I was actually able to analyze the problem as Dr. Cywes read the numbers. His video lectures are better than medical school classes. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned from him and others on the Internet. All this information is free, yet my cardiologist is clueless about bloodwork and the cause of metabolic diseases.

I bet you also learn that these dr.s change their tune overtime. And they do it sometimes without admitting it but just by saying something like Paul Saladino was right... Sure you can learn a few things, especially what to be looking for, but be always cautious about being an avid follower of one Dr or another. You have to walk in between the threads to figure out what works for you.

It does not necessarily show in his looks, TBH. He looks good and has a nice physique, but it shows signs of metabolic disrepair. His skin tone is darker as well (factoring in the tanning element). Darker skin is an indicator of adrenal insufficiency. It also bears mentioning that one's mood biochemistry impacts one's metabolic circumstances.

Carnivore for 31 months and am at an ideal weight 189 at 6' 1' age 71. Recently started eating an avocado a day and some green beans and asparagus. Also have some berries with full fat yogurt. I was down to 178 lbs and low body fat, and didn't feel good and was getting some anxiety. I started increasing my food intake and now feel much better. As long as you stay away from the junk, grains , and processed sugar snacks, and seed oils, everything will be fine.

This was an eye-opener for me. I am type 2 diabetic, and no matter how low in carbs I went, even carnivore, I would still register high blood sugar. Upping my carbs just a wee bit, triggered my insulin and my blood sugar went down. I am realizing that keto works better for me rather than carnivore.

I don't understand your comment. Keto is high fat, no carbs. Carnivore is all meat, and can be keto or more protein based, depending on how much fat you eat. Too high in protein will raise blood sugar through gluconeogenesis. This will happen if you eat meat that's too lean or eat too much meat in one sitting. NOTHING to do with carbs. I like Dr Cywes, but he's making many assumptions in this video and conflating correlation with causation.

Absolutely perfect. I have been beaten up (not that I care, pain is love), on Chaffee & Berry & other carnivore doctor channels for saying this exact thing for the last several years. This message needs to be heard across the globe !!!! Context matters. Person by person, case by case. No one "f"ING size fits all must be heard. Athletes, weekend warriors, couch potatoes, all the way to the extreme obese should not have the same diet. Then age and race play a role as well as genetic factors.

Not true. The human species does have a diet most appropriate for it. Only specific conditions can exclude certain foods for certain people, but other than that, my statement holds. You do realize that DNA between people is more than 99% similar, right? That means that the enzymes and thus metabolism is more than 99% similar as well
@georgeborb3245
@georgeborb3245 8 ай бұрын
Your statement doesn't include many thousands years of different adaptions on climate and food sources. We are one species but not like a cow or a chimpanzee wich are highly specialized animals. We are opportunists and we try to survive everywhere from the equator to the north pole . This 1% difference is huge when we talk about genetics.

I’m sure there is the one called species specific diet. It’s pretty much mostly a carnivore with some occasional carb bombs like our ancestors did when they found honeybee nests and berry bushes seasonally. The 100% pure animal diet which shouldn’t be meant for long term, is just there to help you get back to where we belong quickly after decades of carb poisoning.

Selladino was not "on to something." Reality finally caught up with him. Basically, he is spouting patently absurd nonsense 24/7 that contradicts long established scientific knowledge and facts. He evidently is incapable of reasoning (see all his fallacious arguments and conclusions, for example "evolutionary correctness"), fails to grasp nuance or context, fails to understand complex systems and processes. In his naive way of black/white thinking all he does is fearmonger and demonize entire food groups, while at the same time failing to grasp basic concepts that were figured out decades ago. The guy's a clown. Clown Selladino (even though he backpedaled in podcasts he still sells his book which is full of falsehoods.)

BS. Here is the solution - pay cash on retainer. Lawyers do this everyday. My patients hold me and my time on retainer. Cost is per minute for 1 minute to an entire week if the choose and their account has funds. Simple. Stop using insurance. Get the insurance company out of your private life. Get the government out of your life. Pay cash and you hold your own medical records. Hollywood stars and pro athletes have been doing this for years. Many businesses executive same. Also keeps team owners and employers out of your personal life.

