Surely, the flight in early December of our Fokker VIIB replica of Australia's iconic pioneering aircraft, the three-engine Southern Cross and first across the Pacific in 1928, was the crowning achievement of another busy and successful year for our world-class aviation museum 100 kms south of Sydney, Australia. What a joy to see her flying again!
This video compiles and relives the restored aircraft's memorable first flights in 21 years out of Shellharbour Airport over the Southern Illawarra and is a tribute to everyone involved in its restoration over the past dozen years, led by Project Manager Jim Thurstan. Both flights by veteran pilots Bruce Simpson and Mark Thurstan were greeted by joyous celebrations and congratulations.
Enjoy and widely share these glorious memories of what determination, hard work and generous donations can still accomplish in today's world.
