I had a massive PE 13 years ago and my cardiologist tol me to take a baby aspirin / day for the rest of my life. He was also an oncologist and in a private conversation on the way to our cars he also told me to forget about low fat dieting and start looking at low carb. He qualified that statement that he would not be able to advise me that in an official consultation at the time...!!! I thank him to this day as I have been more or less low carb for 13 years and went from over 100kg to 80 kg and and 10x healthier than I ever was!

I would think that also goes for taking a baby aspirin if going on long airplane flights (oh, I finally got to the part where Dr C mentions flying) or if sick in bed for several days. My husband who is paraplegic broke his lower right leg many years ago and was put in a cast - not told to go on a baby aspirin, but though he regularly did and still does upper body workouts with weights as well as being a “Wheeler” he developed a DVT in that leg with PEs and survived but now has to be on warfarin (rat poison) to thin his blood (found out he is anaphylactic with anything with aspirin in it). If you are sick enough you only want to be in bed - don’t be…get up and move around as it’s better for your lungs too.

After taking baby aspirin for a couple of decades I noticed that as I aged I was experiencing significant bruising and bleeding under my skin. When I mentioned this to a friend, he replied that "everybody knows that ones blood thins as we age." I stopped taking baby aspirin and my symptoms decreased markedly. I had breast cancer 2 years ago (2021). I'm 54. My medical oncologist has me on tamoxifin and a baby aspirin a day. I have been keto since Nov. 2019 and ketovore since January. When I saw Ken's video I dropped the baby aspirin to 2 times a week instead. I just don't know who to listen to anymore. My med oncologist sees me via zoom and goes over a checklist, I literally watch her eyes scanning the page as she asks her generic questions. Wish I could find a doc that would give it to me straight. There are times I doubt I even need that tamoxifin. Thanks Dr. Cywes!

Morning Dr. Cywes. I'm a 70 yr. young woman who had a spotnaneous dissection of a basilar artery when I was 43. Did not tear out into the brain only on the interior, formed a clot and I had a pontine stroke- locked in, completely paralyzed. Ended up in the ER where then H was the doctor on duty. Flown to OHSU where they gave me urokinase in my femoral artery, snaked it up to my brain and broke up the clot. Post surgery i was on coumadin for 6 mos. then aspirin for a yr. I no longer take aspirin. I now have tinnitus, big time. If I have pain I don't take anything, just work it out. I wonder if taking aspirin is OK for me? Oh, I graduated college a yr. after the stroke,- hike, swim, bike. I'm a miracle. You are awesome.

Do you have pulsatile tinnitus or ringing tinnitus? I have pulsatile tinnitus. The specialist said to try aspirin, but it had zero effect. I subsequently accidentally discovered that both caffeine (from instant coffee) and potassium both have a positive effect on my pulsatile tinnitus. The caffeine had a small effect, but the potassium citrate has a significant effect; I take a 1/4 teaspoon in 400ml of water twice daily; morning and evening.

Well, the stomach is a strong store of ACID. (HC acid). That an aspirin can upset that "acid balance" just doesn't make sense. It depends upon how much, of course. Most dangerous in that the plaque can rupture and cause a blood clot and lead to a stroke or heart attack. Can you elaborate on this? Also, I have seen studies that say statins can stabilize the dangerous unstable plaques. Your thoughts on this? As always thank you for all your great info!

Do not fear CAC test. It’s low cost, low radiation, extremely fast, and non invasive. Really nothing to lose and everything to gain. Those that poo poo this test usually stems from competing modalities. Other tests are comparably much higher profitability, more invasive, more risks. Moreover if any doctor recommends a diagnostic test over a screening test, run for your life. CAC test is a screening test. It’s better to know and more importantly get a baseline. If there is a problem, you can look into secondary prevention before having an event. What’s better than that.

What the fluff? Is this placard new? Are you applying for it with the 'YT health council' whoever they are or have you applied and been rejected? Curious if the topic is worth an episode since folks are all a twitter about the potential shadow-banning of this sort of low carb health content on YT because it is not in alignment with accepted health science as per the WHO.

I took a statin once in my 30s and learned that if my ldl goes below 150 my nerves start to get damaged. I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy when I took the statin. Anyway... I asked him for a CAC scan and it was only 10. Of course he still wanted me to take the shot. Haven't been back to him.

@@beacomrie343 wow.. I felt pressured about 2 months ago and took Crestor. Had severe diarrhea that lasted 3 weeks after I stopped it. They want me to try another one. Shaking my head…

@@beacomrie343In my mid 20’s my ob/gyn said my bad cholesterol was borderline of needing meds. He told me to take a fish oil tab then come back in 3 months. It had gone down enough. By age 30 it had gone back up so he told me take 2 fish oil and come back. Went back and it was fine. I’m now 47 and it’s hasn’t gone up since then.

Thanks for the video Doc. back in 2021 i had a TIA stroke which caused oclution and a small brain bleed ( hemoridge) . The doctor put me on 3 different drugs one was a statin and olso put me on a 81 mg aspirin. I was ok for about 1 month then while sleeping i got a terrible burning in my right hand and it also swelled up. This went on for about 2 weeks until i called my doctor and said that i was gonna go off the drugs, he advised against that , so i stayed the course and suffered for another week till i finally stopped taking them. i stayed on the aspirin though and am still taking the aspirin although i don't thinki really need them, i find that I am bruising way too easily. I am71 years old now. By the way there were other symptoms too and after stopping the 3 drugs (about 1 week) all the symptoms were gone and have never returned. My question is do you think i should go off the aspirin, i am very healthy otherwise. thanks.

Would you take a baby aspirin if you had a CAC score of 3200?
