Voice-over while doing carving and routing is the best improvement since the last build log. Much more entertaining and does not make you want to skip over the process.

If no work is being done on the guitar when you take a break, stop the clock, that is totally acceptable. Shouldn't penalize yourself on time when you eat. Watched the 6 hour build already, love both of them. If i wasn't across the pond from you I would take your classes.

@donniegarnett37627 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate watching how you carve the top like this. After watching you do it I decided to give it a shot on my bass guitar that I'm building and found it to be the most fun part of the building process so far. I feel like it's where the guitar really starts to get it's unique character, aside from wood selection of course.

Stunning, didn't see your joy till you started planing it.....absolutely stunning.if you don't mind answering, how much does a plank like that cost? Oh and BTW, I was looking at costs for leveling beams and notched straight edges.......I always price compare before I do anything.......either your taking a bath on those two things or Stew Mac is absolutely on crack with what they are asking for them......I have already bought multiple tools from you, but you just gained about 100 American dollars more from me......cheers!
@Erowens987 жыл бұрын
Stewmac is on crack. Their tools are more expensive and often times not as good. A plank like this is hard to come by, but if you find one it will be several hundred. It depends of who is selling though, there is no set price on wood like this. Or at least that has been my experience.
@keithwallis97997 жыл бұрын
Coming along well Ben, assumng you're not going for True Temperament frets and a composite fretboard inlay... So, who else has googled 'pommele sapele' to see where/if they could get some of this wood?

Great series. You mention safety tips a few times, here is one... Never wear rings while using any tool that might take half your finger off.

The figuring on that wood is absolutely beautiful. I think I would want to stain it with tea and lacquer it. To do much more or put on a deeper stain would hide its good looks to much. At least it seems that way to me at this stage. I could well be wrong though.

Hello Ben, I am planning on building a 7 string explorer with a solid wenge body (sourcing the wood is proving difficult) I know that the body will be pretty heavy as it's wenge and an explorer and as it does not have a top, making it lighter via chambering is either impossible or at the very least incredibly difficult. Would reducing the thickness of the body be a good idea both tonally and structurally bearing in mind neck dive? Thanks, love the channel!

Also, wood dust sticks to your eyes, which is not good for them. Closed goggles really are a good idea when doing dusty things.

I have been loving this series so far! I'm a few years too late but I gotta ask! Why did you wait till after shaping the top face, to carve the back cavities?
@CrimsonCustomGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Hey.. I feel that either way I have something unstable to work with so I would rather get the top carved while the back is pretty flat and the guitar isn't moving around on me. B
@palendcosta12753 жыл бұрын
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars so happy to see a reply!😀 that sounds like a preferred workflow! I just wondered whether it would be easier to route all the cavities except for the neck slot with both faces still flat? Or is there something I'm missing that would make that a bad decision?

Allen Abel - Cheers, I'll look them up. As with most things i guess, you get what you pay for. I like the idea of having holes in them so you can see what you're doing. Far too easy to burn the wood with a flap disk.

If you listen carefully, the CNCs sometimes sounds like music. Anyways, I think it would be awesome if you managed to play of the voice over as if it was your inner voice. That is you speak out the words that you were thinking at the time of the recording. It's probably hard to do, but I think it could have some real comedy value.
