I've 'visited' you 37 times, and each time I've loved watching you, Grinch and Fluffy. In the beginning you said that you were inexperienced at growing fruit and vegetables, and not sure if anything will grow. Well, you have grown some of the most gorgeous veggies. Well done to you all. You are certainly proving that you have 'green fingers' To think that you have turned your plot from wasteland to wonderland whilst working and tending your beautiful garden at home. Thank you for taking us with you on your gardening adventures xx

Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment! It was so special to read after a long day at work! It means so much to me! It is definitely our first time growing veg and the allotment has been so kind to us! The rain has also been a great help too I think. We have been so lucky for our first summer. We are completely hooked on growing veg and fruit now! It is such a thrill, growing it, picking it and eating eat! Everyone support and friendship has also made the journey even more special. We are so grateful. Much love 😘💕🌸

I cannot believe the amount of work you have done this year! Your veggies look so green and healthy. My goodness! You should all be so proud! My red currants were also very sour. First time planting them in the summer of 2022 and first harvest this summer. I ended up tossing them in the pot with my blackcurrants and turned them all into 11 jars of blackcurrant jam. Thank you for your video. It’s always such a delight to watch you XO 🍃

Thank you so much! It was so weird those cucumbers, when they first started to grow, they were not attached, they fused at a later stage, I wonder if it was due to the rain! We ate them and they were delicious! So crunchy and not bitter at all! So far we have eaten everything that has grown on the allotment! We just love it! My family is visiting from France next week and I cannot wait to give them some of our veg! They thought I was mad when I took on the allotment so I cannot wait to show them what a great place it is! The plants do look very happy with the bananas, at the allotment and in the garden. It doesn’t smell bad either! Cucumbers need to be picked now. As soon as skin gets a smoother, or about 6 inches for that variety. If they gat to big they get bitter and the seeds get too big. You’ve done such an amazing lot of work. 👏👏👏

Thank you so much for the info! I will be more careful next year! For some silly reason, I expected them to be as long as the ones in the shops and I was waiting for them to get longer!… Luckily, the ones we ate so far haven’t been bitter and the seeds were not too big either. In fact, I don’t think we have ever eaten cucumbers as crunchy and lovely as the ones we grew, they were just gorgeous! We were lucky! 😄😘💕🌸

Red currant is the right colour. It is perfectly ripe. Yes it is normal to be somewhat sour - you are just not used to it. I like it the way it is. Also it is great for cooking. And by the way it makes best natural fruit jelly because of its pectins.

After the first taste, I did think they were good! I am really hoping that next year we will get enough of them to try to make a jelly with them. I do think me cutting them back so drastically made them struggle this year. The few we did get just looked so beautiful. 😄🌸💕

Your garden looks absolutely gorgeous. Much better than mine is doing. I’ve had raccoons visiting in the night. And we have had soooo much rain this year. But things are still growing. You can harvest your cucumbers any time you want, from small for pickles, medium for fresh earring. I find when they get big, the skin gets tough and so many seeds. Enjoy your garden, I’ve enjoyed watching you clear, plant and now harvest. xox 🇨🇦 Your cucumber is something you will see quite often when growing a garden. Happens to other vegetables as well. You only see the perfect vegetables in the stores. How are your lavender doing?

Hi! Thank you so much! We are very lucky, the allotment is spoiling us! It must be beginners’ luck!!! 😄 I am so sorry with the raccoons in your garden, I hope it will recover ok. They must be like squirrels, they look really cute but they are very destructive in a garden, except , they are a lot bigger than squirrels! 😱 I really feel for you… I noticed today that the deer has started to nibble all the bark off my young apricot tree so I will have to put chicken wire around this one too! The lavender is doing really well , I will have to show it in the next video. It will take time for them to get bigger but they are looking very healthy, especially the white one. Wishing you a lovely weekend! 😄👍😘💕🌸

Thank you so much! It was really strange with the currants, one bush produced some quite a while ago then the other 2 bushes produced some in the last couple of weeks. I do think it is because I cut them back so drastically in the winter. They took time to recover. We might also have missed the currants for a while as they were well hidden! Yesterday, I picked more beautiful strawberries! I really didn’t expect more! It was such a lovely surprise! Wishing you a lovely weekend! 😘💕

So funny, we had jacket potatoes with cheesy beans and sausages yesterday! It was the perfect meal for a rainy day! We came back wet from the allotment and it warmed us up! We didn’t wash the potatoes, we placed them in cardboard boxes that the supermarkets use for storing fruits, in the garage and so far they are keeping very well. It is cool, dry and dark in our garage, we are very lucky. 😄💕🌸

Your plot is amazing! You've done so much work, and now reap the benefits 💚 Keep those cucumbers picked and they'll continue to give more fruit. When you leave cukes on the vine they stop setting fruit, thinking they've done their job of reproducing. Pick them young and tender 😋

😂😂 if looks could kill. Borage is gorgeous and will spread like wildfire if it goes to seed but the bees love them. Like little red riding hood with her basket. Jam with the currants perhaps is the only way 😂. Is the squash next to the cucumbers not a romanscoe corguette? Kalettes you can eat the very top and they will get small sprout like heads like brussel sprouts. But all in all everything looks absolutely stunning and you have done an awesome job. Happy gardening 👩‍🌾, Ali ☁️🇨🇦

I didn’t realised borage spread, I will have to make sure I take of the dead flowers off, I have enough weeds to keep under control on the allotment! You are absolutely right! My basket is like the one of the Little Red Riding Hood! It is probably why I liked it so much unconsciously! It looks like I need to pick more kalettes’ leaves! They do taste nice, I cooked them in a stir fry. The squashes next to the cucumber is a Long Boat squash on the right and a Winter squash on the left. I still cannot believe how big they are getting! The big ones come in a pack of 16 for £21.99 and they are called Swanlake heavy duty spring metal clamps, they are very good for securing the whole frame and net to the bed so nothing go flying on a very windy day ( we get a lot of wind at the allotment!!!). I wouldn't pick potato berries - they are the most poisonous part of the whole plant. And never heard of anyone picking them off - you can get an amazing harvest no matter of berries. The harvest most will depend on manure and watering rather than berries.
@plotno.9
@plotno.9 Жыл бұрын
Hi! Grinch saw a video on KZbin of a guy saying to remove the berries , not to eat them. We wouldn’t eat them, don’t worry, but thank you for letting us know they are poisonous. I agree with you, we never removed them on the blue potatoes and they were all an amazing size. I have to admit, only Grinch removed them, I have left them alone. We do water a lot though! Thank you again for all your great advice! I always appreciate it! 😄👍😘💕🌸
@astraaj435
@astraaj435 Жыл бұрын
@@plotno.9 I didn't imagine you to try eating potato berries - that craziness didn't cross my mind. But them being that poisonous is the thing why you should be avoiding to touch them at all - you never know how it can/can't get through your skin. I'd use proper new rubber gloves 🧤 if ever trying to touch the berries. On first attempt to invent potatoes from America to Europe - why did that fail? Because people didn't know what is edible part of the new plant, they tried berries and many died. It took a couple more decades/centuries to get them invented in Europe. (I'm not that expert of timing but I know this fact of history). As the stem and leaves both tomatoes and potatoes - it contains some juices that are not good to consume but they are not that level of poison so both can be used ar a "plant tea" for deterring some pests.
