Totally agree on the context provided by Dr. Cywes. Historically, humans would not have had access to vast amounts of readily available glucose and fructose. That’s something that has changed rapidly over the last few centuries.

I know my high protein shows on my labs when we do a review. I do know that eating too much protein our bodies convert the excess into sugar and store it in our fat cells. I am learning Doc! Are you asking about Malabsorption in the gut based on eating plants thinking you will get nutrients from them if you eat them? The human body can barely absorb 20% of the nutrients from plants. We lost our ability to metabolize plants when our appendix became vestigal. Meat has ALL the nutrients a human body needs and it is metabolized solely in the stomach. After all an egg can grow a whole chicken.

Doctor Cywes,as a T2 Diabetic, what I want to know is the following, about Keto/Carnivore. Gluconeogenesis is the liver's manufacture of glucose from substrates other than carbs-specifically proteins and the glycerol in fats, according to sources on the Web. So which substrate has the highest glycemic load in gluconeogenesis and which of these substrates should form 'the Lion's share' or highest amount/percentage for consumption at meals? If you can give me a definitive, confident answer to this question, that would make you unique, as I have posed this question to other content providers-always drawing a blank.The reason for me asking you this question, is because when I do eat a meal that is high on the protein side, e.g. steak and eggs, my eyesight seems to get blurry an hour or two after I consume it. Greetings from the UK.
@theeventhorizon-valebridge95122 ай бұрын
**** I AM NOT A DOCTOR*** I just research about the metabolism as it is so important and also fascinating**** I would suggest that the liver will only manufacture glucose (via gluconeogenesis) where/when actually required/demanded by the body, so worrying about which non carbohydrate substrate is best to eat to reduce/increase it is pointless. Eating high or low protein meals in sequences is also not logical. Eating a nutrient balanced, no carb meal is best, with say half meat (from grass fed animals) and half mixed fresh vegetables (of the non starchy type!). Then some K2 rich cheese for afters (gouda/brie etc). Above all, start daily fasting with time restricted feeding, either 18/6 where you eat twice within a 6 hour window, say at 1pm and 6 pm and fast for the other 18 hrs, or better still OMAD fasting, where you eat only Once Meal A Day (OMAD). I would also recommend variations of 2 day, 3 day, 5 day and 7 day full water only fasting in order to kick start type 2 diabetes reversal, (bringing insulin right down and making you sensitive to it again) and also as an on going monthly addition to the usual daily time restricted feeding. Fasting has HUGE health benefits to the body that virtually nothing else can induce. Depending on how far into being fully insulin resistant your are (described as type 2 diabetes when reaching a certain high level of insulin resistance) makes a difference to being able to reverse it. If your pancreas is totally buggered and unable to recover enough to produce the future tiny amounts of insulin required after permanently changing your diet to no carb (or ultra low carb) then you may remain diabetic for life; although with the changed diet it will be far more easily manageable. ***I REPEAT, I AM NOT A DOCTOR OR QUALIFIED IN MEDICAL ISSUES*** This is just for you to explore the possibilities of yourself, as I have done.

If you're getting fat from animal sources, you're pretty much going to be getting protein along with it. They occur together in nature. (With perhaps marrow and brain being lower in protein vs fat. But there's not a large amount of marrow and brain compared to muscle in the bodies of mammals and fish.) So, prioritizing fat is going to mean also getting protein. I would think that times of eating fat only would have been not that often because in this case, we would be talking about isolated dairy fat, blubber (whales), marrow, or brain. Perhaps societies that had regular access to whale blubber ate fat often without significant amounts of accompanying protein.

Hi Rob, your comments on salt are a problem. Remember 'no salt' KCl in South Africa in the 70's. It tastes metallic awful. If you look at potato chips at least in Australia they now contain KCl 30% NaCl 70 % Seawater and salt pans have Mg K Ca and Na salts. Each have different effects on vasculature and altogether are protective. You should do a talk on the left side of the periodic table lithium sodium potassium calcium magnesium An interesting article in New Scientist 8 June 2024 page 32 is a simple explanation of K Cl which 80% of American s lack in their diet. I think prof Weiland Gevers our fantast 9:36 ic biochemistry teacher may take you to task on your comment. I certainly do not agree that too much NaCl is good for blood pressure and although hypertension is extremely poorly diagnosed some people who are genetically hypertensive will not do well on too much NaCl. Agree with you on the fat and salt, but have to disagree with sugar. You said yourself... why do we like sugar??? Cause it tastes good. Why do you think that is? Hmmm. Did we evolve to enjoy the taste of sugar because it's poisonous to us? That wouldn't make much sense. How about it's as essential as fat and salt and we crave it because we need it.