@@dkcN0va2109 sorry. Just really frustrated and upset how the system works in major countries and how closed minded the doctors and patients. Here in Latin America, I get cash and the patients (who are the boss /customers). Holds their own records. YES, that means they get to read my notes, which is good, full disclosure, the way it should be. I don't own a file cabinet, waste time filling out forms or filling medical claims or waste money on secretaries and medical billing services. All just fluff and BS to the system. If a patient want to pay for one minute or entire day, not a problem. All prepaid, planned and scheduled. Every patient (again the boss) gets the time they want. Home visits (to see if they are honest), plane flights, whatever it takes, they are paying. No insurance company, no employer or for my athletes, no team manager / coach watching. America actors have been doing this for years. Go on "vacation" 😉 to a remote part of the world, fly to a different city for a small procedure, fly back to the island/ resort to complete the vacation but when they return, they are "changed" without paparazzi or public in their private lives. The public goes on thinking the female lost the weight with Jenny Craig or the male got jacked drinking protein shakes jejeje jejeje jejeje

It looks like you've provided some cholesterol and other health-related data before and after following a ketogenic (keto) diet for 7 months. Here's an analysis: Before Keto: Total Cholesterol (TC): 160 LDL Cholesterol (LDL): 104 LDL + VDL: Not provided HDL Cholesterol (HDL): 40 Triglycerides (TG): 225 A1C: 5.7 Weight: 210 lbs After 7 Months on Keto: Total Cholesterol (TC): 491 LDL Cholesterol (LDL): 350 LDL + VDL: 416 HDL Cholesterol (HDL): 75 Triglycerides (TG): 49 A1C: 5.3 Weight: 170 lbs Analysis: Cholesterol Levels: Your total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels have increased significantly. While HDL cholesterol has also increased, it seems that the increase in LDL cholesterol has had a more significant impact on total cholesterol. LDL + VDL: The combined value of LDL and very low-density lipoprotein (VDL) is elevated (416), suggesting an increase in the atherogenic lipoproteins. HDL Cholesterol: Your HDL cholesterol has increased, which is generally considered positive for heart health. Higher levels of HDL are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. Triglycerides: There has been a substantial reduction in triglyceride levels, which is a positive change. Lower triglyceride levels are generally associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. A1C: Your A1C has improved from 5.7 to 5.3, indicating better blood sugar control. This is a positive change and may reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. Weight Loss: Losing 40 lbs is a significant achievement and can have positive impacts on overall health, including cardiovascular health and blood sugar control.

This is exactly where I am at the moment... OMAD, 1 glass of milk per day, LMHR, walking 5 days a week, lifting weights 3 days a week, keto in 2021, carnivore in 2022, body fat of 11%. Based on previous bloodwork (which was very similar to what Doc presented here for his patient's first round), and my blood glucose trending these past weeks, I am definitely insulin-suppressed. My plan is to increase my meals back to 2 per day, but have 2 glasses of milk instead of just 1. So 1 glass of milk in the morning, and another in the evening. I am hoping to also see better muscle growth because my current OMAD diet means the majority of my protein consumption is going over to fuel (glucose) production, rather than muscle protein synthesis. Thank you Doc, as always. Your video could not have come at a better time.

@@asdf1991asdf That is the idea, yes… because the human body can only process so much protein in one sitting, and having multiple meals in one day ensures that the liver is not trying to get into gluconeogenesis due to a lack of body fat.

This example explains the stages one goes through to regain metabolic health. The miraculous recovery from obesity, cancer and a rogue adrenal I experienced is explanatory. I too was insulin suppressed. Cortisol was my culprit. I removed the weight by fasting and low carb keto so I could find the cancer and stayed fasting and keto for treatment and build back from the bladder surgery for the adrenalectomy. Slowly bringing up my carbs in my six hour eating window seems very natural. These days a whole banana is a treat I can definitely live with. lol

