I sold my pontoon boat several years ago it was an 18 foot. I used to beach it the same way and when I got ready to leave, I would put it in reverse just slightly above idle and walk to the rear and the weight transfer would do the trick almost every time. I like your shanty boat set up, as it does make a lot of since to keep it small with a shallow draft to get into the skinny water. At the present I have a 96 year old wooden trawler that's been restored except the engine, an eighty HP ford diesel with 2200 hours. I want to put a new Beta marine engine and gearbox in it before calling it ready. It drafts a little less than 4 foot and you have me second guessing this as an ideal looper boat. Happy trails Brenton and keep them coming.

You unbeach (if that's a word) that way too ;) 4 feet is pushing it in my opinion. At some point, you become at the mercy of the marinas if you can't slip into low draft no man's land

Some people are EXPERTS and love to Pontificate and others just do it and share their life for the Newbies! That is why I love yer channel. Good intell on sand/backing in reverse.

Gunk Holes the only way to go here in SC either on the lakes or the intercostal there thousands of spots that you can hide out in forever. When I sailed with my old friend on his 36 Shannon S/B that drew 7ft we still managed to find some pretty good spots but it would have been so much more fun get out of the weather. Well at least the world is not watching you in real time so you still maintain your privacy and share your adventures with us thanks so much.

Shanty Boat..lol..beautiful craft (I mean i love all boats seriously cool what people have done with very little..amazing actually and where they have gone with them is probably even more amazing) I am sure the Hubbard’s would be loving your boat! Great tradition and I definitely see your point..definitely can be in areas a trawler couldn’t even imagine.. Happy birthday man!

Thanks for sharing info on great spots to drop the anchor. I much prefer to find secluded areas that are quiet with very few or no homes. Wooded natural areas are great as you get to see all the wildlife. I enjoy waking up to the first sounds of birds chirping & singing early just before day light. 🌄 🐦 ⛵ 🤗 🐬

Happy Birthday Brenton, I hope you and Wavey are having a great day! I’m not too sure about the Beagle Barge, as I’m sure it weighs quite a bit, but when I was just off the beach with my stern in deep water, if I walked towards the aft of the boat, it would help pop up the bow for backing off the sand.
@brentonsriversidehermitage3 ай бұрын
That wouldn't hurt. I've also stuck it in gear and got out and pushed, then jumped on! Not advised ;)
