MUST be able to give them all up for 7 days. (I mean, people fast that long, right...)

This was excellent and so many things were exactly what I have been trying to tease apart lately. Thank you, one of your best vids for sure! I actually wrote everything down word for word ( took me awhile, but so worth it!) to have where I can see it because it was so well explained. (Hey! I did something for myself and for self-care today with patience and effort as part of moving forward! So cool to already start looking at things from that perspective !) Thanks Dr Cywes! 🙏🏾

Finally, some wisdom and insight on the other half of the equation! I am mostly in the diet bubble, and I know that is not going to be sustainable without making the emotional transistion to a heathful life style. I don't know beans about the "how" of making the transistion, and now, thanks to this video, I have a hint of the direction to go. I certainly hope that you are planning more videos about this topic, because making transistion and changing is the harder part of the equation.

I am lucky to be a patient. Permission. Exactly! I am not perfect, but having just watched this I realize that I have been giving myself permission for the tiniest cheats. I hit an intermediate goal (140 pounds lost) and started giving myself "permission" to have that breaded cutlet, or a couple of my girlfriends onion rings. Sure enough, I'm in a weight stall and my edema is back! I now realize that if I continue this, I will 'permission' every one of those pounds back on. Or not! It stops now! I also just realized that I am making progress too, I am in a tremendously stressful point in my life, and I am staying away from food for emotional management, I tell myself not to make a bad situation worse. I have also begun to visit an all natural nutritionist, who is helping me focus on my overall health, not just my diet. So, Dr Cywes, some of your lessons are filtering through, and I really wasn't aware it it at the time, I am taking positive, self loving steps to protect my progress and health! This is a lifetime process for me, I am learning and there are positive, fundamental changes happening!

Always good to eat to survive not surviving to eat 🙃. I love eating bacon and eggs for breakfast and stay in fat burning mode and not thinking about food. It's really important to not eat when not hungry and it's important to eat foods that sustain you for long periods of time. Lions eat when hungry and save energy when not. I ran a marathon without carb loading and drinking only water. No problems and I had a fast recovery time. I am not addicted to running. I ran the marathon at 52 just to see if I could do it with short notice and not huge training schedules. I have to work a job 😫