After having watched videos of Dr Paul Saladino, Thomas DeLauer, and Lillie Kane in which they all claimed that adding carbohydrates had improved their athletic performance, I had a thought. I personally think that people who are extremely active probably benefit by adding carbohydrates to their system because they are putting an excess amount of stress on their bodies and their bodies cannot properly utilize the slow and steady burning of fat alone. I only think this because this only really seems to happen to high performance athletic types. It might be interesting to see what their adrenaline levels are like. I think that addiction to extreme exercise is something that exists. I think for people like me who are almost sedentary by comparison, there would be no benefit to including carbs. If I should see these kinds of numbers, changes, and outcomes in women in their late 50s, who basically walk (including up and down 2-3 flights stairs a couple of times a day), occasionally sprint, and lift weights twice a week, then I might be more convinced that this would be a good idea for someone like me. I don't know if I'm right, but I think stressing your body out to the extent people like Dr Paul Saladino do, is too much. I think that our bodies then respond in the ways you've discussed. If you are surfing for 1.5 hours a day and your body responds like this, maybe instead of adding carbs so that you can surf for 3 hours a day, you should perhaps only surf for 0.5-1.0 hours a day and try to incorporate some relaxation techniques to balance out the stress. Just living in a "blue zone" like Costa Rica is not magic. It might be better to learn from the Costa Ricans how to spend more time with family and friends, walk (instead of surf), slow down, and take the time to rest, and relax. Maybe instead of just adding carbs to help our bodies cope with the stress overload of frequent, overly high levels of excessive activity, a change in outlook and lifestyle is the lesson that we need to learn.

Yeah, If you look up some research on hunter gathers activity levels. They all walked a good amount, occasionally sprinted during hunts and built things (heavy lifting). They however, had many days of downtime and calmer activity. I don't think extreme exercise is natural or even good for you. I believe a moderately active healthy person could have a few carb heavy meals a week and keep things good in their life.

I eat a ketogenic diet and am happy with omad but once a week I eat twice a day and it works for me. I will have to go through this video later to convert all the numbers as we use a different measurement system here in the UK. I rather wish the world standardised the blood work across all nations. If I needed medical help when visiting the US I wouldn't have a clue what the numbers mean and likewise if a US citizen required help in the UK they wouldn't understand the figures. As a retired health professional I have seen this conflict first hand and the confusion it causes. I don't care which system is used but I do wish it was just one across all nations. When you are trying to take control of your own health it is so helpful to know your numbers in any country.

I’m not worried - those are my only negative factors regarding health concerns - but my doctor is unhappy with those 2 numbers as I have refused statins. I’m hoping that, with the changes I have made to my diet - slightly more carbs (40g) and a bit less fat per day will bring the LDL down a bit. As the total cholesterol hasn’t gone over 300, I really don’t care much about that one.

Let's not forget that the title "When Paul Saladino is right!" assumes that sometimes he's wrong. One of those times is his taking conclusions from a study where people lost significant amounts of weight, and was high carb. This was an observational study, and started in 1934, involving 100 obese people. They were told to follow a white rice only diet and then sent home. So no checks possible to find out how closely they followed the diet. The participation time was very varied, between a couple of months, and one person for 11 years. During the study, 9 participants out of the 100 died. Paul says this was simply because of their metabolic health, but even so, that is pretty much an unheard of mortality rate. Maybe it was because of their white rice diet? There's strong evidence for that: Asians have not been eating white rice in quantity for centuries because it's labour-intensive to produce. After the industrial revolution, manufacturing white rice on a large scale became possible. But then, a new, previously unknown disease epidemic broke out. They called it Kwashiorkor. It was discovered that it was caused by malnutrition, in turn caused by eating a staple of - white rice. What little nutrition in rice gets removed by the white rice manufacturing process. Interestingly, autopsies of those who died of the disease were found, among other things, to have been suffering for fatty liver. Back to the white rice diet study, and the 9% mortality. Did their white rice diet have any influence on that mortality figure? You be the judge. I suspect that the person who did the white rice diet for 11 years, and was still alive after all that time, was probably not following the diet very strictly... Dr Eric Westman likes to remind us that observational studies are only able to provide hypotheses for further study, not conclusions, or establish causation. This is where Paul is wrong: he draws conclusions, and applies them, which cannot be substantiated by an observational study.
